MICHELE: Way to go Kourtney...what a great evaluation!!
Michele, I can relate to the tears...most of the time we are told what our kids CAN'T do, and I know its in the spirit of helping, but man, sometimes it gets ya down. Its so exciting when our kids achieve a goal, no matter how big or small it is. Any step is a great accomplishment. Makes you appreciate the little things in life...Congrats to you, Kourtney, and your family..
Missed chat last nite...forgot it was Thursday!! gotta make it Sunday. We are still digging out here in Ohio..but it is warmer, about 20 degrees. Still have about 8 inches of snow on the ground. My little Shitzu,
Rizzo, is neck deep in the white stuff...and she loves it! Maybe she's a St. Bernard in Shitzu body..Lol
Still trying to get Eric back on some sort of Nap pattern..did fall asleep earlier this afternoon. Since the holidays he's been staying up all day, and then he
conks out around 5:pm...sleeps till 7pm...then up till at least 12AM...BAD-BAD-BAD!! I've tried keeping him up All afternoon but he just "falls over"..poor baby!
Hopefully he'll get back on track..I'm tired of watching Letterman with the kid..need my sleep! talk to ya all later.....Dolly

Good afternoon Unomasers!
Just wanted to pop in and let youall know that Kourtney had her evaluation, she is in a variable exceptionalitites class at a regular school, and the did the eval to see if there was any regression during the x-mas holiday break, and might I say that my little mama blew them away. She had no regression but had advanced and them team was quite impressed by that. Her speech and gross motor skills, all 3 of her therapists were so happy. I might add that it made me cry, for once they were happy usually they are telling what she can't do and what she should be doing and that really drives ya down, but this time the were telling me that they were happy that she is making such progress, I told them that we (family) work hard with her at home also and I hope that helps, I mean we have all of this stuff for her we have been trying to get her to walk on a 2by4 kinda acting like a balance beam and she can go half way. Before x-mas she could not even get on it. (it is ground level). I am so proud of her. But, then again I am always proud of her and her sister.
Just wanted to share some good news.....Hope everyone has a great day...The morning sickness is staring to settle down, still I can only eat chicken or pork, mentally I would kill for a big steak, but right now the baby is saying NO WAY !!!!
((((HUGS)))

Hi Alice! - Nice to know I was missed!!! LOL! I've missed all you guys too --- it seems like time has just flown by since we all met in Ohio! - Give your sweet Luke a hug from us -- Aimee has pics from the Get Together in her school locker -- so you guys all made a big impression on my 13 year old - even tho she didn't socialize as much as I would've liked her to! Maybe she'll feel more at ease on the next trip! Adam & Kate both talk about it too!! -- So when is the next get together??? -- My Kids don't get out of school until later in June (like the 20th or something like that) - so if there's an early summer one we may have to wait until later in the season....
- Well I was just checking in before I go do my Recess Duty over at Kate's school -- Both Adam & Aimee are home (again!) - But at least they are well enough for me to leave for an hour or so....I think I need a break from "Mmmmooooommm!!" - even if it means dealing w/ 60 kids on the playground slipping & sliding in the mounds of snow we have -- at least it's in the 20's today -- beats the single digits we have had of late!

I see some here are adding to their families -- congrats to all who are expecting -- I won't go into how laundry becomes a monster if you have more than 2 kids........!

Everyone have a fabulous day -- it's sunny here for once in Rochester -- (we've only had about 5 sunny days since the beginning of the year!) - Hope to stop in later!
{Hugs}!
Linda

PS - If any of you have seen the Harry Potter movies -might want to get your kids the Harry Potter CD game -- it keeps Adam absolutely occupied for hours on end!! And he loves "reading" all the words that come up on the screen.....so I guess it is kind of educational! Aimee bought it as a Christmas gift for Kate & Adam -- have to say I have snuck on late at night to play it too! LOL!

Hi All - Just flew in to check out a few posts -- too many to catch up on really!!!! - The oldest & youngest have been sick all week - URI this time --- haven't had any time to myself -- going from 1 to the other & if it's not them then it's the garbage needs emptying or the laundry needs doing or one of the animals needs something (poor goldfish are almost swimming in murk but I am too tired to change their bowl tonight!) - Then there's our dog - right under my feet of late -- don't know what's up with that - I guess she's feeling left out with all the attention I am giving the kids! LOL!

RISA - I see your sweet Marissa has had Pneumonia! I am soooo sorry - haven't even checked all my e-mails yet! I hope she is all better fast! It is soooooo hard when they are sick isn't it? So little and all -- But I think they are better troopers than us adults! Glad to hear she is on the mend! :)

Annie - So sorry to hear about your neice - I will definitely add her to our prayer list --- Wow! It almost sounds like a malpractice issue -- glad your sister stuck it out!! Doctors (as we all know here! - No offense to your DH Jackie!) don't know it all, do they?! Seems we all need to be self advocates all the time anymore these days....Life is just way too short! I hope she has a speedy recovery -- she's young, so I would think that would be a plus for her......

Debbie - Hi - Glad to see you post! I don't always go to the BB -- have a hard enough time getting a moment to stop here to read!

I will have to get a pic of Adam scanned & into the photo album --he is growing up so fast! - Our computer w/ the scanner was down for a month -- the mother borad & power something or another was replaced & the hard drive was wiped (I guess they suspected a virus..... Gateway makes millions I think on wiping your hard drive for only $79.95 due to a "suspected virus" -- luckily we were under warrenty & needed other parts so we paid nothing!) But I am totally bummed as we had a LOT of info on there & photos too -- none of which was backed up!!!!! :(

Clare - I see you are new - Welcome to Uno Mas - a great place!! - You'll meet lots of extra nice people here & then you will be addicted to this site, come here every othe waking minute & not get a thing done around the house for months - but you'll have a whole new family - so it's worth it!!! LOLOL!!! My son is also named Adam - so we have something in common! - I have never really heard of what you are describing - except I think there is a condition where your body produces too much iron -- happens more commonly in women I think - but I'm not sure... There are some links listed on this site that could maybe help -- Dr. Len Leshin is a Dr who has a site that is geared toward the Medical issues of DS as he also has a child w/ DS... Maybe you could find help there.... Good luck & keep us posted about your Adam!

Hi Cheri! Aren't you just the nicest teacher??! Kuddos to you girl for loving your student Jackson so much!
My Adam is 8 & he still drinks from a sippy cup - but not all the time. He still also sort of sticks his tongue out when sipping - I think part of it is cuz their tongue is just there & usually their tongues are longer than most & that's just what they like to do! In some ways I think letting Jackson use a bottle is helpful because I do think it strengthens some important muscles he may use in speech, which, when drinking from a cup, he uses other muscles -- so actually I think he is getting the best of both worlds. Mom is probably having a hard time letting her "baby" grow up -- and especially since he is the youngest!!! I can understand -- I have the same problem!! Helping him to go on to "big boy" things tho will benefit him.... Maybe you could suggest to her that she start telling him that "big" boys use a cup or a straw -- that sort of thing & I think when he is ready he will tell her he is bigger & doesn't need a bottle any more -- it may take awhile -- but eventually he'll get there!! I think we had Adam on a bottle until he was like 4 or so at least -- he eventually went to the straw & sippy cup & altho he could handle a reg cup it prob wan't until he went to Kindergarten & almost 6 before I had him drink from a cup at home (I honestly didn't want to deal w/ the spills!) He is fine now & is much more steady at holding a reg cup now & so has that at meal times - but in the car we still give him juice boxes or sippy cups! He has GREAT speech BTW & I do think besides the fact that he has 2 sisters & a Mom who are rarely quiet, that the straw/bottle/cup senerio helped strenthen his facial muscles......Just my take on it from a doting mother's standpoint!!! LOL!

Well it is well past my bedtime & the kids have 1 more day of school - or being at home - sigh....(I am soooo hoping Adam is well enough to go -- he was NON-stop TALK today!!!!) So Nite Nite Uno Friends!
{hugs}
Linda :)

Cheri, can you relocate to Michigan:). Is mom approachable on this topic. I know some can fly off the handle with even the slightest suggestions. Could you perhaps have her on the side and let her know how well Jackson does drinking out of a cup and how letting him have both is confusing him. I understand the non communication we went through that with our nephew he has 4 brothers and sisters so never really had to ask for anything, it took some doing to get the older ones to let him ask for things, but at 2 1/2 he started talking when the others basically had to ignore him. Anyway good luck and you are one awesome teacher:)

O.K. Unomas friends,
I need your input! Jackson is the youngest in his family and "the baby". His parents have a joint custody agreement and Jackson spends some time at Dad's house and some time at Mom's. When he is at mom's house he still drinks from a bottle. He is fully capable of drinking from a cup, and he does at school and at Dad's,but his mom feels the bottle comforts him and gives it to him before bed. I know it is none of my business, but I really disagree with her choice (so does the dad by the way). I also feel that Jackson is not communicating because he doesn't have to!! At home, he is catered to by both parents and siblings! He doesn't have to request things or make attempts at speech. There. . . thanks for letting me vent a little, , ,but I really want your opinions about the bottle thing!
P.S. I notice when Jackson drinks from a cup or water bottle with a cap, that he puts his tongue out like he is sucking a bottle.

Brrrrrrr!! I am sure this has been the general consensus all over the place, at least in the States, anyway. Here in New England, they say that if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it will change.... I'm still waiting and my oil gauge is still dropping. Meanwhile the price of oil continues to RISE!Uggh! Hope that everyone is doing okay-prayers have been said for anyone who has posted who have been troubled or ill. yes, prayer is indeed a powerful thing- I can personally attest to that. Our beautiful little Peggy-Linn has made it to her first birthday and is doing so well. We took her on the 23rd for a sedated echo on her heart, and the results were not as good as we would have liked to have heard, but it isn't the end of the world..... She may need to have a catheterization done on the pulmonary artery during the summer sometime, altho nothing definite yet. Her cardiac doc is consulting at this time with the others on his team, and will let us know in about a month. Will keep everyone informed. She had a relatively uneventful birthday because she was so tired from the previous day, but we celebrated with some wonderful English truffle, and presents, including a gorgeous pair of emerald cut diamond earrings- something Mommy doesn't even have yet! :) We felt that with everything she has gone thru this past year, she DESERVES diamonds! It was just the four of us- PL, Sister Aly, Daddy Bob and Mommy, and complete with Elmo balloon. The next day, Saturday the 25th, we had a bigger party with more friends and family. It was nice, but I was disappointed because alot of the people that said they would be there, never called or showed up- I just don't understand people sometimes, and it really gets me down. What ever happened to RSVP and its meaning? I have learned after 42 yrs. that not everyone was raised with the same values of respect that I was....... HO HUM.... Just recently started to read Choosing Naia, by Mitchell Zukoff- and as many of you probably know, it is about the daughter and family of the treasurer of the National Down Syndrome Congress,Greg Fairchild. Can't wait to finish it and get to emailing him...have connections!!!!! ;>) Did anyone get to see the documentary on Dateline NBC awhile back, or any other programs? Has anyone seen Graduating Peter? My husband taped it for me, but I haven't seen it yet. I am hoping that someone can help me with a problem with pics I would like to share- have got pics online at Walmart for about the next 2 weeks, and am able to mail them individually to people, but have a couple of sites like this one that I would like to post at but don't know how...PC for Dummies 101 anyone? HELP!!! She is so cute, would love to share her with the world,... about getting time to go watch AMERICAN IDOL-yes, another fan!!! I'm hooked.. also think I am hooked on this site! Thanks Michelle, wherever U R!! Will be back with you all soon. Pray for Peace, everyone, MRS. SCHULER

WE are working wtih "tethered bolus" now, a mesh fabric with food inside and we place it in the back of his mouth on his molar to show him that he CAN chew! Any feedback is appreciated!

It has been a long week Marissa is battling pneumonia we have her home on treatments every 4 hours, steroids, antibiotics and oxygen and all the rest of the good stuff. She is finally over the hump and is starting to get better but I am stir crazy from it all. On a more positive note I signed her up for nursery school in September if all goes well she will attend the regular nursery school 2 mornings a week with a shadow teacher and then she will attend the special DS preschool 5 afternoons a week. I have been trying to catch up with all that is going on but have not been able to get through the message boards. Hope you are all doing well .

Thanks everyone, trust me had I known about this I would have cut myself out of it lol.
Well it's 25 degrees here and it's kinda funny it feels great after what we have been getting so if it stays like this I will be happy lol.
I so can't wait for June to get here it's worse than waiting for Christmas as a kid lol.
Michele-hope you feel better soon, I really sick with the first two but with Justin it was smooth sailing except for the fact I couldn't stand the smell of poultry and he never slept kicked morning noon and night maybe that's why he has always been a great sleeper he's trying to catch up lol. I am so glad to hear everything is going well.
Dolly-aren't they the little stinkers indeed lol. I fixed Mr. Justin though I started video taping him and let his teacher see exactly what he was doing for us that he just flat out refused for her lol.
Debi lol what are you talking about you are our fearless weird leader lol. Well just over 4 mos and we will all be one big happy family again :) I can't take it I'm not going to make it that long :)
Well today I picked up my nephew and while I was there decided to take Justin into the gross motor room and work with him on some of the equipment there, his PT is going to check into to make sure it is OK for us to do this possible daily, she says she don't know if she could be there with us though and I said I wasn't expecting her to be I know what he needs to be working on and I also know how to do it. He just loved the tramploine but may be because it is new to him so will have to wait and see on that one.
Robin- are you warming it up up there for us or am I going to have to bring it with us and oh yeah I'll bring the puppy for ya too do you need his kennel, just to warn ya he can get out it ugggh! lol. OK OK I'm just kidding lol. Tell me again what ever were we thinking. Although I think I did try to warn you lol.

Adam had blood work done last week. They called and said they had to repeat the test as the hemoglobin levels were very high.(150) His white count was good and so was his red cell count. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this. All I can find on the net is about low hemoglobin anemia. He has been really tired lately, irritable, out of sort and the teacher said today has lost all interest even in things he usually loved to do. He has been the same at home, no interest even in his favorite foods. He gets really dark almost purple under the eyes, and sometimes even his finger tips. We are really worried. If you have had this problem with your child please help. May be worried for nothing but better safe then sorry.

Hello Uno Masland! I am home. It was a busy weekend but I totally enjoyed every minute... well with the exception of the 12 total hours spent alone in the car with the two monsters!

OMG... It was soooo wonderful seeing Annie and Mary! They are awesome! Of course... Annie... I could have done without the ice cream cones... you created one monster here! LOL. Patrick was well behaved, Emily said to me... can we go see "Patrick the Hairpuller again.. he was fun!!" And Mikey was absolutely adorable... even without his shirt! He had me in stitches and he was so cute... he was trying to wipe Katie's face while she was eating her ice cream cone. Too Cute ~!
Well gotta go read the BB... Hugs to you all! I cannot wait until June!

Hello Jenny glad that seems to work with the spoon. If Jaylie is still taking her formula/breast milk I wouldn't worry to much about the solids too much yet. She will get her nutrients from the milk. Introducing her to the solids now will get her ready for when she is ready to go solo on the solid food. She'll be fine!! Wow I can't believe she is already eating table food! That is really good...Ashlyn took forever to do that. She gagged alot when we tried to get her to eat anything but baby food or cereal. So it sounds like she is doing pretty good!!! I am from North Carolina. We have 3 kids Spenser 8, Ashlyn 3 1/2 and Mason 22 months. We stay really busy!!!! I am sure that you do to! Just wait until she gets mobile. You'll be asking how do I keep her out of the bathtub, toilet, out of the trash can, LOL!!

Hello all! Ashlyn is such a cutie, i also have a little 3 1/2 year old. His name is Dylan. i have tried letting her kinda suck the spoon and that seems to help. I think she doesnt like the taste because she likes table foods very well!! I just get worried that she cant get her nutrients from them only. We have tried alot of different kinds and have found a few she likes. Her hair is VERY slowly comming in and is so blonde that you cant see it, but it is getting so you can feel it. I would love to know where everyone is from, i am from northwestern SD and i hear so much about all the goings on in other places and would like to know where everyone is from!! Thanks so much.

Hello everyone, I am new to this site, invited by a good friend. Dylan is 6 and in Grade 1. Things are pretty good I guess, could always be better. He is very strong and is now into flipping our sofa in our TV room on its back. I keep saying he is going to be a furniture mover when he grows up. LOL. His speech is pretty good, not talking in sentences but we pretty much know what he is saying. He likes playing ball with his brother Cody (almost 13) and their Dad. Just thought I would check and and look forward to going on this site more often. Thanks

We arrived safely and into the arms of our loving family....Zoë was already in bed, but Pierce opened up to us after a 5-minute "shy" period.
Zoë sleepily greeted me this a.m. with "das gramma" so I am REALLY back in the fold!!!
Thanks to Jackie, Ed and Emily, our trip down was made SO VERY SPECIAL. They are a wonderful family and made us feel so welcome and comfortable.
....what's this about cream cheese brownies, Jackie....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I shall run along side the car for 20 miles if I can get to sample those!
Hugs to all...

I heard from grammajoan today and they made it in good shape to California. Can you imagine.....Winnipeg to Kansas City in one day.....Kansas City to Amarillo the next....then a grueling Amarillo to Palm Springs on Superbowl Sunday!!!!!! They promise a visit on the way back and we are REALLY looking foreward to that. Every one should be lucky enough to have a grammajoan in their lives. I got to see tons of pictures of Zoë and Pierce (and LOL...she showed me how to make the umlat on Zoë's name.) We introduced them more or less to fajitas...I guess I thought the whole world ate them at least once a week...also black beans and blue corn tortillas. If they come back thru here...barbe

Welcome Claire, loved the poem!

Just stopped in to brag. Hayli (non-DS) got 1st place in her solo dance competition in Evansville. She also got first with her group competition. Boy is she good!! LOL :). Just a little prejudice I guess. Just had to brag, her and Cody sure didn't get their rhythm from their mommy or their great personalities. No shy bone in them.

Hello everyone! In response to Jenny about Jaylie. I have been there! Poor Ashlyn had no hair on the sides or back and one very, very long piece on top that stood up! She looked like a rooster! I didn't think it would ever lay down. But it did finally! Her other hair finally came in and she had a pretty picture for her first birthday! She now has nice hair to put in pigtails! She is #72, but you can't see her hair very well in that picture! As far as her teeth go...I wouldn't worry too much about where it is coming in just yet. Sometimes teeth fool you. They may look like they are coming in crazy, but by the time they are in they are okay. Ashlyn had a few to look like they would be out of whack but her teeth are all pretty straight (right now anyway!!)
Now for the eating problem. Is it that she doesn't like it, or that she spits it out with her pretty little tongue? If she is spitting it out....what I did with Ashlyn, and it seemed to work- I would use a small plastic coated baby spoon and instead of shoveling the food into her mouth and taking the spoon out....I would sort of put the spoon in her mouth and rest the spoon on her tongue. She would then suck the food off of the spoon instead of pushing the food out of her mouth! This worked to get her used to the idea of eating from a spoon and having it in her mouth. It worked for her and hopefully it will help Jaylie?!! Try it a couple of times and see how she does. Hope I have been of some help! I know how it is when your baby is so small and you feel so alienated sometimes. I had friends who had babies at the same time that I had Ashlyn and their babies were taking off doing things way before Ashlyn and I felt left behind a lot of times. I had no one in my community to ask for guidance in these things either, the kids with Downs that I knew were older and I felt crazy asking their moms some of the things I REALLY wanted to know!! If I can help you in any way or answer any questions for you just let me know! I am with you!! Feel free to e-mail me anytime! Take care.

This is a poem that I wrote for my son 2 years ago and was published in a novel called A Grasp To Eternity.
Although I don't necessarely still feel the same way now I thought I would share it with you.
Given The Chance
They told us he was different, and we'll have to be patient.
They labeled him at birth, that in this world he had no worth.
They said he might not talk, they said he might not walk.
But if you met Adam today, he would surprise you in many ways.
They used to call them "Mongoloid", it was a shame to be avoided.
Now they're called "Exceptionnal", but never would they call them "Normal"
With love and guidance, my son will go the distance.
And when his goals are achieved, you will not be deceived.
Because he needs more time to adapt, people say he's handicap.
But will he be given the chance to learn?
Is this mother's only concern.

Annie~ You beat me to the post!

Dont let Annie fool you~Mikey was adorable. He took off his shirt in the play area and inspired another little girl to do the same. I thought we had found the only nudist McDonalds in the country. LOL Mikey was so sweet too, he gave Patrick a goodbye kiss~it was too cute. And dont even get me started on Zach~that kid is gorgeous! He is going to break a lot of little girls hearts. Of course Katie and Emily are just too cute. Katie and Patrick seemed to hit it off~so if there are any other little guys waiting for Katie you'll have to get in line behind Patrick!LOL. It was so great to get together with those guys and I got some really cute pictures that I will be posting.

OK, gotta run. Have a great evening everyone!

HI.. I forgot one thing!!!!!

JUDI... I thought of you this morning....I opened a book I got from the media access office. What they do is they are a disability resource for the entertainment industry....So I am reading and looking at pictures and I see 2 boys about sam and patricks age identical twins with ds. They are sooo cute. I was curious if you know them. You seem to know everyone..LOL.. Their names areBrenden and Benjamin Minor...They are from Central Cali....The media access office actively promotes the employment and accurate employment of persons with disabilities in all areas of the media and entertainment industry. What I like about them is that they also really try to add more non traditional casting opportunities(casting an actor with a disability in a role that was not necessarily created for a person with a disability) and also even the fact that they really try to better inform the public so as to decrease discrimination and show we are here to stay... LOL... Anyhow if anyone is interested in looking at their site here's the addy...

www.disabilityemployment.org then click on Media Access Office icon... Alright See ya...

WAIT ADRIENNE WHERE ARE YOU?? I am starting to worry about you!!!!!

I have been checking you guys out for a while on the advice of Jackie, Justins mom. She and I know each other from our kids although we moved away about 4 months ago. Hello to Jackie and family- hope all is well-. I will quickly say I have 4 children from almost 11 to 4. My 4 year old the one with DS- His name is John and is a great kid. He is at preschool today and had really bloomed while there. They can sure get him to do things I could never convince him to try. As a family we are doing well, John's diagnoses has never been "easy", but time certainly is the healer. He just had his birthday last week and I am proud of him as ever. His biggest delay is speech, which we are working on- He seems to learn new words every day- getting him to use them is the trick. I too am a University of Michigan Mott hospital fan, as they have taken wonderful care of John - We are on our longest streak of "no hospitalizations" ever, almost a year. Once again, time has proven a wonderful healer- He is bigger and we are wiser to treat symptoms early..Thanks for the free advice I have been taking the last month or so- Decided to register so I wouldn't feel like an eaves dropper.

YAY !!!... Our visitors have left... not that I dont enjoy having people to stay... but it is also nice when they leave.....

Today is now clean up and put the hose back in order day... wash the towels and sheets, pack away the extra beds, put the furniture back into place......

I was given a LARGE box of mangoes yesterday... gave 30 to our visitors to take back to the city with them... Have sliced up 20 and put into the food dehydrator, have sliced and frozen 20, made Hot Mango pickle with 20 of them..... and still have about 20 left in the box.... and people in the city are paying $2 each for mangoes!!!

I dont know what happened to chat today... but I was not happy !! Thanks Cathy and Susan for Yahoo-ing with me for a while !!

Jackie and Emily... good work with the WW thing !!... You are making me feel bad now... I keep saying I am going to lose some weight... but I always seem to come up with an excuse to eat some more...
I know I can do it... I lost 20kg before I fell preg with Lewis... and have only put 10 of it back on... but that is 10 more than I need!!.........

Gotta be going, have to clean up they yard and put away the garden furniture etc... there is a cyclone developing further up north, so we have been put on watch for it. If it grows to full, it shouldnt reach this far down, but we have to prepare anyway....

Until next time...

Tammy.

I know there are threads about this on the Bulletin Board, but I thought I'd mention the summer get togethers here for anyone who might not be able to get into the BB. So far, we are planning at least TWO summer get togethers! ! ! ! ! ! !
The first one will be (tentatively?) the weekend after Father's day ....June 20-22, near Chicago Illinois. We don't have definite plans for activities, but we might go to Six Flags amusement park, will definitely have some sort of picnic at a local park, possibly a trip to the zoo, will swim at the hotel, and will DEFINITELY spend a lot of time talking and laughing and enjoying each other's kids!
~
AND.....July 11-13th (please correct me if those days are not right) there will be a get together in combination with the NDSS conference in St. Louis MO. For anyone who has never been to a BIG conference, it is a great experience!!! There are also a LOT of fun things to do in the St. Louis area....the zoo, baseball, etc. So, this conference and get together would be the best of both worlds! Everyone is invited to one or both of these get togethers. And, it is a bit too early, but we might consider another Labor Day weekend get together in Ohio too if enough people are interested. The plans will get firmer as the days get nearer.....please come to wherever you are closer to! (I know that was horrible grammar!)
~
WELCOME TO baby CALEB, who was born on 1/22/02 at 12:33 am! Congratulations to Cindy and Chris! Can't wait to hear more about the little guy!

Hello Unomas Land...

Just wanted to stop in and let you know I met a new mommy today with a cute little guy named Justin who is 5 months old. So, if your looking Lora...jump in the water is fine!!! You will find so many nice people her that are a wealth of information.

Collin turns 3 on February 1st and I am still waiting (not so patiently...but waiting) for the school to schedule his case conference. There's nothing like waiting until the last minute. The found Collin eligible for services under a Speech Delay...and they seemed floored when I said I wanted preschool for him...go figure.

Well off the celebrate my oldest babies 7th Birthday. I probably won't be in chat.

Prayers for all
Connie

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement for our WW experience so far. Another friend told me I should take Emily to the grocery store and have her put a one lb can of Crisco for every pound she has lost in the basket ...leave it in while we shop...then go put it back up. Actually now I think we will take this a step farther...we will buy one can for every pound she loses...stack them up in the garage...then when she is done donate them to the food bank here. I think I might also do this and we can compare sizes of our stacks....and Dolly...at WW your first goal is not your total wt loss ...its 10% of your total body wt...and unless you weigh over 500 lbs it will be considerably less than 50 lbs....LOL. But that diabetes risk is REAL...as the wife of an endocrinologist I am well aware of it all....so dont put it off too long. I guess too ...the more people you tell you are doing this...the harder it is to quit!!!!! Thanks for the support you all...will keep you posted. I am doing a BEFORE pic...but wont post it until we have an AFTER one to go with it.

Hello everyone~~~ I myself have been wondering about Bella and her mom....I agree w/ you Steff I hope she is just busy. Everything on this end is going great not even morning sickness yet and we are due 9/17/03..At the end of March the Doc said she is going to have me see a specialist they are going to do a 3-D ultra sound...She explained it like being able to see the baby just like having a video camera in there I am very excited to have this done, she said that when they do this the specialist also has a 4-D ultrasound and there porbably would be no need for an Amnio to be done because of how much they can see with thes new ultra sound machines. Wow it has been almost 4 years since I had Kourtney and the technology advancement has made leaps and bounds with testings and equipment since then..Well, thank you for all of the Congratulations..Hope you all have a WARM and fabulous evening...It is even going to be 27 degrees here in St.Petersburg FL w/ a wind chill into the TEENS !!!!! What is that about I thought I lived in the SUNSHINE STATE>>>>Coldest it has been in the last 7 years.....KEEP WARM EVERYBODY !!
Love and Hugs,

Brrrrr......it is cold here in Ohio!!! Dolly, school was canceled around you?? We were not so lucky :( Raven did have school today! We froze our little tooshes off!! I guess I shouldn't complain though, because it is probably colder in Michigan!! Right Robin, Cathy, Jackie (Justin's mom)???

Don't have much time to talk....Raven has an appointment to get her AFO's checked. She's had the same ones for almost 2 years....her feet are so tiny!! I am hoping she'll get a new pair, one with a little more mobility :) We'll see!!

Well, Raven is definitely feeling better....PT worked her tail off at school today :) When we were leaving, she just layed her pretty little head down on her stroller tray....too cute!! Hope everyone has a great day.....keep warm!!

Tricia....my condolences to your family. Sorry to hear about your father's sister

Hi gang! Sorry to be away sooo long. My father had another sister pass away last week and of course all the OTHER life stuff keeps happening :-). But...today...life has slowed down. YEP we have BIG SNOW in sunny South Carolina. Well...big for us. It appears to have stopped but we have probably 3 inches. For us...that is major LOL. ALL the schools are closed and will probably be closed tomorrow also. We only get the stuff usually every few years so they don't have much in the way of road equipment. Suits me fine....I didn't want to do the stuff that was scheduled for the next few days anyway! It feels like Saturday cause the kids are glued to cartoons and we ate pancakes. I am sitting around all grungy and loving it.

Jackie- So happy to hear about yours and Emily's success with weight watchers! You know, our Susan here, has lost quite a bit on it. I was a member last year but was kinda lazy about it and only lost 5 pounds. But....I agree with whoever said that you really have to be ready to lose mentally. Our WW leader is so much fun...she really knows how to motivate people. She says if she could, she would rename Weight Watchers, just like those summer camps with indian names....and would call it Camp Havetogottawanna. LOL Oh, and Susan showed me a really neat site where everyone is on Weight Watchers and has great info, I'll try to post the link above. The name of it is dotti's weight lose zone. Its www.dwlz.com I think. Maybe if we all start now...we'll be a bunch of skinnies on that cruise next year!!! LOL Then we can eat alllll that food! I plan on rejoining weight watchers when they send me a coupon like last year...basically got 20 weeks at $5 a week with no signup fee. Can't beat that deal. Meanwhile, I will try to slowly get back into the point system. I'll start with just writing down what I eat...with no points...even that is an eye opener. If you all have things that work for you...please share.
Gotta scoot, Patrick is pushing in the keyboard and the guys are wanting to know when we are going to play in the snow. Shoot, just when you relax...Although, we did bring back some cool plastic sleds from our trip to California...thank goodness it was worth lugging them on the plane!!
Later yall, Tricia

ME again;
forgot to add:
JACKIE AND EMILY...way to go girls...thats a wonderful start to the new year!. Weight watchers seems like a very sensible and healthy way to loose weight..my girlfriend lost over 40lbs doing the program. SHe gave me alot of good tips..I like the fact that NO food is forbidden..and the point system makes alot of sense.
I guess the biggest hurdle is DECIDING when your ready to get serious about weight loss. I'm to the point that
now that I NEED TO GET SERIOUS...starting to affect my health. At my last check-up, the old Blood pressure was up and my blood sugar wasn't great either..I was a gestational diabetic when pregnant with my Eric, so my
chances of becoming diabetic are increased. Plus I have a family history.(only sibling who is not a full-blown diabetic). I better get my act together...I have a little one to raise, and a grandchild on the way.
But 50lbs..sounds like sooo much! I'd rather think of it in small increments..like 2lbs per week..gotta get psyched up..Jackie, keep posting yours and Emily's progress...gives me inspiration. Dolly

Morning all;
Another FREEZING day here in Ohio...they had to close the schools cuz its sooo cold. That Groundhog better give us some Good news next month!
THANKS for the advice about the leg braces...I think I'm just gonna leave them off for now...he walks so much better without them. I guess he just doesn't like the restriction...But as long as he's taking some steps, i don't care how he does it! I will talk to his Pt and see what she says.
Could someone E-Mail me some info on the Illinois get-to-gether? For some reason, I can't figure out the bulletin board (I need the "computer for dummies book).
my e-mail address is dontsayduck627@yahoo.com.. I really want to try and make it this year, so any info would be helpful in our planning....Thanks Dolly

For those of you who do not know ..we are very lucky to have a lovely woman named Debbie who has mosaic DS posting here with us. She just made a post that everyone needs to read who is worried about the tv show Graduating Peter. It is on the BB under the title of Did anyone see Graduating Peter. I have learned so much from Debbie thru the years...her insight is something that only someone who has "been there" can express. How fortunate for all of us that Debbie is comfortable doing just that ...and is wonderfully eloquent as well. She used to go with me to a local HS here to talk about what it is like to have a disability. I think she really made some students in those Child Development classes think about their relationships with students who had special needs. Keep posting Debbie....and thanks.

I was wondering if anyone has had a baby with thin hair? Jaylie has none on the back of her head, and very little on the sides but one long part on top. i try not to let her be on her back too much in hopes that it will come in but no luck yet. I also wondered about teeth, she seems to be getting one behind her natural gumline and it is right in the middle on the bottom, not on the side like it should be.Also any ideas on how to get he to eat baby food better?

Hey y'all - It's me, Judi the lurker!

First off CONGRATULATIONS JACKIE AND EMILY!! I need to get off my big fat behind and join WW too! I keep hearing so many wonderful success stories.

Ok - the reason for my post - I have a friend who has double dumplin's just like Sam and Patrick. Her name is Sandy (Some of you old timer Unomaser's may remember this family from a while back when I was asking for prayers for them constantly!). Anyway, the twins, Alex and Paul both have trachs. The boys both had bronch's done recently and one of them (I can't remember which one) will be able to be decannulated (have the trach removed) this spring. The other boy has some big time problems. His airway above the trach has "occluded" or closed! He needs some major surgery so that they can re-open the airway so he can eventually be decannulated also. Unfortunately, the only place they can get this surgery done is in Cincinnati (not so much for the surgery itself, which could be done here in Texas, but it's the support and aftercare that they have the real "exertise" in).

So, Sandy and one of the twins are going to be flying to Cincy and will be there for approximately 2-4 weeks. Sandy's looking into staying at a nearby Ronald McDonald house while she's there.

Are there any Unomaser's out there who live in or near Cincinnati who's email addy I could pass on to Sandy so she could have a "local" point of contact (and maybe support) while she's in town? If so, drop me an email at work (judi.grossman@gsa.gov) and I'll forward on to her. In addition to this going on w/one of the twins, her daughter who has been battling a brain tumor (inoperable) for years has taken a turn for the worse and could pass on at any time. Even if you don't live in the area, if you could keep Sandy and her family in your prayers?

Hugs to all,

Judi-Mom to Sam & Patrick, 6, Identical twins/DS

Hello everyone! Things have been pretty calm around here lately, just trying to ride out the freezing weather. It's supposed to hit a high of 10 degrees tomorrow-I hate this-can't wait until June!
Patrick is still very congested and his nose is running all the time. On Friday it will be 2 weeks since he had his adnoids out and I was really hoping to see an improvement. I'm calling his ENT tomorrow to see what he has to say.

Jackie~Congrats to you and Emily on your great start! My aunt is on that program and has lost 70 pounds so far. She gave me a palm pilot with all the points programed into it and I'm just trying to keep track of points on my own and eat healthier. Once the baby is born I will probably start the actual program with WW.

Jackie(Justins mom)~ You have to make it to Illinois in June. I would love to see cute little Justin in person(and the rest of your family too, of course!). You just have to talk Dh into it.

Steff~How's Olivia feeling today? I hope she's doing better. I'm sure she was acting the way she did because she wasn't feeling well. Give her a big hug from us.

RebeccaWelcome to Uno Mas! I have a 3 year old boy with Ds, 3 other boys and a baby due in July. We live in Buffalo Grove which is about an hour away from Midway. Maybe we could meet at a halfway point sometime. I know Robin mentioned the get together in June so you have to make room in your schedule to join us. If you check the bulletin board there is a thread there that has lots of info about the plans as they stand so far. Can't wait to hear more about your little one.

Michele~Sorry, I am overdue in my congratulations to you. How are you feeling? Hopefully you're not having any morning(or all day) sickness. I am going to have a baby in July and I chose not to have the amnio so I can't tell you what it's like. I've also been wondering lately if I made the right choice. I just want to know if everythings ok with the baby and it has been on my mind a lot lately. I have a level 2 ultrasound on Feb. 25 so hopefully that will ease my mind a little. Congratulations again!

OK~I should get around to making dinner. I'm still not feeling great (and now have a cold too ) so making dinner is something I dread every night. I usually end up just having a bowl of Rice Krispies myself but have to cook for the rest of the gang. Have a great evening everyone!

WELCOME Rebecca and Tori! I hope you will love it here as much as we do, although have to warn ya it is a bit addicting lol. Look forward to hearing more about your little Tori.
Steff- big hugs to little Liv poor little thing,Praying that she feels better real soon.
Robin-how's the back feeling better I hope.
Well as far as Justin goes we are waiting to hear back from the parent advocate I finally found. She wants to call me to further discuss things and let me know what she has found out,so keep those fingers crossed and those prayers coming. I think I may have something since they are trying to push the PPI classroom on him because he is not talking and they haven't offered sp. to him thus far. He is picking up new signs like you wouldn't believe his favorite now cookies I tried to stay away from that one as long as I could lol. I'm still worried about his psych. eval. though I have no idea what to expect any input would be grately appreciated. I can actually feel each and every gray hair popping through OUCH! there goes 10 more uggggggh Help! please lol.
So far Chuck is saying we may be able to make the Illinois trip, we usually have Alyssas' B-day party early in the month while school is still in for a sleep over. So it's looking good so far so if you could when you see him out here kinda well ok beg him please. Robin tell him Dave said that if he is going then Chuck has to come too lol. They are always coniving anyways so why can't we lol.
Well gotta go start picking up the last batch of kids, and I hear Justin upstairs rearranging his room again.

Raven has been running a fever off & on since Thursday, took her to the doc yesterday...ear infection :( She usually doesn't have a problem with her ears.

Well, gotta go....the girls are done with lunch :) My little window is about gone!! :) I'll try to post some pictures soon....I have them, just haven't had time to scan & post!! Since I have had the 3rd baby, I do not know where my time goes!!! lol!!! It is getting easier though :) Have a wonderful afternoon Uno Masers!!!!!

Alright you guys I am feeling really guilty right now.. ;( Went to bed thinking WELL tomorrow will be the first day Liv will be at school and her play program since last Thurs.. Thinking PHEW cause I need a break..LOL.. As I slip into dreamland for a few hours I hear something. Olivia is up puking in the bathroom(YES she is soo good bout running as fast as she can to the toilet(unlike my son -is that a boy thing?) Then I feel her take her temp and she has her famous 105 temp. Sick as a dog. Really super congested in her chest too.Poor boo. SO Just wanna say I revise my last post bout her cause I will give her 1 day like that...probably didn't feel good and I had to schlep her around) no excuse for the things she did mind you..BUT makes me feel better cause I have never seen her act like that.perhaps she was feeling sick and I didn't know it? Sometimes she tells me things that are such fake outs. for example when we were at Knotts she would LOLOLOL fall to the floor then act like she really hurt herself(she would not really fall just lie on the ground while my back was turned) then say I FELL MOMMY HELP ME..People who saw the ACT were laughing so hard. Virtual strangers got such a kick out of her acting job.SO hence I am not quite sure when she is telling me the truth bout that stuff.. SO Olivia I take it back this once. K??? LOL Nighty night...P.S. One of these days i will get some time off I swear......Then I am getting on a plane and coming to see one of you!!! LOL

I am new to this site, happened upon it thru the nads site. I am the mom of a 4 yr old in chicago with ds and just looking to meet other moms. I have lost any contact with other moms , read some of the posts and I must admit I'm thrilled ( in some sick sort of way ) that I am not the only one who has a stubborn headstrong sometimes impossible child. Thank god we love them! I hope to hear from some of you, I'm near midway airport in the city. Would love to connect !

Hello Unomas Land!!!

Cheri -- I just had to LOL!!! We take Collin the bathroom and do the "POTTY DANCE" too. To say the least we look really silly in public doing this dance but hey if it works... I'll do anything to get this child out of diapers.

Steff -- We have had those days with Collin also...STUBBORN, DEFIANT and just plain old OBSTINANT. This child stomps his foot at me and argues with me (One good thing about him not being to verbal is....Since I can't understand what he is saying I don't have to beat his hiney for cusing at me...LOL) I just have to say I love LIV's hair!!! It really make her eye's pop out and frames her face so beautifully.

Well, Collin had his IEP evaluation (after I pushed to have them schedule it -- but that is another story that I'm not going into right now). I thought that because of his diagnosis he would automatically quailify for services but seems in Indiana that is not the case. They have one more score to come in and that's on is expressive speech and if he does well on that he will probably will not qualify for services... I was just floored!!! I am so happy he's doing well but it has taken me 7 hours of therapy a week for the past 2.5 years to keep his almost age appropriate. I thought I was just going to have to agrue with them about what preschool setting to put him in not fight for his services OT and especially ST. My insurance doesn't pay for therapies, He was denied the Support Service waiver, and to be honest.....with what they charge for therapy I can't afford to pay for it!!!... I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens when the schedule his IEP...Prayers and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks and Prayers for all
Connie

HI!!!!!!

DOLLY CONGRATS to you and most especially ERIC!!!!! YAY!!!!!That is great news. BTW I just saw his picture in the album and sooo glad Susan scanned it for ya. He is adorable. You must be SOOO PROUD!!!!

Annie How is Raven?? Since this is one of your resolutions please tell us more bout her. What kind of school program does she attend and where are some more pictures of that CUTIEPIE!!!!

OKAy I am sitting here for the first time in what seems like forever. I MUST vent right now cause I just gotta. And btw don't get me wrong I love my girl to death BUT we had the DAY yesterday... K... First she started off the day by being really mean to me. Screaming at me GET AWAY. I Don'y like you.... etc etc. So we hafta go to a new eyeglass store cause Costco called up to say her script was TOOO strong and their lab can't do em. SO we go to a store I like.. She is a TOTAL NIGHTMARE!!!!!As a matter of fact she kicked the back of my seat as I was driving the entire time.(my BIG BIG pet peeve.)At the glasses store she refused to get up and try em on or if she did she would run around the store grabbing at the glasses on the shelves. SO I find a GREAT pair of specs(fisher price) the frames are 120 but too cute to pass up. I bring the wrong ins card.(her ins only pays 40.00 of the entire frames and lenses) then find out from the guy her lenses are soo strong they are gonna be far more expensive than I am used to paying. SO the specs are 220.00 total. I decide to come back the next day when I get her right ins. card. We leave with her lying on the floor refusing to get up acting like OMG SCARY!!!! I get her in the car kicking and screaming (and still kicking the back of my gee darned seat.) and we are off to costco t get my 90.00 dollars I had paid for the glasses she couldn't make. ANOTHER scary trip in there. The girl even calls the lab back and asks em if we pay more for the lenses can they do em... NO they say.. I ask her to ask them what I should expect to pay for these type of lenses(so I don't get ripped off elsewhere) and they say between 100-150..(just the lenses) They also suggested calling the junior blind foundation for some help or the lions club(we are sooo poor right now)So we leave and get in the car whereby Liv gets a video as I am strapping her in and throws it at my face cause a big bleed on my forehead. SO I say she is grounded after we eat lunch. Kyle begs me not to ground her practically in tears himself(he is sooo protective of her) and BEGS her to say SORRY....Shein turen crosses her arms and YELL I AM NOT SAYING SORRY a few times and i drive off. UGGG. Lunch is here I put her in her room and she is crying her eyes out.. UGGG.Throwing toys freaking out.... BIG TIME... So FINALLY I get em to bed and I am beat and about ready to go to bed when I walk upstairrs to find this smell like NEVER before. WELL Liv had the runs all over everywhere. She was still sleeping too. YUCK I don't know how) Kyle was gagging.I had to wake her up , put her in the bath change her sheets mattress cover clean walls air out the room,.(took bout an hour) then FINALLY it was bedtime. Can't tell you how stressed out I was.I have never seen her like this.. SCARY SCARY SCARY!!! I was sooo drained lemme tell ya... GOTTA go had to vent ...

I meant no disrespect about the looks of anyones child!!! I live in a town of like 40 people and the closest town that has more that 500 is 130 miles. I have hardly ever seen any children or adults with DS and all i see is the outdated books, so it is so good to see all the very beautiful children on here!! We live in nw south dakota. I have been doing weightwatchers for 5 months now and know how hard it can be. I didnt have tons to loose but any weight is enough!! Good luck and i know it works, a friend of mine has now lost 100 lbs so it does work. jaylie isnt on all the programs that people are referring to on here and i was wondering if she should be? All she is in is an Early headstart program, and she goes to a heart specialist, on friday and hopefully her hole has closed. If anyone knows of any programs in SD please let me know.

ANNIE C..just want to add my congrats to your RAVEN..she is a super trooper and no mistake. LOL..when she walks she will probably just run. I would say she has the best possible therapist in the world on her side: her Mom.
Alice...I dont know if your PT is really accuate in her statement that people w/ DS look different/more varied now than 30 yrs. ago. I would venture a THEORY just a theory that ..with infant stim/home care...etc etc..we are helping our children florish and blossom. The "mask" of DS that used to show up in the clinical literature has been pretty much discarded and if anyone is still using it they should be visiting the Uno Mas photo album.

Hi everyone,
I am so excited, Jackson used the potty in our classroom on Friday and again today!!! His aide takes him in the bathroom every day and sits him on that potty and then changes his pullups. We sign toilet before he goes in there and today, he signed toilet too! Then he went in there and Peed!!!!! OK. . .to it sounds silly to get so excited, but I have been changing this boy for 3 years! It is a goal in his IEP to use the restroom!!
It's small, but it's a step in the right direction. The whole class celebrated by doing a little dance (like in the movies) and singing Pee pee in the potty! Everyone got a treat too! Hopefully he will begin to use the potty every day! I LOVE CELEBRATIONS!

HI DOLLY: yes I can relate a little bit.. when Gabe had AFOs he did not care for them a bit...and we went thro the challenge of keeping them on. His PT stressed that he ALWAYS wear hi tops which he does wear to this day. (I dont think he hated his as bad as Eric does, however)
Gabe is the original barefoot boy..that may be Eric too LOL..the second he comes in the door from anywhere the shoes go flying. I dont think its sensory for him; just that he LIKES to go barefoot. (Like his Mom used to). Sorry..this isnt a whole lot of help.. I will bet that he needs the AFOS; you will have battles; you will (eventually ) win. GOOD LUCK

Michele(Kourtney's mom),
I think that you should post your questions about an Amnio on BB, so you will get more on that.
I know that Monique did that and she said that it was not painful.
Good luck to you and please keep us updated.

Jackie, that is so important for new parents to see our kids' pictures. I remember myself when I first saw the Photo Album, I had so much relief that kids with DS are the same as ordinary but more fancy.
My son's PT says that this days people with DS look different than 30 - 50 years ago. Why is that?

WTG Eric!!! Walking.....that is great :) That sounds so much like Raven too....she always holds out during therapy. Makes me crazy sometimes, when I see her do more at home.....lol :) She is getting closer & closer to walking too!!! Last week she was walking holding barely holding on to a bar, with the therapist walking backwards holding onto the bar too!! I had tears in my eyes!! I am really hoping she'll do it by her 5th birthday!! Won't that be a wonderful birthday present!!!

Dolly....Raven has AFO's too. They have been great. She has had them for almost 2 years...& they have made such a difference. She was unable to stand before, now she is almost walking. She has never fought wearing them though...it's almost as if she knows she needs them. I think if Eric is walking OK without them, maybe he doesn't need them?? They are very restrictive, I know there are a lot of PT's that disagree with the use of AFO's. We had a PT that diasgreed with them, but she said in Raven's case, they are a must!! Hope this helps!! :)

Good luck with Weight Watchers Jackie & Emily!!! You can do it!!!! :)

Have a wonderful day Uno Masers!!!!

Awwww Dolly don't it just figure. Cute age I'm there with you. Could you maybe disguise them with a cool pair of socks? Good Luck and bless his little heart that he is walking, how about starting out with the socks with rattles or bells on them so when he walks he can make music too,and then do the same thing with the shoes.
Well I'm still waiting to hear back from a parent advocate I found. I sure hope she has some answers for me. She was suppose to have a meeting with the director of Spec.Ed. this morning and was going to take a copy of my letter with her to show him. Wish me luck I sure could use it.
Michele-WTG Kourtney on talking up a storm. How cute she must sound. As for the amnio never had one, my sister did and she said it wasn't bad, just pressure sensation.

Hello again;
Ain't I the chatty one today....But I have a question:
We just got back from PT..naturally he would NOT walk for his therapist..she had to help him along and he fought her all the way. Last month, we got 'braces" for Eric...his therapist thought they would give him more support for walking. They are just up to his ankles and go in his shoes..made out of hard plastic with velcro straps. Well, Eric absolutely hates them!
Will not even stand up when he has them on. Just sits there and tries to take them off. I have tried 3 different pairs of shoes but nothing helps. It seems the ONLY time he will walk on his own is when he is totally BAREFOOT..no shoes or socks. The therapist thought this is very unusual..I thought it may be a sensory thing..or maybe its as simple as he likes to go
barefoot...Has anyone ever noticed this with their child? I would appreciate any input..thanks, Dolly

Afternoon everyone ! ~~~~
I was wondering if anyone has ever had an AMNIO done before, I am now 8 weeks along and they want to do one around 15 weeks, why so early? Well, I have been one meds. for nerves and other issues and me and the ole' Dr. feel this is the best way to go, I was just wondering if it is painful. Cause you know the doctors never tell you the truth about the pain thing. Still hoping for a boy though, Hope everyone has a FABULOUS day !!!!1
Hugs,
Michele & Kourtney
P.S. My girl is talking like nobody's business here lately and dad and I are SO proud of her I'll post new pics in a couple of days

JACKIE.. i think it's so true ..that maybe fashion in and of itself itsn't the big thing.. but good grooming etc. I DO have a hard time of this with my guy as he could care less what he wears, hates getting his haircut, etc.. but that shouldn't stop me or him. I always have to think when I buy him school clothes as we don't have that much money.. but I want him to look nice..so concerntrate on the "classic " look for his shirt and pants.
AND BTW there was not ONE thing wrong wi/ Emily's dress LOL..okay maybe the ruffles could go LOL..hey!! That's why I concentrate on the "classics" as far as possible.
You are so right w?hen you say the photo album could be püblish´ed in ANY format.. each and every picture is a gem..all the photos are SO wonderful
Finally....GOOD LUCK w/ the Weight Watchers. Hang in there, it's hard work for ANYBODY

Ok..one more thing. I was soo busy yapping that I forgot the REAL reason I was posting. Emily and I need your support..LOL...we have started Weight Watchers. Tomorrow is our first weigh in. We have been very good this week but are not weighing at home so its all up in the air at this point. Emily has been pretty resistant...why I am not sure..but somehow I think she feels she's being cheated. I have also suggested she drink less diet soda which she consumes by the caseload. She writes down everything she eats ...and about mid day we do the points together. I am thinking about having her shop for a neat top that she might be able to get into by the time we go to Vegas again in May....we did this once before and it really worked. She would try it on once a week until if finally fit. Anyhow...hold hands with us thru cyberspace please....Jackie

You all have rung my chimes with your comments on Emilys "fashion"...LOL. I absolutely LOVED my second career as a retailer (the first being an OT). My store was also a "trendy" spot....and I have to confess I was my own best customer...hee hee. I still have people coming up and asking me to do this again...but when I closed about 8 yrs ago the writing was on the wall....all the high fashion money making lines at market were jumping ship and signing on with the discounters...the lease on my shop was going up dramaticly, and I needed knee surgery. But....it was sooo much fun even tho not terribly profitable. I used to joke that it was the only thing that got me thru those challenging teen age years of a large family...I got to escape a couple of times a year sans children and hubby to go to Market in Dallas. Four heavenly days at a time... with other women who were doing exactly the same thing...hee hee. And, the best part was I could justify this. My favorite part was always the baby buying and I saved that for the very last day after taking care of all the other important issues...sort of like dessert. I just loved to coordinate things...you know...blanket gown, booties, etc. that all matched. Ed used to kid me about going to church on Christmas and Easter when I would sit there and make mental notes about how many DUCK DUCK GOOSE kids were walking down the aisles...LOL

And back to my post...Susan, good friend, reminded me how important it was to her early on to realize that our kids didnt have to look like pictures in the textbooks from the 50's...and I agree with her. We all want what is best for our kids...and appearance is all part of that. I think maybe a good way to say this is that we should make sure our kids do the most they can with what they were given. A good example of this is.....if you look at some older women who have DS you see that often they have tight curly perms. I guess the reason being that its easy to take care of...but...you show me the person who REALLY looks good with a very short tight curly perm...and I will be amazed. I think people do this in the often mistaken assumption that this is all the individual can deal with. In Emily's case her appearance is markedly enhanced with just a touch of make up...but...most of the time she refuses to take the time. She now knows when she absolutely should make the effort and I dont have to even suggest it to her anymore.

I guess everything is relative. I am at the point in life now when appearance doesnt much to me...I do notice though...good grooming. When we go to national conferences I am much more intrigued by personable outgoing individuals. You know..we all love our kids sooo much that we just want it ALL for them...so perhaps it would have been better to just thank Jenny for the VERY NICE compliment and keep my big mouth shut on this subject. Our Photo Album here is FILLED with beautiful children...Each month could be a calendar that people would buy.

Anyone see that HBO show last night?
And Dolly! Woo-hoo! You have a walker! Meri is so close, I think like in other stuff, she's holding out on us!
Wow, Jackie had ANOTHER career???I've lost track woman!Maybe you could tie them all together & paint your own fabrics for clothes???
MichelleMcC....I really don't remember if I ever sent my Christmas card...i sure hope there was one from us in there....things got so outta hand...first I ran outta stamps, then printer paper...then envelopes
Well...I'm waiting to hear from Meri's caseworker to turn in a FSS wishlist for this quarter...we're trying for either the mini trap with handlebar or the swinging bridge attachment for the outdoor play structure.

jazzed! We go to pt today and I can't wait to tell his

so thrilled..I'm glad Eric did it when Dad was home too. We all had to clap and cheer each time he took steps...he's quite the "HAM". Well, gotta go get him

Hi all,
Happy Martin Luther King Day...I was just discussing with my son how different the world might be today if he wasn't taken so early. I wish we had some leaders like him now.

Jackie, as always I love your messages !! Have you written a book yet for us ?? It has been awhile since I have posted so I thought maybe I missed the news ! You know we all need it ! Thanks for always being the calm voice of reason. But may I just say that we won't be taking fashion advice from you !! Just kiddig !!! I think I have one of those dresses in my closet, too... next to my legwarmers and torn "flashdance" sweatshirts !!

Traci... Erin was a huge mouther, too !! A couple of things worked for us... though nothing STOPPED the mouthing !! A bumble ball.... plastic with little knobs on it... it bounces ans shakes.... Erin LOVED it so much she broke 3 of them !!! SHe would hold it on her face and her whole body would be shaking, but she couldn't get enough of it.... and it "replaced" the chewing. The other thing ... not quite as jolting as the bumble ball was a Star Teether... they have them at Walmart & Toys R US... I own about 5 I think !!! They are plastic with a star on top that vibrates when you bite it. Eirn is such a sensor-seeker that she alwyas has something in her mouth or banging against her face. I think time will mature her system so that she won't need the constant input, until then I think all you can do is provide suitable things for her to mouth and if she gets enough direct feedback from it she may not be seeking it so much.

You guys.. all the photos in the album are so awesome... I couldn't even begin to name names for fear that I would forget someone !! That is my favorit part of this site.

Take care all !
Allisa

JENNY: Welcome to Uno Mas! You will love it here! I have met some of the most wonderful parents on earth here! Please post often, and let us get to know you and your adorable little girl. She is a cutie! We also have a chat room where we get together every Sunday and Thursday night around 9:30 eastern time. Please join us and chat! ! !
I think that you and I have a few things in common.....although, sigh I am a FEW years older. I also have 4 children. Three boys, and one wonderful little girl who has Down syndrome. She is 11 years old(can that be possible???)and is absolutely the light of my life!
~
I just showed the pictures of Jackie's Emily at age 11 to my own Emily and asked her "Who is that pretty girl"? Her face lit up, and she said "That's ME"!!! LOL I'm sure she was wondering...."How come I do not remember having that picture taken"????? Too funny. I guess they do look a bit alike!

JACKIE: I love those pics of Emily from 1992..I remember those dresses quite well. We used to have a childrens specialty store called "Zoodles". Very unique and "pricey" outfits...very, very, in style. I bought my Megan (now almost 20yrs.) a few outfits from there. Brought back memories...
Speaking of memories, my hubby bought me this old-fashioned turn-table (for albums and 45 records...i have quite a collection). Eric and I spent the afternoon "gettin-down with the oldies". "Born to be Wild, Brown-eyed girl, Hello-I love you, Close to you,
we just danced our little hearts out! My older daughter thinks we're crazy, but it was fun! Didn't get much housework done, but hey, it'll be there tomorrow... Dolly

Ok now...I feel compelled to give another Mama Jack comment or two...LOL....Jenny I know you are pretty new at this game so please dont take offense. I think its pretty "normal" the first few months of having a child with DS to make comparisons...and to tell you the truth, you will probably be making comparisons in some ways all your life. But the fact of the matter is that all of our children have DS......and that DS will never go away. With DS comes a set of physical characteristics and possible medical problems...this is what makes it a syndrome. Rarely does a child have all of them...some may have only a few...others many more. In fact most of the general population who do not have DS have many of these physical characteristics. I know, how important in the first year of life or two it is to some people what the "packaging" of their child looks like....however, as you and Jaylie venture down the path on your marvelous journey...you will come to find out that the "packaging" seldom reveals the person inside. Now, dont get me wrong, I think that as parents we should all do the same things we would do for our other children in terms of enhancing the positive....but I dont think it should be our only focus. We all have days when our children look better than others...just as we Moms certainly have our "Bad Hair" days. I have a ton of pics of MY Emily that would make you gag...LOL....and like any other proud parent ...WON'T be posting those...(she would have my head on a platter if I did for sure...LOL). I feel this is also a good time to share with you and the group something that I am not very proud of that happened to me recently...
I have told you there is a new DS group formed here and I told them I would not be attending as I was not too happy with Emily's appearance at the moment. She is very very overweight and I was afraid if the parents of young children who had heard a lot about her accomplishments met her...they would lose some hope..and dreams that her stories have given them. A day later I found my heart and my usually upbeat nature...dragging on the floor...and realized I was not practicing what I have so often preached. I too was focusing on Emilys current packaging....not her as a person. So I called and apologized for shortchanging Emily..and said of course we would be there!!!!

I think we all have times when we look at our children and just do NOT SEE the DS....(just as I can look into MY mirror and see the thin person that is hiding deep inside of me...LOL) We have discussed that often here before. There is really no correlation between appearance and ability...I am sure some others on this site can express this far more eloquently than I can. But...thank you for your compliment...and I DO think Emily is the most beautiful person on earth...and imagine you feel the same way about your little Jaylie.....(ps...if any of my other daughters are reading this...you are also the most beautiful child on earth.)

Hi everyone. I haven't posted here in a very long time...too long. Zachary, my son with DS, is turning 4 on Friday. I am a single mama, working full time and in school full time so I don't have a ton of contact with other parents of children with DS. I am feeling a little disconnected right now. Zach is doing great. He is progressing so well and such a joy. I have him in preschool with speech and he loves it. Well, just wanted to reintroduce myself and say hi to everyone.
God Bless.

BOTH ARE VERY PRETTY GIRLS AND WOULD LOVE MY DAUGHTER TO GROW UP TO BE THAT PRETTY!!!! I POSTED A PICTURE OF HER BUT IT HASNT SEEMED TO COME UP YET BUT HOPEFULLY EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE HER SOON. SHE IS 6 MONTHS OLD AND MY ONLY DAUGHTER, I HAVE THREE BOYS. SO IT IS GREAT FOR ME TO SEE SUCH "NORMAL" LOOKING DS GIRLS. IT GIVES ME SUCH HOPE FOR HER FUTURE!!

OK...just found two pics from the early 90's of Emily...and posted them...The one in the plaid dress was a dress rehersal for an ad we shot of her for my children's store. Yes I wore another hat 10 years ago...had a neat store called Duck Duck Goose and I featured Emily from time to time as well as some other kids with disabilities in my advertising. The dress she has on makes me laugh now...but it was VERY IN in its day...LOL...and pretty pricey. And...NO ...I dont miss being in retail...hard..hard work. It may be awhile before you see them...apparently we are a bit behind on the photo board.

No the two emilys are not one and the same....LOL.... MY Emily is the one with the new doooo ...and is 22...the other Emily is Susan's daughter ..and is half MY Em's age. Yes...the two Em's at age 11 could have passed for sisters...I will post some way back pics when I figure out this scanner....Somewhere there are great pics of the older Emily when we took her to London...she was just Susans daughter's age. I will begin a hunt....Jackie

Awwww Robin I sure hope your back feels better real soon we miss you. Sorry about Dave's fish maybe it was Chases' way of getting daddy to take him fishing. Well gonna scoot for now and go get Mr. Justin he is in one of his bursts mode, he is catching on to more and more signs and has mastered putting his coat on. Now when we put ours on he goes and gets his shoes and gets into the closet and pulls his coat down-so much for the plastic hangers. Since Chuck called off today to do my brakes (yeah right) maybe I can get him to make up some little steps for Justin.

Poor Dave is so sad:-( he loves those fish maybe more then us..or should I say lovED. Hurt my back somehow and cant stand to sit but will try to get back later..missed chat last night cause we had a house full ..it was so wonderful to have that! Havent seen my brother for two years and he showed up with his family :-)
I see we have a couple of new people...welcome! I wil give you a proper welcome when I am able to sit longer but to the mom with the older son..do you have a ARC in your comunity? They do alot here with older people with DS here. Also maybe call mental health and see what they ahve to offer you? We have programs here and respite money, alos a few trained individuals to help give you respite. Crossing my fingers for you.
And to the other mom, I am sorry I forgot both your names, trying to watch Chase not get into anything and type... he also was a chewer but it stopped on its own..right about the time he started grinding his teeth!
ok got to go..huggers everyone,

Hi Uno Masers :) It sure is cold here in Ohio....hasn't been this cold in years!! One of New Year's resolutions is to post more on the message board. So far this month, I am failing miserably!! lol So, I am going to try to make up for lost time!!! The girls keep me so very busy, though!!

Raven has yet another cold....soon to be sinus infection :( Guess it is that time of year. She has shared her cold with her 2 younger sisters, so we have a very cranky household. So much for sleep...lol.

Traci....I wish I had some advice for you too. Raven is 4 1/2 & still chews a lot. She has graduated to chewing on her sleeves of her shirt. Being so cold, I am reluctant to put short sleeves on her. Her OT at school pins a rubber straw to her shirt & when she needs to chew...redirects her to that. We also have a nuk chew that she sometimes uses. She seems to really need to "chew" when she has a cold or sinus infections, so I wonder if she is relieving some pressure. Good luck :)

Well, time to go.....the girls are done with lunch!! Hope you all have a wonderful day!! :)

Hi everyone,
I have been missing in action for awhile. Marissa is battling the winter respitory infection that seems to start in December and go all the way until May. They started her on a new inhaler it has not helped and now she is more grouchy than ever so back to the drawing board on that one. She is making strides in many areas but CUP or straw drinking UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In school she refuses to do things that she has been doing for months it can make you really crazy at times. I have embarked on a self-improvement program and am trying to get my life back in order. Thinking of trying for another sometime this summer but still scared out of my mind. HOpe all is well. I have missed you all and your stories. I to am thankful for this very wonderful village it has been a real lifesaver for me over these past few months and I have passed it on to several others who were in need of place where they could find a family that understands them.
Talk to you all soon Risa

Welcom Traci, Sorry no words of wisdom here for I am going through the same thing with Justin. He has chewed 4 of his crib mattresses and is now in a regular twin bed. He puts everything in his mouth including shoes ewwwwwww. We just keep telling him no and taking it away. His teacher seems to think he is missing something and suggested we try a battery operated toothbrush but so far that isn't working either so if you come across something that works let me know.
Ok Heather I tried to send you the cheat sheet but my e-mail account is messed up right now so I will try again tomorrow.

Hello, I am new to the message board but have put my childrens pictures on the site for over a year now!! I need HELP....OR GOOD ADVICE, but will tell a little about myself first. My name is Traci Williams, I am married to Mike for nine years. We have 3 children...Spenser 8 years old, Ashlyn 3 (DS) and Mason 22 months(horrible two's).
Okay I need someone who is there now or who has been there and has suggestions on what to do!! My Ashlyn LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to put everything in her mouth, and I do mean everything. I swear she was a billy goat in another life. She absolutely loves to eat paper (her favorite), stickers, strings, etc, etc. We do the heimlich (sp?) a couple of times a week on this girl. A little about her...she had infantile spasms (a type of seizures that lasted for long periods of time all day, every day) from 4 months old until she was 1 1/2. So her doctors say "look at her as a 2 year old with Downs," because she lost a year of her life. So okay, she is a 2 year old with Downs..when will she stop putting everything in her mouth? Does the madness end soon? Also, she isn't walking alone yet. She does pull up and cruise around the furniture though. I am at my wits end with this silly girl!! She thinks it is sooo funny!! She isn't chewing well either, so when she steals her younger brother's WHOLE peanut butter cracker and tries to swallow it whole, it is not too fun trying to dig that out of her throat either!! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! P.s. I love reading the funny stories you guys have about your kids!! I have some about this silly girl too!! Hopefully I can join in soon. It has been a tearful, joyous 3 1/2 years so far and gets sweeter every day!

Martha....Welcome to UnoMas.
You may want to register and log in to the Bulletin Board section of this site for help with your question.
That will give you the opportunity to expand on the specifics of the area in which you live, what you would like to see for your son Sam, and then see the replies to those questions.
Good Luck!

Michelle Mc - there really isn't anything that can be said that would not be redundant, but let me add my 2 cents worth anyway. Thank you thank you thank you for creating this village. When I first discovered it, it was like meeting family members for the first time. They were people that you knew existed, but you just never had the opportunity to connect with them. And once the initial contact was made, it was like coming home. Thanks again for the absolutely amazing job that you have done in providing a forum for this family.

I was glad to to see Cheri post - Jackosn's teach -- Hi! So nice that you take the time & interest in Jackson that you do --- our kids can be little stubborn stinkers can't they??!! Ralph & I just had a splendid weekend as one of the Sp Ed teachers we met over the summer, & we have become really close to, took all 3 of our kids Fri and then she came back & took 'em again Sat nite!! She is just wonderful with all of the kids! It's the first time Ralph & I have had a night alone together in probably 6 years!! We went out to dinner & the movies & didn't have to worry about coming home late! Soooo nice!

Well gotta get going - been lax on doing "my chores" the last couple of days -- just wanted to say "Hi!"
Oh & Michelle Mc -- Like "Mama" Jackie (Em's Mom)I am also NOT one of the ones who stuffed your PO Box w/ cards - BUT I DO want to be one of the ones to thank you for this site!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!! Thanks from the bottom of our hearts!!

Have a great Sunday all! Our friend may take the kids again tonite (is she crazy or what??!) since there is no school tomorrow - so can't promise I'll be in chat but may stop by if I get a moment!

I drove by there every day for over a week when my mom was in the hospital and wanted to go SO bad! I ended up just going to the gift shop to look for souveniers. There is a Baja Fresh right down the street...can you run by there and eat some chicken tacos for me? I LOVED that place!!! I hope you have a WONDERFUL time.

Morning all;
Another cold one...brr.. Nice talking to some of you
last night. I can't wait to meet everyone and their kids. My hubby "chalked" off the basement for the re-
modeling project...it looks like a crime scene! We have a contractor coming over tonite to give us some ideas and estimates. With a grandbaby coming, we could use the extra space, since they will be living with us for a time. I guess I'll have to get another "jail" for the newbie...Lol..I'm not ready to "spring" Eric out of his yet. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Program to watch for next week!
A friend across the pond brought my attention to a program that will be on HBO next week. It is called
"GRADUATING PETER". I'm in the central time zone and it's showing on HBO or Direct TV (dish) at 9:30 - 11.
The show description reads "a young man with Down Syndrome graduates from high school".
My friend has seen it already.
Just thought all you Mums and Dads would like some advance notice of the program. But please check your TV guides for exact times in your area.
Hugs to all!

Hello unomas land!!!

Robin - Just want to say on the eye surgery...My little man, Gray has relly bad eye sight and I know surgery is not an option until he's over 18 and has stopped growing unless it would be surgery to correct a balance problem (keep his eyes from crossing).

Steff -- OH MY!!! Little Liv's hair I love it short!!! She looks so angelic!!

I was wondering Steffy...do you think our children could be helped with their eyes by corrective surgery?? I have been wondering that for a while now. I know adults that have gotten it done and love the fact they no longer have to wear glasses. I guess when Chase goes back for his next appt... I will have to ask that question. Hugs to all and I hope everyone's day is sunny, both inside and outside :-)

HI!!!!! Thanks for all the comments on Livs new hair. WOW I am lovin the washing of the hair these days...WHATTA RELIEF!!!

Michelle Mc.....Thanks to YOU for making this site possible.. I can't believe I have been coming here for soo long. I believe Susan and I discovered Uno Mas at about the same time....ONE of these days i AM gonna meet ya.... :) Now you are a girl I'd like to meet!!!! I too jackie was a complete computer illiterate...BUT your site motivated me and the people here taught me how to use it. THANKFULLY Susan taught me how to CUT and PASTE LONG AGO...LOL.. Thanks Susan... ;)I never knew you could do that SILLY ME!!!!!Give casey a HUG and we will be around your neck of the woods Sunday!!!! AND YIKES I am taking 4 kids and myself to camp Snoopy Saturday. Am I losing it or what!!!I'll tell ya saturday night...((HUGS))) to you for all that you have given to ME!!!!

OKAY!!! I actually got Olivia an eye appt for today. She had to miss school but hey she will be getting her new specs soon. GOOD thing we did go. MAN.. Her eyes are worse. She is sooo VERY farsighted. Her vision is 7.0 in both eyes. I joked with Jeff on the phone today that we're gonna hafta start saying "OLIVIA WHAT BIG EYES YOU HAVE" LOLOL...The doc said no cataracts but a disc?? in her right eye is MUCH larger than the left. he wants to see her in a year to check what is up with that. Now liv wears her glasses great. She wakes up and asks for em first thing(even before food!!! LOL). The doc said that her farsightedness getting worse so quickly has nothing to do with anything she or we are doing JUST that's Liv... cause man she wears em right up to the time she hits the sack...GEEZ now I know why her schoolwork is sooo frustrating to her(partly cause she doesn't like to do it) cause her precription is too weak. Her last script was 5.5 and 6.0 in the other eye...

Hmmm what else is up??? Oh yea Livs newest thing to do in school is to hide in the closet when she doesn't wanna do something..LOL..OOPS!!!Well I am off to bed. My dads retirement party is tomorrow night. HMMM lets see I hafta watch another child after school take him home then my kids to my pals then I was elected to give a speech in front of 50 people. THANKFULLY they are my family. BUT STILL... LOL.. Must go write Nighty night

MICHELLE Mc...I am not one of the wonderful people who stuffed your mailbox...but I wish I had been. I too am really greatful for this site...but more than that....besides all the wonderful people I have met here...I have LEARNED to use my computer. The first time I surfed the net of course I typed in DOWN SYNDROME...and this is the first site that came up. I remembered meeting you at a conference where you had set up an UNO MAS booth...so out of curiosity read here....of course like everyone else I was hooked....but I didnt have the skills then to figure out how to do anything and was absolutely terrified that cyberspace was just waiting to eat me up!!!!! But little by litte I got my cyberlegs and friends here talked me thru lots of the technical parts...I am like others here...I wish you could find more time in your busy life to post....but...please please know that our WHOLE FAMILY loves you...its not unusual for Ed at the dinner table ...after asking if I have heard from our kids...to also say..."and what is new today on UNO"....LOL.....lots of love from all of us...Jackie

Michele MC---That made tears run down my cheeks. How wonderful, but if it weren't for you we would not have this wonderful place to come.
I wanted to let all of the rest of you know that Kourtney and Kaylyn will be getting a new baby brother or sister around Sept. I just found out and ....Wish me luck

Michelle Mc.. personally I think your postal box, your email and your heart should be overflowing with love and thanks from everyone here at Uno Mas. I have visited some other parent support group boards. None have ever come close to creating the kind of place where people feel...not just l ike posters; but COMMUNITY.
The Uno Mas Village YOUR vision and creativity has created is, I think, a model for any on line support group. Pat yourself a big one on the back,, bust your buttons , swell with pride.. you deserve it all!! The only teeny tiny complaint I have is that you do not post enough. We WANT to hear from you Michelle!!!

Just got back from our OT review for the year. Lewis is doing FINE (pardon the pun) and has achieved all his goals for last year plus more. The only thing she wants him to work on for this term so far is matching, ie; colors, shapes etc..... which all seems a bit advanced for him but if that is what she reckons he is ready for then I guess that is what we will work on....if I can get hm interested.. LOL...

Just wanted to let everyone know.. I have made up an album of a few of my holiday snaps and you can see them at...
www.itsmyhouse.com/tammyshouse
and click on the car.

Michelle.... the enormity of this site is incredible. I am soooo far away from everyone over there.... but I feel like I know everyone as if they were my neighbors. I LOVE coming here. I must say THANKYOU for doing such a wonderful job.

Gotta be going..... things to do......
Mangoes to eat......

Until next time...
Tammy.

I got a call from the post office today. A friendly voice said " Hi Michelle. I just need to know if you want to renew your PO box this year. Your renewal notice has been sitting in there for several weeks" I told her that it doesn't get much action, so I don't check it very often., but that I definitely wanted to keep it, and I'd bring down a check today. She said "Well, you'd better get down here and pick up your Christmas cards!" I thought "Huh? You mean 'pick up your junk mail' right?"
When I opened the tiny door to my PO box, it practically exploded with red, green and white envelopes. No ads or junkmail... they must have weeded all that out to make room for the good stuff. It was packed full of an outpouring thoughtfulness that overwhelmed me beyond description.
Oh my gosh. I can't put in words how wonderful it felt to read all those cards, see all those beatiful pictures of your families and just look at the return addresses from all over the country... OK, MI, ID, TN, VA, NM, UT, IN, NE, IA, IL, CA, OH, LA, AL, NY, MI, OK, IA, NE, OR,HA, AZ, WA, NV, PA, NJ, TX ... I sat in the parking lot reading them all with tears in my eyes and a feeling of happiness that I can't describe. I just want to thank you all for your thoughtfulness and for reminding me how much I enjoy being a part of this website.
Thank You!!
Michelle

Hi All. Loooong time not talk. I don't even recognize alot of the names but it's good to see so many new people. Just wanted to say Hi to Jenn and Robin and MissyMagoo, and I miss Radonna, and AliceLuke. I posted a pic (we are #70). Jameson is doing great. He started walking, he is getting tubes in his ears next tues and we decided to let him go to school 2x a week for 3 hours. We checked it out and it's half kids with disabilities and 1/2 not. It's through United Cerebal Palsy charter school so it is covered under our early intervention so we dont have to pay for it. I wanted to get him some socialization skills since he is only home with me and Jasmine , his 8 mos old sis, all day. **sniff, sniff** I cant beleive my little boy is growing up! I am so proud of him and us that we all got to this point now! We are going to buy him a little racecar bed next and get him out of his crib. Hopefully, he will just flourish with kids around him. I hope you all are doing good. I have been lurking around here an awful lot but just havnt had time to really participate much. Still love you all for all your support and help. And to all the Newbies........this is the best place for positive energy!!
Happy New year to you all!!

Jackie, I'll have to check, but I am sure my daughter has one of those special combs for that nifty part. (she is a 22 year old princess with all of the accessories!) I'm pretty sure she got it at the beauty supply shop. She just went in and described what she wanted, and voila! I'll check with her tonight and post when I find out!
Cheri
p.s. Jackson is having a bout of stubborness!! Imagine that! He refused to sit down at the snack table today in kindergarten. . .layed on the floor until we "helped" him up. . .then the little ... refused to eat snack. It was cookies!!! He LOVES cookies! I could see him set his jaw and just plain refuse! So he went without snack today :( How sad for him! He's usually not too stubborn, and can be easily redirected. . .I guess he's trying on stubborn to see how it fits! He ate a really good lunch at noon!!!

Well, just have to say I love ALL the pics, just can't list them all! What beautiful kids we have.

DEBORAH: How about a little bit of hair spray? I don't have trouble with static in Em's hair or in mine...but on my clothes! And if I spray a little hair spray on my clothes, or on my socks underneath....it takes away the static! A "friend" at work said that ALL aerosol sprays can work, and she suggested that I use the only thing at hand one day---LYSOL spray. Hmmmmm. Well, I did it and it worked!
~
I guess I should stop complaining about our cold weather here....cause it is only 21 here, and that sounds like a heat wave compared to Chicago! I just heard that it is going to be 80degrees in Los Angeles today. I've GOT to go and visit Steff and my mom!
~
Have a great day everyone and don't forget CHAT tomorrow night at 8:30pm central time.

I am having an awful time with static in Jennifer's hair. Does anyone have any solutions for this fly away mess?? I tried wiping her hair with a bounce dryer sheet..it worked for about 10 min. Or is this something I have to deal with until spring???

Good morning from chilly Illinois. It is only 6 degrees here right now and I am not enjoying this. I can't wait until spring!

I had to go check out the photo album after reading all the comments and it is so true~we do have the cutest kids!

Steff~I LOVE Olivia's hair cut. That child has the most gorgeous hair color. Can I bring her to the salon with me next time so I can tell them to give me her color?

Annie M ~Could Mikey look any more grown up? And Zach just looks too adorable in his school picture. I am going to email you with specific dates to choose from for us to get together. This is because I am so bad at saying we have to get together and then not finding a specific date. So watch for that email!

Patrick is doing well since his adnoids were removed. However, he is more congested then ever! His nose has a constant stream of goop coming out of it. My Dh says it's too soon after the adnoids came out to be expecting that to have cleared up already but I'm disappointed. I was really hoping this would help with some of the congestion. Another thing with this child is that he is starting to only want to eat American cheese and it's driving me nuts. He wakes up in the morning and walks to the refridgerator saying "key key"(his word for cheese). I've had to hide the cheese and tell him it's all gone. This is a boy who used to eat anything for me :(

Alright~I have to go get Patrick ready for speech~I just want to hibernate and not go outside for the rest of today (or winter for that matter!) Have a great day everyone!

Mary L.

Gramma Joan: Thank you for your welcome. I would like to know more about you and Zoe. Where in Canada do you live? My grandfather's family are all from Ontario -Toronto, Hamilton, etc. I have spent much time in Canada and love it.Our sons have caught many a Canadian fish as they were growing up.
Jenna is doing well at the moment. No more feeding tube thank goodness. She is nice and chubby and has rosy cheeks. She was born with Tetralogy of Fallot and a complete AV canal. She has had one surgery to put a BT shunt in place. Since then she has done very well. Her OHS will be done sometime within the next few months. She is a delight for all of us as I am certain your Zoe is. If you have any suggestions for grammas please pass them on. This is all very new to me so I am open to any and all suggestions and information.
I look forward to hearing from you again.Rosemary

Hi everyone...
Tammy..LOLOL, call me a dork..I knew shrimp were called prawns, just forgot for the moment ;-) I sure would love fresh prawns right about now..in mango sauce or not. LOL about the mangoes...how about making mango jam or jelly???? I have never eaten one in my life so I dont know if it would work or not but they use every other kind of fruit for that so why not mangoes??? Hurry up with the pics :-)
Dolly...LOL to Eric's picture taking..the window down was a brilliant idea I thought!!! ;-) Cant wait to see them!
Jackie...20 degrees? That sounds like a dream come true, it hasnt gotten over 10 today and that is without the wond chill brrrrr, I wish it would snow to cover all that ugly brown, and I dont mean like the snow they got in upper NY ( 4 feet)..yikers! I just mean a couple inches or so. That or bring on summer..I cant take any more cold barren landscape. I am longing for the flowers, sunshine, warm weather and green grass.
Chase also has always had poor fine motor skills. He struggles with his writing so much but he has decided he likes it I guess as he is writing every word he sees in the house lately..all the canned goods and box goods are not safe from him right now..he is taking everything out of cubboards and copying books also ;-)
Man, I love this kid, even when he is bad ( just not as much) he can be the sweetest and funniest child one second and a demon the next. This morning he hit me when I told him it was time for school ( yes he got into BIG trouble) and five minutes later when we pulled up to the school, he kept attacking me with kisses and wouldnt let me out of the car, LOL! What a brat :-)
Ok time to get some work done. I hope you all have a great day, hugs,
Robin

LOL ROBIN !!!
Yes Becky..... I forget the language differences sometimes... Prawns ARE shrimp....BIG ones.
One of our towns main industries is fishing and we get fresh prawns off the boats as they come in during the prawning season. Prawns are finished now so I am using my stock of frozen ones until may when they start up again.
Right now it is Crayfish season...(Like Lobster with no claws) YUMMMMMMM........
And Mangoes...... I have SOOOOO many mangoes at the moment I dont know what to do with em all. I have peeled sliced and frozen heaps, I have put some in the dehydrator and made some fruit leather, we have had mango sauce on just about everything we have eaten... not to mention just sitting outside and peeling and eating fresh mangoes..... YUMMMM....
If anyone has ANY good mango recipes... I would appreciate them !!
I have been on this computer for 3 hours so far trying to get up a website with some of my holiday snaps....it just seems to take too long so I am giving up for today... try again tomorrow.....
Also Hubby just phoned and advised me we are having the boss and someone else over for a BBQ tonight.... great, now I have to clean the house..........
Must be going.....
Bye for now....
Tammy.
