WOW ROBIN.. How exciting! Chases is really growing up:^)I think I'd be smiling for at least a week for that!! I'm thrilled for you and Chase. Just wait to see what he's going to do this year:^)
There's hope for my adventurous one too./?
Today John-John took the sprayer from the sink and put so much water on the kitchenette floor it was going down into the kitchen beneath through the cabinet. I saw water dripping from the cabinet but just cleaned it up. It never struck me it was coming from upstairs. I don't know why because water does not normally come down my cabinets :/ I guess it's been a busy week. Kids getting up in the middle of the night, birthday parties, & day at the shore yesterday. John-John loves the water NO FEAR! He calls the Atlantic Ocean "pool", come to think about it he calls the beach "box" as in sand box. What an imagination.

I am so excited, Chase went on his first ever over nighter at a friend's house (with his aide of course) and it turned into a camping trip and get this...tubing down the river!!!! His aide said he did great and he came home so full of smiles!!!!! He also met a couple with a three wheeled bike and they let him ride it and ride it and he loved it so maybe it is time for me to break down and think about a three wheeled bike for him. His tone is so low and I know unless there is a miracle he wont be riding a two wheeled bike so maybe I need to give up my dream of him riding a two wheeler due to his tone, and let him have a three wheeler. Anyoleways.....they had a camp fire, roaster ht dogs and marshmallows and made smores, swam in the pool at the camp site, played in the hot tub at the camp site and was adored by all his aide said:-D She said there was alot of older people at the camp grounds.....for some reason it just happened that way but they all were so great with Chase and his friend Drew who is 14 and has DS, stopping to talk and visit with them all night. They got up yesterday morning and went tubing for two and a half hours down the Rifle river, who would of ever thought he would do that!!!!!! I have a smile on my face the size of texas! I was sure he would never do a sleep over let alone camping and tubing!!!! Ahhhh, I am so happy for my boy!
hugs, Robin
PS almost forgot...we did the ortho dr visit and Chase has to get special orthopedic shoes for his feet and wear them almost nonstop except for sleeping and the dr will see him back in three months. Unfortunately I was right and his feet and ankles are affecting his knees and hips, the whole range of motion thing, because his tone has gotten so low. If this doenst work the dr said there are a variety of things to try. He was a great dr, loved Chase and played the whole time with him while discussing options with us.

I use pear or strawberry nectar and it always works.
Kyle also had duodenal atresia and had the surgery the morning after he was born. He is now 20 months and isnt constipated all the time but a good share. The nectar always works and fast.
Hope it works for you.

Hi!
Hope all is well out there is UnoLand! I'm just taking a quick breather for myself before I start trying to put my house back together for the next round of company. In the last 3 weeks I've had 4 different sets of house guests!!! Now mind you I'm really not complaining but it is getting a little overwhelming at this point! One set left about a half hour ago, a good friend since middle school days and her 4 sons ages 6 - 12.5 yrs old visited for 4 days and then late this afternoon my Mom and youngest sister are coming to visit for 4 days!!! I'll be changing beds and doing laundry and then heading off to work this evening! They'll leave Sunday afternoon and I will have no company for a whole week!!!!
~
Susan shared the picture she was talking about of Robin and Maria on the "roller coaster" with me one night while chatting. Zach really is just a tiny little bit of a guy sitting behind them!!! Sorry Robin and Maria but based on that picture ( which doesn't show any of the "hills" so I could be wrong!!!) I definitely have to agree with Robin, y'all were on a baby ride!!! I think Susan should post the link to the website showing that ride!!!
Okay, I think I stirred that little pot up well enough for now!
~
Take care everyone & I'm hoping to make chat tonite so talk to those of you who make it there later!

Hello Unoland!!!

Well, last night I went to a DS meeting in Indy and low and behold who do I run into while parking....Donnita, Cassie and Marissa. All I have to say is Cassie (while still a peanut) is getting so big and both of the girls are so pretty!!!

Maria -- Well I was wrong...I do have to admit the hills on the Son of Beast are bigger than bumps in the road but the Beastie (which you and Robin road)...heck I've hit bigger pot holes than that. I really really think Susan should post that picture!!!!

Hello to all the newbies and welcome...While I don't post that often...this is a wonderful site with a lot of great people and wonderful advice.

Hugs to all,
Connie

Kristie, what do the bites look like? If they're tiny, firm, red bumps, it could be spider bites - they're pretty itchy. I hope they're not too bad! This actually happened to a friend of mine with her daughter once; she was waking up with new bites every morning, my friend stripped the bed and was cleaning the mattress and found a little spider.

Hello,
I made a film titled "Duo" a few years ago while attending NYU film school. "Duo" is about a boy with Down syndrome who falls in love with a violinist and her music. The film won many awards, mainly thanks to the incredible performance by its lead actor, my brother Stephane, who has Down Syndrome. Co-starring as the violinist is Eden Riegel, who was recently nominated for an Emmy Award for her role as Bianca in "All my Children". Duo was an official entry at the 23rd Student Academy Awards and a finalist at the 1996 Chicago International Children's Film Festival. It was produced with the cooperation of Martin Scorsese and Warner Bros. Pictures. I just finished putting Duo on DVD and it looks and sounds better than ever, now in Dolby Digital 5.1 and with French and Spanish subtitles! Stephane is doing great. Actually, he just graduated from high-school and got an office job right away! I have included a short video of his graduation ceremony in the DVD, and a commercial spot featuring Stephane. For more information, pictures, and a trailer of "Duo", please go to the following address: ,

or email me at alex@agprods.com or alex@ginnsz.com.
Have a great day,
Alex

Hello,
Jennifer, Legg-perthes- the ball in Courtney's hip deteriated (sp?). It was almost completely gone, The Dr. showed us the x-rays. It has now almost completely grown back, but it takes a long time (years). Sometimes a hip replacement is needed but our Dr. says he thinks Courtney will not need any surgery, if she does it wouldn't be until she was in her 40's or 50's. She is doing well though, walks with a bit of a limp because the leg has shortened. Hope this helps.
Susan, How was Emily's birthday? A teenager WOW! That is coming right up for Courtney, December.
Courtney is going for a sleep over birthday party this weekend and I am already having a hard time with that. She is really excited about it though. She wonders during the night though and I worry about her going outside. I know she will be fine and have a good time but I can't help but worry.
Well I have to go and get Courtney into bed.
Night All

Steff - Hope Liv is OK! BTW - I looked at my mom's #s today and it seems her LFTs are 10 times normal (3 months ago they were perfect, with-in normal limits) -- there is a spot on her pancreas and the doc's are 99% certain that it's cancer. So, I guess that was the cause for the increased #s....there is nothing in her liver though, so hopefully they have caught it early enough, although I know too well what we are facing.
Anyways - hope that little girl of yours is feeling better soon!

Dolly, we haven't tried a biopsy yet. The barium study was a small bowel follow through that we did because Aaron was born with an intestinal defect and has had 2 small bowel surgeries. The constipation could have been a sign of another blockage (yikes) but thankfully that wasn't the case. I will ask the GI doc about Hirschprung's though - I hope it's just constipation but better to rule everything out.
Thanks for the info on mineral oil Steff - I'll stick to the Karo!

hI! Thanks for the well wishes for Liv. Hmmm. she did go to the gym with me oday and all of a sudden her nose just started bleeding like crzy. Never done that before. Someone at the gym suggested dry weather???
The post regarding constipation... kerns nectars especially pear and peach for my girl. NEVER give your child mineral oil though. Liv was given mineral oil fior her constipation after barium lower gi was done and no hirschsprungs. They just told me to give her a tsp a day. WELL my girl started breathing strangely after drinking the oil(i mixed it with stuff) and BLAM she got sickas a dog . She aspirated the oil. And spent 2 weeks at UCLA. They had to suction her lungs out 3 times a day and I even had to do it once.just a warning Oil in the lungs in a BIG scary thing I would forgo that remedy.

Megan,
Have they ever done a biopsy? I see they did a barium enema. Were they checking for Hirshsprung's Disease? I only asked because my Eric had Hirshsprungs
and had chronic constipation. He wasn't diagnosed till he was about 1yr. old. The barium enema they did at birth was ok, so they didn't follow up with a biopsy of the bowel. You might want to ask your doc about it. It sounds like it might be constipation, but you can never be sure. Good Luck...Dolly

Steff- I wonder if she has a sinus infection? I actually have one now and my left side of my face is killing me. My brother had one and he also had a bad tooth. The infection made his mouth hurt.
Meg(?) My Abigael had the same problem with constipation. Her PT (who also has a son w/downs) told me that it is sometimes caused by the low muscle tone in the stomach.
I hope that everyone feels better soon.

I need some help! I'm new to this site, and I see some other posts re: chronic constipation, so hopefully I can compare notes with some of you. My son Aaron, 15 months, has been constipated for about 4 months now. We've tried everything from increased fiber (prunes, apricots, pears, etc.), increased juice, Little Tummies laxative drops, Karo syrup, mineral oil, eliminating certain foods (yogurt, bananas, rice cereal) and are still forced to use suppositories - Aaron is in terrible pain when he passes stools and actually tries to hold them in. He cries so much, and sometimes his stools are so hard/dry that they cause rectal bleeding. It's breaking my heart seeing him in so much pain! He was born with duodenal atresia which he had surgery for at 4 days old, so we saw his surgeon and did a barium x-ray and ruled out an instestinal obstruction, so now we're scheduled to see a GI specialist next week. Whenever we meet a new specialist (it happens pretty often) I try to arm myself with as much info as possible, so any you who have been through this - I'd really like to hear your stories and what (if anything) has finally worked for you. Thanks!!!

Hi everyone
Kristie - chiggers...you can't see 'em but they get under the skin and make things real uncomfortable...also "Noseeums" (no-see-ums) sort of like little gnats, found near the beaches and things on the east coast. And then there really are things called bed bugs, but I'm not sure what they are and if they truly bite.
I'd ask a pharmacist who knows the area...they should be able to help diagnose the bite and also tell you how to treat it.
Steff -- sounds like you had quite the fun weekend...enjoy the twins. Those *are* some big babies (for twins!) -- it's really nice of you to baby sit for your friend! and to watch all those kiddies and be eaten out of house and home, LOL!
not much new here...i should be going to bed, yet here I sit, watching baseball and playing solitaire. in between reading UM. I really do need more of a life...LOLOLOL! laurie

HI....

How the heck is everyone??? HEY anyone want 6 kids who all spent the night at my house last night???? 3 are still sleeping.. :) Jeff went to Seattle for a couple days and I let Kyle invite a couple friends over which rose to 4 friends yesterday . I took em all to the beach and they swam(I had to rescue an 11 year old who weighs more than I) while liv and I made sand castles. Funny thing after she makes em she hasta stomp em out. The child will NOT GO near the water. Funny thing we go to this section of the beach loyally so I could go rescue one of Kyles buddies while people we see there all the time had Liv sit with em and make sand castles. APPARENTLY the boys went to bed at 4am . Me n Liv slept upstairs. WE'RE THE SMART WELL-RESTED ONES...
They're all going home now after eating everything in my fridge last night. I opened it up this morn and it was bare. :( One hour and I am waking em up and off they go. Think I'll send my kids to their house to eat since we have no food left..LOL Today I am babysitting 2 week old twins. My gf(her boy is the guy I rescued and spent the night) had her twins july 7th and they were one boy 6lb 12oz and a girl 6lbs 9 oz. BIG TWINS EH?? I saw her yesterday she looked at me the babies started to cry and so did she. POOR THING. We're going over for 4 hours and letting her go back to bed while we watch em. I personally CAN'T WAIT. And my gf needs the rest desperately. poor thing so I am off to babywatch...YAY.... love ya guys and take it easy. Steff

Thank you all!
Shelley, what is Legg-perthes? Abigael has worn the
flexible foot braces forever, her therapist is going to order new ones. They will be higher up on her leg.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
Heather- I feel the same way about bullies. My oldest son Elliott plays baseball. This past season there were a few other little girls who had brothers on the team, they were always at practices and games. They would ignore Abigael. It made me soo mad. She will just follow them around anyway. I wanted to cry. One game I was standing behind her and one girl said"you can't play here" Abigael just looked at her. I said "why not?" and the little girl about died. She hadn't seen me. So she said she could. I almost made Abigael leave, I thought why leave her there. But, another girl came and played with her.
(I have babbled)
I would talk to your family and the boys parents first.
I still have to explain to my son that he has to answer Abigael. That she gets mad if he ignores her. He gets mad sometimes and isn't always nice.(like any big brother) But, then I've heard him explain to his friends about Abigael, so I know that he is trying.
good luck
jennifer

Hi! Wow, it's been a very long time since I've been here. I'm sorry that I only visit when I need help, I'll do better. Here is my long problem!
I hope some of you can help me. Nicholas is my oldest. We have been having problems in the family with cousins not being nice to him. Some of my sisters say they have talked to their kids about Nicholas, but it's not helping. The biggest problem is Michael who is a year older than Nicholas and doesn't do well with kids, he's one of those brilliant people who doesn't do well with other people. Nicholas spits, hits, kicks, and bothers anyone who is mean to him or who is ignoring him. This cousin does both, but it's always Nicholas who gets in trouble. Nicholas can't stick up for himself, isn't talking well at all, and is very different from the "normal" children. The cousins are having a hard time understanding that Nicholas is different and special. What do I do? Should I just talk to this cousin (and all the others, too) myself? What do I say to children about kids with Downs? It seems like my family, and my husband's family, doesn't want to deal with this situation, they just think if they ignore it, it will go away. I can't deal with this anymore. It's a big reason why I moved far away from them three years ago (but we're now looking to move back. I'm having second thoughts!). As I tucked him in tonight, he said "stop Michael mean me". Even though Nicholas acts like this bullying doesn't bother him, I know it does.

And what do I do about other people who are bullies? I feel like never letting Nicholas be around other people, but I know I can't do that. I am just sick right now and don't know how to handle this. I thought by now I'd have developed my thick skin, but I haven't.

Please help!!!

Hello Everyone,
It has been awhile since I have been here.
We just got back from a week of camping in Mass. went to Six Flags New England, had a great time. Courtney loved the water park, she was there most of the day, didn't want to leave. She just had her eyes checked this week. One eye has improved and the other eye is worse. She will not wear her glasses. the doc wants us to try again, so the glasses should be in in about a week.
Jennifer, Courtney also has flat feet and was causing her to have knee pain. Her orthopedic doc put some inserts in her shoes and she hasn't had any problems since (knock on wood). She also has Legg-perthes which was making her limp and not wanting to walk. She is doing really well though, The hip is healing well, doc doesn't think she will be needing surgery.
I hope your little one feels better soon. Keep us posted on how she is doing.
HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY TO EMILY!!! Sorry it's late.

Hi Jenifer, welcome to unomas!!!! Chase too has flat feet, (he has callouses where his arch should be) and it is affecting his ankles knees and hip. It causes pain but doenst slow him down.
But...when he was five he hurt himself somehow, we still dont know what he did but he would not or could not walk for eight weeks, it was a looonnnnng eight weeks too let me tell you. They ran every test possibly and could not find a reason for the pain but it went away slowly on its own and once Chase found out it didnt hurt to walk anymore, he started walking again. I will keep Miss Abigael (aka spanky) in my prqayers that whatever is wrong heals fast and goes away!
Steffi...THANX for the name of the medication, I will tell son #2 (David) about it tonight and se if I can get him to part with some of his money for a dr visit, the thought of some relief for his migraines should convince him.And no, I should be able to say yes but I dont really remember the Spongebob weenie hut jr show so now I have to watch for it, and why in the world would it remind you of me, LOL, anything thathas to do with me and spongebob being similiar is scary, LOLOL!!!!!
Susan....see, there you go again darling, you forgot somethig once again, it is memory from old age for sure because my sweet...YOU ARE OLDER then I, but hey we all understand if you forget, it is okay, I even think possibly,MAYBE... I am repeating myself!!
I should explain. Abigaels pain is so severe at times that she won't walk or even stand. (We know it isn't her flat feet) They think it may even be a hip problem. That is why I am so worried.
thanks for putting up with me! jennifer

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I live in Louisville, KY.
My daughter Abigael has ds. I recently posted something but I am not sure if it took. So if I am repeating myself, please forgive me.
I was hoping to find other parents to talk with about the highs and lows we go through with Spanky(Abigael)
We have going through tests lately because she is having pain in her left foot. We have seen a neurologist, had xrays, an MRI and Bone Scan and still nothing. If anyone has the same problem, I would love to talk.
The baby is crying, must go. Jennifer

Steff: You tell Liv a big thanx! If you get down to SD anytime, my mom is working in a Hallmark there in the Poway area now. Take Liv in & look for Meri's "Nonni" & lay some hugs on her! I'm sure my mom can fix her up with the latest in Beanies!

LINDA~ GREAT to hear from you.....I had been wondering about you!! Sorry to hear about your dad's health problems. We'd love to see you all.
~
I feel like I'm very far behind on posts, and my memory is so bad I can't remember what I planned to post by the time I get here!! I refuse to believe I'm getting forgetful.....I just have WAY toooo many things on my mind lately! Yes, that's it! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'm way younger than Robin and SHE is not forgetful, so it HAS to be that my brain is overloaded.
~
Our kids register for school a week from today......where did the summer go????? Jordan is actually looking forward to it. He made the 5th grade basketball team, and he thinks practices will start soon after school starts (although his mom thinks they will wait to closer to basketball season, but what does she know??), so he is READY. We still like this "year round" school schedule......this is the last year for the trial, and then we get to vote on whether it continues or not. I think the summers are too short, but the 2 week "vacations" during the school year are nice.
~
WELCOME to all the new members. I'm SO glad you found us. You'll love it here!!
~
Have a great weekend everyone. HUGS to all!!

LAURIE!!! I sent you a message in off topic we are praying for your mom. Hope it all goes well 2morrow and that it is a minor incident that will go away with meds or something. Read about my hubby low cholesterol in the off topic its weird you are right.

ROBIN tell #2 son that fiorinal with codeine works wonders for migraines. tell him to go to a cheapo clinic and have em prescribe it. Tell him to take it before he gets too bad and he will be sooo happy with the results. I know folks with cluster headaches and i recommended it to my gf's hubby last week and this timid man almost KISSED ME!!!LMAO... The RX for 30 of em costs about 35.00 for 30 or 60 I'm not sure but my hubby got the generic a few times when he was getting em and he had great results. GOOD LUCK!!!!

BTW GREAT NEWS!!! WEDNESDAY the bank called they never hgave jeff his $$$$ we got it back

Hi Tiffany - Is Maggie actually constipated (ie - dry hard stools) or does she just have a hard time going to the bathroom? If it's just difficult for her, it's more likely the low tone and not true constipation - speak to your pediatrician about it and ask the physical therapist for gentle exercises you can do with her...like when she's on her back bicycling her legs gently, things like that. Exercise helps things moving as does plain water hydration. You can also try glycerin suppositories - those usually work well, as does the fruit nectars (instead of juice) like Kerns Apricot and Pear nectar. Goya makes them as well. If the ped thinks it's a true case of constipation there are prescription laxatives or other things he can prescribe.
Also - look at her diet. Rice cereal can be constipating, as can iron supplements (though usually not formulas supplemented w/ iron because it's not a great deal of iron - but opinion varies on that).
Good luck - and hope this helps some.
laurie

We've tried a lot of things from different juices, karo syrup, little tummies laxitives, and now we're on hydrocil stool softener. Nothing seems to be helping. HELP!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?? I'd deeply appreciate it.

Hi there Unoland... I have been MIA lately...summer running keeping us busy. Katie and Emily both have swimming lessons twice a week at the lake. Katie loves it and the instructor says she willbe ready for level two... since she is the youngest and smallest and does everything the big kids are doing and more. My little fish!

Katie has ST twice a week, in Iron Mountain (35 miles) and PT and OT once a week. RUN RUN RUN! Now today Katie started Hippotherapy (Horseback riding). She is more active than I.

Oh no you don't Robin!!! SON of Beast really IS a scary roller coaster and your body didn't go near it (mine either, for that matter) .......BABY Beast was in the kiddy section and you and me and all the toddlers in Cincinnati rode it!! And lol, some had bigger tears than others....LOL. Sorry Kid, I just HAVE to tease you a bit.
~
HUGE thanks to everyone for the sweet birthday greetings for my favorite 13 year old. We're still working out the kinks in her birthday party plans, but will post later about that. I'm going to print out the Uno Mas birthday greetings and give them to her.

Suzi,

Collin was just a little over 2.5 years when he had his open heart surgery to repair his ASD. All I have to say is while very scary I would rather have to go through another open heart surgy like that than for him to have his tonsil & adenoinds taken out.

Collin went in to have his ASD repair on a Tuesday and was back home running around by Saturday am...He spent less than 24 hours in ICU. While in ICU and still on the vent he flipped over and was sleeping on his stomach. The first day they released him into the regular ward...with his chest tubes and IV still in he was running up and down the hall ways...climbing through a Fisher Price play house window. It was to the point where I told them I can't take it any more...ONE OF US HAS TO BE SEDATED!!!! LOL....Just want you to know while it is scary....she will do just fine.

EMILY PACE -- HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!

Robin and Maria -- There are bumps in the road that are bigger than the hills on the Son of Beast!!!

Hugs,
Connie

OMG is it really Linda, yeah I remember you, LOL!!!! We have asked a few times where you went to! I am glad to hear your dad is better and still able to live independent! I am also thrilled to hear Adam is doing great! I am not sure if the get together is going to be in dayton or Columbus, Susan is going to do a poll on the BB get together section to see who votes for where. We have to move on it pretty soon or miss out on hotel rooms. I hope you guys can come!
Suzi and Annie.....:-P It was so a big roller coaster, and it was not called baby beast..LOLOLOL, it is called son of beast, see even a scary name:-)
Suzi I am so sorry Meri has to have surgery, I kept praying it would all close on its own!!!! Let us kow when the surgery is and I will pray extra hard for a speedy recovery with no problems!!!!! Will it be soon?
Annie...oh no to you too!!!!! A hole in your heart and you never knew it, how scary!!!! I have you in my prayers along with Meri and everyone else that needs it! How did they find this hole, I mean what made them check you for it? And how does the migraines play into it? My #2 son has TERRIBLE migraines that involve the vomiting, loss of vision and the whole side of his face going numb and he has no insurance so he wont ever go to the dr for them, it takes him three days to recover! I sure am glad they found this for you before you had problems from it!!!!! Yikes, is there someone to help with Sonny while you are recovering?
You guys wont believe who called me last night, none other then Miss RO..yes that is what I said, our long lost "wild bunch" pack leader! She said she is doing great working lots of hours every one is good except DH Danny who is having some health issues but they are hoping to finally get to the bottom of it so I know all your prayers would be greatly appreciated!
Okay kids are begging to swim, hhugs to all,
Robin
PS Susan I am waiting to hear how you are.......everything go okay?

Heeeeeey!!!! Long time no post-um for me :) - my long time Ubo Mas friends!! :) Life has been a bit crazy here - My Dad has been in & out of the hospital a couple of times since the end of Feb - a Heart Attack & COPD (which we never knew he really had) --- but now things are a bit better - no where near normal as I am still having to take my Dad to Drs & buy his groceries - get his Rx filled (he has sooooo many now!) BUT we are thankful he is at his own home, mobil with no oxygen & is sort of maintaining (altho I don't think he's done much laundry since he's been home mid April - don't think he is up to it even tho he says he can manage - Bless his heart! & so he won't let me take any home to do) --- :( --- Parents! They're like Kids!!!! - STUBBORN!!!

Do I see that the place to be is Dayton this year??? I quickly skimmed a few posts - Don't know if we can finacially afford it this year - as I saw Maria say seems like there is always another bill to be paid - one car breaks - then the other has probs -- the washing machine & dryer -- then they all need new clothes at once cause they all grew!! , etc etc - never seems to end!

Well gotta scoot & do some lawn cutting before it rains here AGAIN --- hard to do the lawn work w/ so much rain BUT I personally like our 65 to 75 degree weather -:( - BUT the kids haven't been in the pool much between TOOOOOO many leaves to be scooped out from last Fall & the cool weather......

I'll be back but I know I'll NEVER catch up on all the news - someone just fill me in on the the next get together..... Thanks!!
Miss you guys! Adam is getting SOOOOOOO BIG you guys - I can't believe how he is just growing! He'll be in 4th grade this coming September....WOW!
Hugs to all my Uno Friends & Families!!
~Linda
