Welcome Nick to your family and Simone. I had head banger but he doesnt have DS and he quit it after he could talk so maybe it has alot to do with frustration and not being able to express anger. I know Chase couldnt talk til late and it was so frustrating to him but he reacted by throwing himself to the floor and screaming. (He is my child with DS)
Well, it is already 57 degrees outside today and I am LOVING it! Cathy, I hope the warm weather made it far enough north for you to get a taste of it. The bad news is it is suspose to be back to cold again tomorrow but at least now I know it is soon to be spring and I am thrilled to death!!! I cant wait to dig my hands into that dirt and garden my heart out.
The boys even went for a bike ride today to the park and loved every minute of it.
Okay, hugs to all and missing you guys,
Robin

Nick~I'm sorry I dont have any advice on the head banging either. Luckily that's something Patrick doesn't do. I can't believe your doctor said that to you! It amazes me that there are still people in this day and age who think those things~especially people in the medical field. I'm glad you are in a different place now and hopefully with more enlightened people.

Susan~I used to slam my door shut when I was mad too! My brothers still tease me about it.

Well, tomorrow I'm going to start babysitting for a couple of boys 2 to 3 times a week. One of the boys is 10 months old and just starting to really move around. I hope Patrick isn't too rough on him. He thinks that babies should stay in one place~so wish me luck!

On the potty training front~I was so excited this morning because during breakfast Patrick got up from the table and walked into the bathroom. I thought this is it! So we took off his PJ's, pulled down his pull ups and he stood there and 2 seconds later signed all done.He thinks if he stands or sits on the potty that that is all there is to it. I
even have him watch his brothers go (#1 only) so that he can see what's supposed to happen but he just doesn't seem to get it. Any words of wisdom from some of you who have been through it? I'm getting desperate.

Have a great day everyone!

Mary L.

Alice,
I can not believe some of these doctors. If I had my way that day I would of gave him a piece of my mind, but he was so upset that we messed up his golf game. That as soon as our Angel was born he left in a hurry. My wife did not get the test either. You know I just think that God gave up a blessing. Although, that blessing sometimes has HORNS.

Matthew did the heading banging at around 3 or 4,usually as part of a tantrum. He would hit his head on the floor, pretty hard. That phase only lasted a few weeks. I think he was mimicing the Calliou character on PBS. He discovered it hurt and stopped.

Nick,
Welcome here!
I think most doctors think the way your doctor does.
They all push us for tests realy hard.
I even had to change one, but when Luke was born my new doctor told me that he feels very sorry that he did not perform amnio. He did not tell if he did not like my reaction (I cried and was very upset with the news about DS) and if I had new before I would not be shocked, or because I could abort baby.
Any way, Luke is a blessing to us and we love him very much as all normal parents love their kids.

Thank you Susan, I have been getting some pretty good advice on the matter. Simone had a doctors appointment last week and she needs tubes in her ears. We have been blessed with this little angel. Although she slams her little noggin in to hard surfaces. She is still our little angel. Maybe, if she gets real good at it we can get her into the WWF. :} Just kidding. We were shocked to find out that she has DS. The nice Dr. told my wife and I just as she was born, really good bedside manners. He said "Next, you should abort a kid like this because the are hard to take care of." That was in New Bern, NC, we now live in Tucson, Arizona. Love the Desert.

NICK: I wish I had advice for you......my daughter is 12, and has never been a head banger, but certainly knows how to slam her bedroom door when she gets frustrated! I just wanted to say WELCOME TO UNO MAS!!!! Please stay here with us, and let us get to know your family. You might want to post your question as a new thread on the Bulletin Board. Sometimes, there is more activity there.

NICK...I could not get to your email so here goes. I had 2 that liked to bang their heads. One(not DS) stopped the first time she hit something hard. And then there is John-John(DS). The way I got him to stop was... I would grab a tupperware cup(always around the house with 3 kids, doesn't matter the color LOL)Fill it 1/4 of the way with water and throw that water right on him. Yes he cried, NO I did not console him, no I did not change his shirt afterwards and YES!!! it worked. DO NOT ignore it. I have a friend w/ a special needs kid and it went on for years. People said ignore it. She agreed with me to stop it now. It got to the point John-John saw me go for that cup and stopped. I tried everything before that ..said no, yelled no, spanked him, stopped him, nothing worked until the water. There is hope, it does work.

My wife and I have been blessed with the most precious angel, "Simone." She came into to our lives almost two years ago, and what a shocker it was to find out that she has Down Syndrome. Other than that she is very healthy, No heart, intestinal, or other problems that is common in DS children. So, my question is... When our little crumbsnatcher gets mad she slams her head on the floor, wall, table or anything else her little noggen can hit. One, How do we prevent or stop this behavior and Two, is this normal in DS children? If you could email me with some help...
Signed,
Frustrated.

Welcome to Gloria and all the other newer folks I have not "met" yet.
We've been busy trying to recover from our first "signed" IEP. After working on this for over a year, I'm still not happy with it...but it's done.
I've been depressed all week over it, but I'm trying to get on with things and get over it. I think I'll give them the 4 months they have left of school, then tell them to stick it in their ears! UGH!
I hope everyone is doing well. Maggie's growing like crazy and getting into everything that isn't nailed down! I remember someone telling us that 3 is worse than 2...thanks for the warning! I can't turn my back on her or she's destroying something.
My husband finally understands why I never get anything done...he's been watching her in the evenings while I tutor. LOL I just say "Welcome to my world!"
It's been a long winter here. More snow expected tonight. I usually enjoy snow, but I'm done woooshing this year. I want some spring!
I better hit the bed.
Take care. One day, I'll make it back to chat. Just don't know when.

Robin and Laurasnowbird:
I really appreciate your replies. We will consult with Nicholas's pediatrician regarding the soft collar and will try that soon. Yes, I have heard of Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson. In fact, I was fortunate enough to attend an assessment done by one of her employess, Renee, in Houston just this week with one of my other children. It was informative regarding oral motor control. We did not really talk about self-stimulation, but I did get some ideas that I can try with Nicholas. In the past, we have used the chewy tube, the electric toothbrush, crunchy food items, chewy food items, etc. We have also massaged his temporomandibular joint to provide input. We work to blow bubbles and horns. He is learning to drink from a straw. He chews well, but does not talk at all. I can use the Z-vibe, which is something that I haven't done. Laurasnowbird, did any other particular items help much in the oral motor area for your child?
Thank you for your prompt reply, as I am seeing Nicholas this Friday.

THROWING!!!! well i want to say thank you for each of you who took the time to share your advice! i tried picking her up and getting her to pick the item back up and put it where it was originally, but that became a game! so that idea was out. i think i will try the ignoring idea and see where that takes us! lol i tell you what-picking her up to get that toy each time WORE me out FAST so i knew that wouldnt work! she has 2 half siblings-mason 9 and mallory 5 who are here every other weekend, but she does go to moms day out 2 days a week which i knew she needed. she loves being around other children-probably because the bigger the audience, the better! she is quite a little performer! i took her to the dr yesterday and she has a virus and the sore throat is part of it they said. its funny that with her you never know when shes sick-she never quits smiling, which brightens everyone around her! i have decided it can be a good and bad thing that she doesnt get real whiny when sick! but back to the throwing, i have enjoyed getting diff ideas, her therapists have told me it might go away with time. but i fear it will just get worse! god knows i dont want her to be an unruly child when i take her places! we had our first hearing eval yesterday and i was so nervous about it! i thought surely she must have a hearing loss and just cant hear me saying "no throw" and "no". but after the evalustion i just decided she is strong willed and suffers from selective hearing-WOW! she must get that from her daddy! LOL LOL thanks again! i love this site!

VANESSA: I feel for the mother of your little client, his habits must be tough for her. I'm with Robin on this one, that the soft collar may not be a bad idea to stop him from jerking his neck. I winced at the thought of that kind of trauma to the neck of a child who is hypotonic. As far as what he is doing with his jaw, it sounds to me like perhaps he is craving input to the temporomandibular joint. Have you ever heard of Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson? She has excellent techniques for working with kids with oral-motor difficulties, and most kids with DS have them in some form or another due to the hypotonia. Her website is www.talktools.com. It is common for kids who are not chewing or talking a lot to look for that kind of stimulation that they would otherwise get from speech and eating. Many kids with DS grind their teeth for that reason. When Ethan was about 8 months old, he was putting his two hands together (fisted) and bopping himself repeatedly in the chin. We were really concerned about it, until I went to one of Sara R-J's trainings and heard her discuss the many ways that kids come up with to mimic that stimulation. After we began a treatment plan designed to correct Ethan's low oral-motor tone, the behavior disappeared. Just a thought.

Good morning everyone! I am finally back for good. My Apple computer kept breaking down so we got a new computer. We have Windows now because Bernie got promoted to commander and they use Windows at work~so now he can do some work stuff at home.

I hope everyone is doing well. I've missed you all. I hope everyone who went had a great time in Vegas. I was thinking of you over the weekend and must admit I was feeling a bit jealous. I guess I will just have to look forward to the summer get together. Still figuring out which one will work the best for us.

Patrick is doing well. He had another set of tubes put in and had a hearing test while he was under the anethesia. He would never respond to the regular hearting test~the little room freaked him out and he would just cling to me and cry. Anyway, the test came back as normal. He is really babbling a lot now and says a few more words. We are working on potty training which is a nightmare. He loves to sit on the potty but after 2 seconds says he is all done and of course he didn't do anything. I will just have to be patient!

I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't had a chance to catch up on posts but I will try to do so today. Have a great day everyone!

Hi! This is my first time in this website. It's very lighthearted and refreshing to feel joy coming from other people with children with DS. My son is 22 months and is Down Syndrome. I have a 4 year old daughter, Vanessa who loves her brother more than anything. I've read many of the entries and no longer feel like I'm speaking a foreign language when dealing with the many facets of DS. I will definetely visit this website again. Talk to you all later.

Hi Jenn-My daughter is 10 and has ds. We have had this question off and on over the past 10 years. My response has always been something like.."well, Kaylee has down syndrome..and so that makes it harder for her to talk/ride a bike/jump rope/read a book. BUT you can help her by just letting her play with you (most kids love to help!) and including her in your games..." Then I go on to explain the things she does like to do (play dress up/house/computer/movies..) so they can see how much she is LIKE them..Also-I have also moved into a new neighborhood and went around introducing myself, as well as my kids to the parents and explaining Kaylee to them- (ground rules, such as send her home if she's knocking on your door and asking to come in..she has to check with me first if she's invited in..etc..) I've noticed that adults really take their clues from me..and how I communicate with Kaylee and what behavior I expect from her..etc
hope this helps..

I was looking for some feedback. My son(Matthew) is 6 years old and has a 4 year old sister and 3 year old brother. We recently moved to a very social neighborhood in FL that is full of children. Matthew is non verbal and is not very social with children(ignores them)but loves adults. When I'm outside with him and a child asks me why he doesn't talk or acts differently what do I say? I don't like to say he's different because I think that might scare them. These are 4-6 years old kids. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi everyone, I wish I had more time to post on this wonderful site, but for now my 3 jobs is taking most of it. With my wife theresa staying home with anthony for minimum 3 years, and my core job is a teacher, that leaves me working my butt off. The way I look at it whatever is best for anthony.
Anthony went for his 6months check-up(EIP)last week and did really well. They told us he is at a 7 month communication, verbal, and social level, and about a 5 month physical level. Theresa blames me for his talkative personality since I never shut up.lol
Hopefully in a month or so time will become available and I could keep up with the board.

Vegas was fun! Just returned last night but haven't been able to post as the three kids and my dh needed some TLC..Sam still has RSV, Kaylee's bronchial pnuemonia is better (though she did get a serious case of diahreah (sp?) while I was gone and Scott had to deal with all that).

It was great to meet everyone in Vegas..It was so nice to finally sit and talk to people I've been "chatting" and emailing for the past 5 1/2 years..I have no idea what they thought of me--I was a bit on the tired side due to having sick kids the whole week before I left and then dealing with my first cycle since Sam was born--I was totally wiped. A lot of them were up till 2 or 3 a.m. trying to win some $$$---but the funny thing was that EMILY (Jackie's daughter)was the only one to win BIG and she won $360 (I think it was $360-could have been $340--Jackie help me out here..) YEah Emily!!!

Anyways--everyone was great-and it was nice to sit and talk and exchange stories, pictures and thoughts about the future. I was so impressed with Emily, Jackie's daughter..her personality is so great..I just enjoyed being with her.

Tricia-thanks for letting me bunk with you..hope you got checked out and home okay..how were Buzz and Woody received? Did you win big after I left???

Susan..glad you found the $ and the card (that's a whole nuther story)Thanks for spending time talking about Emily and school and giving me pointer..could've spent hours really..but then I'm a big talker.. ;)Kim - susan's sis-it was great meeting you-I hope you enjoy your college days..and that all things smooth out regarding all the stuff we were talking about.. hugs..

Annie-SO great to meet you after all these years..Sonny sure has a great mom and some great aunties..wish we'd have had more time..

Jackie-sorry I couldn't find you at the Venetian to say good bye..the good news is that I did run into Emily and Tricia on my way back and got to hug them! Your taffy will be the end of me..actually eating some right now as I type! You were so helpful,- your stories, your humor and your beautiful daughter..!

Emily-I sure enjoyed that Jimmy Buffet music at Margaritaville with you..and so suprised to find out that you're so into 80's music-you and Scott (my dh) have a lot in common!
Steff and Jeff- I was sitting at the wrong end of the table to even converse with you at lunch and then we couldn't connect after that! Waaaaa..I just wanted to have some time :) the picture of Liv and Kyle were adorable (oh yeah--and that one of STEFF!) we're hoping to head down to Cal this summer for vacation..can we hook up then?

Michelle and Lenore-it was great to meet you. Michelle-you've done so much for us parents-you're time and effort- not to mention your heart, is really what brought us all together..thanks. Lenore (Michelle tell her I said..)I want to see pics of your house...it sounds great! What a great sis to support all that Michelle has done!

gotta hit the hay..hugs to all..

Hi everyone. It has been so long since I have been online and it's been enjoyable reading all the posts. It's good to see everyone again. I wish I would have known about the Vegas trip. I surely would have gone since Vegas is fairly close to me. Guess that's my fault for not getting online much.
Jenn I wanted to tell you that I bought my Matt one of those new bigwheels. He is 13 and still fits in it (I think). This past summer was the first summer I was able to enjoy my sun riding bikes with the neighborhood kids. I sat on my sofa watching out the window crying...tears of joy of course. I was worried about the kids making fun of him but they loved it and wanted to know where he got it. They had him going over the jumps and everything. Matt was in his height of glory. Anyway, I bought it at Toys R Us for $79. I am worried that he may not be able to ride it next summer and I will find myself in the same boat again but it truly was a great summer for both of us.
Take care everyone and I'll try to keep in touch better.

Hi everyone....
Just wanted to pop in and say hi.
Vanessa, I wish I could help but I am at a loss as to what to suggest, although it sure sounds like a autistic self stim thing. I also like the idea of the soft collar to stop the behavior before it gets worse.
Chase is still doing great :=D He went to taco bell yesterday and ordered his OWN food at the counter, paid for it himself and got his own pop, then even went back up to get a refill, ALONE!!!!!! However he came home and was a total turd, messing with his brother, LOL, so never fear, the stinker boy is still inside there:-D
I leave tomorrow for a mental health board conference and wont be back til late wednesday, I am dreading the drive as I dont know the way to Lansing, but I am srue I can figure it out. I start PT for my back as soon as I get back, I am one pitiful mess these days, it sure is a pain getting old!
I hope the Las Vegas trip was fun for all.
Okay I need to do something productive like get stuff ready for the trip, I am leaving right from work and I need to get the kids clothes out and organized, and back packs reay for a few days, (did I mention Dave is truely color blind so he sure cant be left to dress my babies:-)
hugs, Robin

I need help. I am an occupational therapist working with a 2 year old boy with Down Syndrome. He also has autistic like symptoms. His mother and I are concerned that he is violently jerking his neck and clunking his jaws together as a means of self-stimulation. We have tried sensory integration techniques and he is fine while they are occurring, but reverts to self-stimulation as soon as they are finished. Has any parent had this same difficulty and are there any suggestions? We have thought about putting a soft neck collar on temporarily to break him of the habit, but aren't sure if this would help. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Suzi, that would be great! This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Also, wasn't it Jackie who did the Someone has to serve the Turkey story. I know I have it saved because I loved it so much. I know many people have put their storys on the site also. Once people offer their stories, I can work with them on any changes they want to make. I think it will be fun to do. I had such a great time getting all the Christmas cards and seeing all those cute faces out there.
Thanks to everyone who wants to participate.
Just email me and I will get you my address/phone number etc.

Okay, I may be premature in asking about this but here goes. Everyone knows I just moved and so I don't have a lot of friends, etc right now. I had mentioned before an idea I had and I thought now might be the time to work on it. so here goes:
I want to know how many people would be interested in writing their birth/life stories about DS and send them to me along with their favorite family pictures and or pictures of their kids. I have always wanted to do a book with family stories and real life pictures of kids with DS and their families. If we have enough interest I would gladly send my address to those wanting to participate. Then I would put it all together and we would have the first unomas21 story book. It could even be available to new parents, etc. Anyone up for it?

Jenn,
Our local tractor store sells a large tricycle with blow up tires so you can use it in all terrain. What can I say, we live in the sticks! But, it might help. Can you check on line with Kabota, John Deere, or others?
You might check Quality Farm and Fleet or Southern States too.
Good luck!

I read about the PA Special Olympics this past week in the paper. Loretta Clairborn was at our Summer games in MI and I was able to talk to her for awhile. She is a very neat lady. I would have loved to go see her ice skate. Unfortunately, Mia is in school and my husband has been working more than usual (new job, trying to get everything done) and all that day to day chaos. I have been wanting to call SO but so far I just have not had the time. I can't wait to get involved.

I have a six year old son and am trying to find an outdoor ride on or trike/bike for him. Does anyone have any that they can reccommend? He is about 4 feet tall and 60 lbs. The ride on type are way too small and the trikes are borderline. I think is too heavy to balance on 10 or 12 inch bike with training wheels. Has anyone tried out the new big wheels? I am really looking for a 3 wheeled bike or trike with larger back wheels. Have not been able to locate anything for a reasonable price(under $150). Any suggestions.

Hi everyone. Hope all is well. Things have been crazy hectic around here the last week or so. I've had sick kids and even worse a sick husband to deal with!!! Everybody but Alison and I are doing much better. Alison and I still have ear and sinus infections and are on our 2nd round of antibiotics with all the lovely side effects hitting both of us full force. Can you say yeast infections all around!!! Had Alison back to the ped for the third time today with this thing and they ended up testing her for pertussis (whooping cough - which I really doubt she has) and RSV. Say a prayer both come back negative!!!
ROBIN: What awesome news about Chase!!! I'm glad to hear he is doing so well and that you are enjoying your guy so much. Buffalo is supposed to hit 40 degrees too this weekend. Unbelievable the way the temps are bouncing all over the place lately - it was 6 below zero Monday morning ( boy was I glad the kids were off - didn't have to go freeze my a## off at the busstop!!!) and then this 40 degree prediction!! I just want some of the mammoth snowbanks to melt down so I can get out of the driveway without holding my breath waiting for impact since you can't see a blasted thing over the 6 foot piles!
LAURA: Glad to hear that your Dad is doing better. I'll continue to keep you guys in my prayers. And happy anniversary!!! Too bad you have to deal with the IFSP the same day, but who knows maybe it will turn out to be a great day in all regards!
STEFF: LOL about having to read those Valentines over and over.... and over.... and over....!!! I was SO happy that Sarah is able to read them all byherself this year cuz man she has driven me crazy the last two years! I think I had every Disney Princess, Barbie, Spiderman, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh card burnt into my memory!!!
Hope all of you who are heading out to Las Vegas have an AWESOME time!!! Take lots of pics and post em on the Island so those of us who can't make it can drool with envy!!! LOL I know I'm green with envy ( or is that blue with cold?) but I guess the new furnace was a little more important than Las Vegas (actually, I'll tell ya the truth.... I would much rather have let the family live in a deep freeze to be able to go but others convinced me that would be just a little too selfish!!!)

CHERI: It's great to hear from you again! Jackson's aide will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.
~
I'm packed, house is ALMOST clean, clothes are laid out (actually hung on hangers in sets and labeled for what day to wear them!!! Is that obsessive or what?) for the kids while I'm gone, and it's time for bed. I think I'm too excited to go to sleep though. Terry was sick with a nasty stomach virus on Sat and Sunday. We went overboard cleaning everything.....doorknobs, faucet handles, etc...in an effort to keep the whole family from getting that bug. But...sigh; tonight Jordan got it. Poor little guy was miserable. I'm praying that Emily can escape because she has such a hard time when she is sick.( the rest of us might vomit twice and feel lousy for 24 hours, but poor Emily does it every 15 minutes for hours!!!) I must admit that I'm praying also that I don't get it...yikes, that would be a miserable way to start this trip!
~
Maybe we can find a cybercafe or maybe the hotel will have a business center and we can post from Vegas. Otherwise, you'll get plenty of details on Sunday.
Susan

Robin, I'm THRILLED more than I can say that Chase is doing so well these days. That is just the greatest news.. we do NOT want Chase to be an angel we want Chase at his best self and it sounds like he is doing that!!
I understand COMPLETELY about sending on to middle school.. for Gabe middle school has been a blessing it fits him and suits him SO much better than elementary . BUT as you say Chase seem to have found his niche right now, why take that away? . I know I was compeltely prepared to keep Gabe back in elementary if that was what he was thriving in. Wish schools would understand that!

Hi old friends,
It has been FOREVER since I've had time to visit this site. This is my 4th year with Jackson being fully included in my class. He spent 2 years in my pre-kdg class and these last 2 years in my K/1 class. He is such a neat little kid. I truly love him. He a one on one aide in the morning, and another one in the afternoon. His morning aide, Kathy, became extremely ill last week and ended up in ICU, close to death! I could really use your prayers for her. She has made a huge difference for Jackson. She won't be back for the rest of this school year so that she can recover. The school is hiring a new aide to replace her...without even giving me or his parents a say in the selection! All I can say is that this new person better be totally into Jackson, and love him and be a patient teacher to him or they'll have to deal with ME!!!! Keep us in your prayers as we deal with this tough transition. Jackson's afternoon aide is O.K. He tends to be more playful, not as much of a teacher for my boy!
I enjoyed catching up on your lives! I will be back to visit again soon.
Love,
Teacher Cheri Smith( or MIFF as Jackson calls me!)

Robin ,sweetie See, I told you I'm married to a genius. It took a rocket scientist to find the definition of your computer bug.
Just so you know, I'm not ready for my kid to go to middle school next fall. And Matt is the youngest in his class so won't even turn 11 till 2 wks before school starts.
Holly, I know you do stuff with Summer SO. Are you coming in at all this week for the PA Winter Games? Meri & I are most likely heading up to Hidden Valley tomorrow to catch part of the Alpine events. The Christmas light display group is sponsoring a suite, making kettle corn & doing Poloroid pics with our Twinkle mascot. (Guy in a star suit)

Hello to everyone out there in unomas land! It has been way to long for me. I feel Robin's pain because I too have just been to pooped to try and stay caught up with everyone. When I get online with you all I just want to catch up with everyone's life and I can't even catch up with my own right now!
For those of you who don't know me, I am Holly, mom to Jake (DS)who is almost 5, and Mia who is almost 7. We had lived in Michigan for the past 7 years but over Christmas, we moved to the York area of Pennyslvania. We are right near the Maryland border. Starting over in a new special ed school district and state has been interesting but so far not bad at all. We still have not found a peditrician or any of that stuff but it is on my list of top 10000 things that have to be done!
We are settling in to our new house and tonight I actually met a women and her child at McDonald's playland for a play date for the kids. We had met earlier at the McDonald's playland. What would I do without McDonalds?
We are all doing well and adjusting to the new environment. I can't wait for spring so Jake and Mia can play outside and we can start our garden. Robin, I will be needing you this spring. I will be wishing you could magically appear and make our yard as beautiful as yours!
Now, it is time to read a few updates on everyone!
Holly

hi everyone, sorry I have been sooooo busy and/or exhausted to even sit here and read or type. I am not sure I am ever going to catch up, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY to any and all birthday people I missed ok?
Chase is doing ....get ready for this.... he is doing FANTASTIC on his new medication!!! I told Susan I ams cared to say it out loud for fear of jinzing him, but he is so amazing these days!!!! He is listening, he is doing his work, I cant rememeber the last time he had a tantrum or threw himself on the floor. He is sweet, loving, huggy, and he is LISTENING to me, yes you read that right!!! He has even had the opportunity to run out the door and over the fence and has not even tried, can you believe it? He has started swimming lessons the school is paying for at anther school, they bus him there and the swim teacher (she has taught just specail needs kids for the last 27 years) says he is a JOY, yes I said JOY, LOLOL! She also said he has very very low tone in his trunk so I wish we had asked for this a lonnng time ago. However I am hoping between swimming and trampoline-ing once the weather gets nice..he will improve his tone.
He is of course still Chase so dont think I have found a total angel, LOLOL, but man oh man he is a pleasure these days :-D He still has that ole 21st chromozonal stubborn streak that is a mile wide LOL but really you guys, I smile every time I talk about him these days!!!!!!!!
We are having terrible times with the school however already over next year. he is 11, in the fifth grade and they are insisting he go to the middle school which is 6th, 7th and 8th graders and we aer freaking out. He has made so many great strides that I fear any great change like that. This year he has actually learned to really PLAY with other children, like they play, he has bloomed socially and is still doing great with teh academics he is offered and also does NOT want to go back to his regular classroom any more. I am asking his dr at U of M to give us a report for the school with his view on Chase being in the middle school...which I am praying will say it is like throwing him to the wolves. I know he has to go sometime, but to me it makes no sense to make such a huge change when he is doing so well!!!
Ok, you guys going to Los Vegas have a good time. Steff and Annie and Trish, this means you guys have got to come to Cedar Point this year so we all from this side of the country can visit with you again ok????? It has been WAYYYYYY too long.
