Susan...do you have any photo editing software?
You just need to make sure the width is no more than 800 pixels wide and the depth is no more than 1000 pixels long.
You can resize it to a 5X7 and it should be good too.
If there is a problem....email them to me and I'll post them.

But Steff! These are digital pics we took in Ohio. They all look the same size to me, but some of them are accepted and others are either too wide or to tall to post. Sigh!!

Susan same thing happened to me. BUT what I did was fold over the pic a bit(the width part) then scan again. Just the small bit(about 1/2 inch) being cut off or folded over worked and wasn't too wide. GOOD LUCK cause I wanna see the pics... HUGS Steff

I need help please.......I just posted a few photos of the get together in Ohio last weekend and would love to post more, but can't seem to get the SIZE right. I keep getting a message that says that the height or width are wrong. Must be too large, I guess and I'm not sure how to resize them. You've just got to see these pics! We're talking some MEGA cute kiddos!!! If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, please let me know.

HI!!!!!

Susan great news about Emily's camp!!!! HAVE FUN EM!!!!!

Carolyn welcome to Uno. Sorry I haven't had to deal with the issues you are talking about. BUT my hubby had his spleen removed because his platelets were crazy and it was really enlarged and painful. The only side effect he has from the spleen removal is he now gets infections easier and his wbc is always a bit high. His platelets went back to normal after it was removed. Good luck congratulations on your new big boy and welcome to Uno.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIC!!!!

Okily dokily. The kids are finally in bed at a decent hour.PHEW. Last night bunches of young children spent the night and now I am spent.... :) Olivia went to camp today. They go swimming everyday there at a hotel across the way.(they let em use it gratis ;) )Well apparently there is a 10 y. o boy who is scared to death of the water. WELL Miss Thing Olivia took his hand and patiently(they told me she guided him step by step) got this boy in the water. EVERYONE ran to me to tell me this story when I picked her up. The boys mom hugged Liv as he has NEVER been in the water his ENTIRE LIFE!!! pretty amazing huh???? So dang I was so proud I got the kids pizza tonight. Liv was WAY too tooo happy bout that one its been a LONG time since she ate that!!!!

Well hugs and more hugs.. Only 9 more days...YAY!!! BYE

Helloooo!!.... Looong time no see!!
It seems like FOREVER since I posted here.
I have been soooo disorganised lately it is just NOT funny...
I have started working... well volunteer... but still working 3 mornings a week...
I coach Kinder-Gym 2 mornings, and have set up a creche so that a friend of mine can coach Ladies Fitness classes and Ladies Netball.
Having been a SAHM for the last 2 years... I am having trouble getting back into the routine of going to work and getting all my other stuff done!!

Lewis is growing up more and more evry day...
and becoming more and more a PAIN in the Butt every day!!... OK I didnt really mean that... But he sure keeps me on my toes...
Robin... heres one for you... Lewis is just trying to earn his Place in the Chase hall of fame...
I was doing some shopping last week, and had Lewis in the main part of the shopping cart, because at almost 4 he doesnt fit in the toddler seat anymore. I was reading the shelf labels comparing prices etc, when I heard Lewis making some really ghastly noises...
Look down and here he is, with the CHILDPROOF cap undone and off a bottle of DISINFECTANT, and DRINKING IT!!! He then starts gagging and vomiting, all over my shopping, and the floor etc...not to mention me...
He has all this green frothy stuff ooozing from his mouth... si I just grab him out of the trolley and run to the car, shoving people in the checkout out of the way, almost run over about 20 people, rushing him to the hospital!!..Just lucky it is a small town and the hospital is only in the next street.
I got to the hos[ital and they asked if I bought the bottle with me so they can identify the ingredients etc... I sid what... am I supposed to wait inline at the checkout to pay for it while my son takes his time to really suffer from poisoning?? or am I supposed to just take the bottle without paying for it, then have the security guard chase me round town??? I was able to tell them the brand and concentrate strength... surely that should be enough...
To cut a long story short... he didnt suffer any burns oe blistering to his mouth or throat, and the recommended treatment was plenty of milk and icecream(yeah, reward the kid with icecream...) and let it pass through... needless to say he continued to vomit for nearly 24 hours and had really lovely bowel motions for a few days....
At least now he is Squeaky clean..inside and out!!

This is the type of stuff I have to deal with DAILY... and people wonder why I seem so scatterbrained... I am just being DRIVEN ROUND THE TWIST!!

Anyway, must be going...
Will try to keep up with things more ...

Huggles...
Tammy....

Afternoon all;
I'm glad the Ohio trip was such a sucess...I would have loved to go, but it was Eric's birthday on Sunday, and we had a family party for about 35 people.
The birthday boy had a great time, and hubby got to see alot of his family that he doesn't normally get to visit with. But maybe we can make the Dayton trip in September. We went last year, but Eric was alittle under the weather that week-end and I couldn't spend much time with the "girls". Hopefully, it will be better this time.
Susan: thats great news about Emily's camp...she's such a sweetie!
Well, gotta go...still cleaning up from the Shin-dig.

Tammy - chats are usually Sunday and Thurs nights at 8 or 9 pm (EST) - not sure of the time, exactly though. I think they get a late start sometimes.
Please feel free to post your questions here or on the bulletin board. because the msg board moves so fast sometimes your questions might be missed but the BB is usually a great place for questions.
welcome to all our new families!!
glad y'all had fun in OH - and we're really sorry we missed it. good thing though - first we had a funeral/wake this weekend and then yesterday MM had her very first lovely stomach virus. yikers! but she's better now....i think. i hope.
I'm going to have to check what MM's expressive and receptive scores were at her 3 yr eval...I can't remember but of course her receptive is way better than her expressive. In the past 2 months though her language has really started to blossom...but she still does a ton of unintelligible 'jargoning' - we go to the speech specialist in CT this Thursday for an eval. Keeping our fingers crossed that she'll be able to help us.
gotta run - laurie

I totally forgot to mention that when we got home and got our mail, there was a letter from the camp and ......Emily is IN!!! That is the GOOD news. The bad news is that she leaves this coming Sunday afternoon. She'll be ready and eager to go, I'll just be doing some FAST packing. My only real concern is that.....as many people noticed in Ohio, she is really QUITE shy! I always worry that she will not talk to anyone at camp until it's almost time to go home.
Ok...I'm off to work. We got home at 1am and it was nearly 2:30 before I went to bed, so this feels WAY early for work!! Have a great day everyone, and WELCOME to any new members I've missed while we were gone.

It happens every time! Each time we return from a get together with the Uno Mas family, I say "this was even better than last time".......and this year was no exeption. We had such a GREAT time!!! Thank you so much to every family who went to Sandusky. We really enjoyed meeting those of you who we hadn't met in person until this trip, and getting to know others better. I loved getting the chance to play with some of the cutest kids in the world!! With the exception of the COLD and RAIN during the early part of the day at Cedar Point, it was a perfect trip!! I'd say we should do another get together there, but we still need to do Niagra Falls, Orlando.....and so many other places too. I hope I don't forget to count anyone, but a quick tally in my mind is that there were at least 40 people there; maybe more. My kids excitedly talked about their favorite part of the trip on the drive home, and I think they all enjoyed just hanging out with the other kids best. Justin is now talking about changing his career choice from police work to physical therapy....and asked if he could "specialize in working only with kids with Down syndrome". A BIG sigh of relief coming from this mom!!!! We took TONS of pictures and will post some of them soon.
~
On the trip home, we stopped at several hotels to search for a good place for the Labor Day get together. I'll post more about that later, but...Robin, we even put our feet into the pools to help us decide which one felt best! Looking forward to that get together! I hope we can meet even MORE new members then. Let's shoot for at least 100 people!!!

Hi everyone I thought I'd come and check out the message board...I've tried the chatroom a few times but haven't seen anyone there :( I got all kinds of questions and concerns about things and I'd like to know others input or advice, like I just read about delayed speech and evals needing to be done but Shelby hasn't had any yet. Shelby's gone to one clinic to evaluate where she's at when she was 4 mos. but she had just had her heart surgury the month before... so to me I think that can delay what her performances are... I requested for Shelby to have another eval done and also a speech one... she may be young but I'd like to start it sooner then when it's too late and it becomes really delayed. Anyways I'm gonna get going and I'll keep checking in on the chatroom to see you guys there.
Have a nice day! Tammy

Hey Robin,
I saw your post about Miss Maggie possibly getting a cochlear implant & I just wanted to say that I wish you guys all the best. I can understand how confusing it would be to make the decision to have it done or not, especially not wanting to put your child through another procedure. My little guy just had his 8th surgery done & it was on his right ear. Actually it's the 3rd procedure done on his right ear for a cholesteatoma. We were torn about doing it again, but the worst case would be if a growth was into the ear bones then he'd have to have a full mastoidectomy behind his right ear just like Radonna's little boy, Kaden, had done. We were very lucky & they didn't find another growth, but they did do another tympanoplasty with a fascia graft to the ear drum & replaced his tube. They also found scar tissue on the incus ear bone, so the doctor cleaned it up as much as he could. We're still in the healing process so it will be a while before we have another hearing test done. We go to the Hough Hearing Institute in Oklahoma City, OK & if I've read right, I think Dr. Hough was one of the doctors that had a big part in developing the cochlear implant. (If you'd like, I'd be happy to send their web site to you.)

I also wanted to share with you that Jared (at 6 yrs 8 months) was tested in April & his receptive & expressive language skills were at 5yrs 2 months. I'm sure that's probably not the norm for children with Ds, let a lone boys that have Ds. But I'd also like to add that he's more delayed in fine motor & gross motor skills. We live in a rural area (pop 1000) & he's never received physical therapy ever. Our ot was always the one that EI had take care of this issue & then when we got in school, their excuse is that he's mobile & can get around the school & on the play ground equipment with out any assistance, so they have always denied services for pt even though he doesn't function like a typical 6 ½ yr old. He does receive ot & st 1x a week, so I've had to pick & choose my battles. I'm thinking about checking into a new horse therapy program that started up in another town that is about 15 miles from us. I've heard they're doing great things with this program.
I do have a funny story to share which at the time it wasn't so funny to me, but here it goes. One day this week, Jared, answered our phone because I wasn't able to. When he picked it up he said "Hello, who is it?"........then I heard him say "Hi , grandma!"............"Oh, you're not grandma."........."My mama is on the toilet!" I then asked him to bring me the phone since I was finished & able to talk.........and I'm thinking ok..........who the heck is this going to be & I'm so embarrassed!!! Low & behold it was Becky (Justin's mom) that post's here at Uno. Needless to say we had a good laugh over this & I told her that her turn would be coming one of these days too!!
She was actually calling to give me a hard time because we were in OKC on Tues. afternoon at the Olive Garden & her sister said she thought she saw us & heard me talking to Jared. Sure enough it was us because Jared had a post op appt with the ENT.
With all that said........just goes to show how each of our precious children are as individual as typical children are :)
Take care & have a great week!!
Sherri

Hi Robin. Jennifer will be 5 in Oct and is stillisn't talking. She has not been evaluated lately so I do not know where she is. She wants to talk so bad but some words she just cannot get out of her mouth. She has a vocabulary of about 15 words, some are clear some are not. I do not know how much of this is DS related and it is very frustrating. I had a meeting with her SLP this past week and the Pediatrician. They want her to go to a neurologist to check and see if something isn't going on there that is preventing speech. We are going to start there and try to get some kind of diagnosis so we know where to go to help her. We may even take her a DS clinic to have her evaluated. I just need to know how to help her. So far every oral motor exercise has not worked and my SLP has exhuasted all her resources. We know her hearing is great and her receptive skills are wonderful. I may be doing all this for nothing, but I feel I need to really move on this especially before she starts kindergarten next year. I have a year to get her talking at least well enough to communicate at school.

Thanks Jenn! My "gut" tells me that it has to be partly DS stuff that is helping delay her language. But her therapists want to argue the point with me non-stop. I'm so confused!
But it won't hurt to talk to another doctor and get his opinion. I'm always worried that I'm getting the run around when it comes to medical stuff "because she has DS!" I have thought more than once that the professionals we were dealing with would not have suggested the samet thing if she had not had DS.
I know that sometimes that is called for. But, I don't believe so in this case. Hearing is hearing. Helping a child hear well shouldn't rely on whether they have "cognitive" issues. Ugh!
I'd love to hear more input on what level expressive language your kids had at 3 years of age.
Take care.

HI.....

Is it July 7th yet??? UGGGGG... 10 days gone by and yet still another 11 left... Hate to whine but man it is much much harder than it used to be. Jeff said its HOT in Portugal and NO ONE WEARS DEODORANT!!!! LMAO thats what he gets for leaving me so long!!!

I did however get a reprieve last night when my pals babysat the kids so i could go to my moms 65th birthday party!!!! Felt so free driving kidless to the restaurant with 50 ADULTS to talk to.... WOW I even had a lobster tail and my uncle laughed so hard cause I inhaled it. He couldn't believe how much I can eat. LOL... I haven't had a decent meal in a few weeks as we have been so broke and its more like gotta feed the kids so I went all out footloose and fancy free and ate and ate and ate... :)

The checker at our local grocery store bought Liv a doctor kit for her graduation. OMG talk about one happy kid and a MEAN DR.... LOVES when she inflicts pain and you say OUCH makes her GIGGLE!!!! SICKO!!! Kyle was watching SCREAM this morning well I am sooo mean I got out the scream halloween mask and crept in the room he was watching it in and said with my scream voice HHHEELLLLLO KYLLEEEEE!!!! LMAO... He jumped about 10 feet in the air and proceeded to wanna get me. I could NOT RESIST!!!! Guess I'll be paying for that one tonight....

Well must go and clean this whole place its a mess with the kiddos home all the time now.Didn't realize how clean the house was with them gomne at school all day... SIGH!!! Talk to you all later!!!BYE steff

Robin...that sounds about normal to me.
Courtney tested at 2 yrs 11 months on expressive language and she is 9! I would have put her at atleast 4 years old expressive but those tests they use are way too strict! Now, her receptive was alot higher....but that is normal for a kid who has ds.
Comeon you guys with older ones....aren't I right on this?
I would slow down a bit if that is why the implant was being considered. just my opinion though. :)
I wouldn't want little Maggie to have to go through that if it really isn't necessary.
Sounds like she is doing pretty good!
Keep us posted!

Hello to all the new families! So glad you found this great website!
I'm Robin M, mom to the future diving board champion...Maggie! She decided she couldn't let her big brother get one up on her yesterday, so she followed him into the deep end of the pool and wanted to jump off the diving board!
She wears one of those ring type floaties and swims everywhere and can get around nicely on her own. Her brother got in the water to "catch" her, and I held her hand as she stepped off the board and went all the way under. She came up giggling and wanting to go again, and again, and again! Before the hour was up, she was climbing up on the board herself, walking off the end of it and swimming back to me by the side of the pool! Everyone was amazed that she was so fearless. Not me, I know she's a wild woman.
Now to get her some swimming lessons before she gives me more gray hairs. Keeping up with her is a full time job.
We went to MCV (Medical College of VA) Wednesday to start a cochlear implant evaluation. Once again, our local doctor's office messed up and sent us to the wrong doctor! UGH! He was in the same group mind you, but the one we saw doesn't actually do CI's.
Long story short, we'll be going back soon. I'm waiting for the audiologist to call me Monday to let me know what's next. It's so hard knowing what to do because Maggie hears well with her right ear and her hearing aid, but her expresive langauge is behind. She tests at a 12 month level and she's 3 and 1/2. I never know what's DS, or oral motor issues, or hearing loss. I can't find someone who can tell me for sure which one it is and how to help her with it. Frustrating at times.
I better run. Long week. Hopefully peaceful weekend.
Take care.

Welcome Steve, Ros, and Thomas.
My mom is from England although not from London. Our first and so far only child, Bliss, has down syndrome. She is truly a joy and makes our house such a better place. I'm currently pregnant with our second child. I'd love to hear about your experiences so far across the ocean. I do love reading on this sight. It's the best one I've found so far.

Hi,
I have a 27 month old named Valerie. My pregancy was normal, she developed normally with no health conditions or abnormal ultrasounds. She just started talking a few words at age 2 so she has a severe speech delay. She understands what I ask her with maybe some delay. We went to the neurologist at MGH and they said she looked like she had Turner's syndrome or Noonan Syndrome although subtle.
Genetic tests came back yesterday and she doesnt have those, but she has 47 XX +
She mentioned a marker on her chromosome. Then she mentioned trisomy 21 and Down Syndrome.
She said that she needed to test myself and DH to see if we are carriers, and if we are, then she is probably a carrier too and then we will do further blood tests called a FISH study.
If we are not carriers, then she has Down Syndrome.
From my research, it appears only translocated DS would be passed on from the parents. Does translocated DS show up as 46XX and not 47XX?
Can it be possible she has DS with no physical characteristics and for it to be not diagnosed by ultrasound or by her pediatrician?
Can she have DS and still have normal gross and fine motor and no apparent health problems? (except she has epicanthal folds and 1 partially blocked tear duct)
I asked the Dr if she is just a carrier then is there another reason for her speech delay, and she came back with, "she is retarded, it isnt a speech delay" I was shocked by her bluntness, especially since she was positive she had Turner syndrome and she didnt.
Do they usually test the parents for being carriers for simple trisomy 21?
it is so hard to wait the 2-3 weeks for the results. My DH is calling her today to ask some more questions, we'll see what happens, but if anyone has any insight I would appreciate it!

Kimberly,
Welcome back! It sounds like your little one is doing fantastic! I bet she is a little sweetie.
I just had to comment about the throwing thing...Eric
had a major problem with that. Would throw food, toys,
shoes, anything he could get his hands on. It was tuff in OT, because he would throw everything the teacher would give him. I was very frustrated and so was the therapist. Then when he was about 3yrs old, he didn't throw as much...less frequent, usually when he was boored. In preschool, they hardly ever had a problem with him throwing things...didn't even hurl his food anymore. And he was much better in therapy also. I don't know why he stopped, but I'm happy he did!
So there is hope!! Just hang in there and remember to DUCK!! Dolly

my prayers go out to emilys family and friends. i havent posted in a while but for those who remember me, i am the one with the "thrower"!!! we are still throwing which interfers with all other aspects of our life! LOL pray it will just stop one day all together! the good news is that we are finally walking! YEA!!! thought we'd never get there-we are "full blown" walking, but she did walk across the living room this afternoon. we have the orthopedic braces since her feet rool in a bit when she walks and they seem to help but having to get her shoes 2 sizes bigger than normal causes her to trip over them sometimes! we are hanging in there and praying that one day there will no orthos or throwing! wishful thinking! to all the new moms-WELCOME TO HOLLAND!if you havent heard about the holland story, please email me so i can send it to you-it was given to me a few weeks after i had isabella and we loved it! i think you will find this site both informative as well as supportive! as i was reading the latest entries, i found myself wondering how did parents ever make it through the tough times without computers! as for isabella, she is progressing well, and is quite the little ham! learning to work her mother to her advantage with her smile and her new talent-the wink/smile combination! it works everytime! still open to any suggestions on throwing. her OT says she sees it more now than ever and shes been doing OT for 25 yrs! scary to think we'll be graduating in a year and entering the school system! take care everyone! just wanted to say hello and share her walking with those that "get it"....

HI!!!!

Maria I am sooo sorry to hear about Emily.. :( Can't imagine having a child for 13 years then having to let go... UGGGGG....

SUSAN... Fingers and toes crossed that Emily gets picked to go to camp.

Pat.... well hey your right now the police know where John John lives.. PHEW!!!! he's a lucky kid.... Olivia usta run away from me when she was younger but now she wouldn't do it. I've got the child scared to death of our busy street. Although anyone with a stroller walking down the street gets followed by Liv. She loves them babies. We call her the "stroller stalker".

Welcome to all the new people my girl Olivia is 6 years old.It was so funny cause the other day we went to my moms for dinner. WELL my dad kept pretending to snatch Livs food. Well if ya know Liv she will give ya anything but NOT her food. She got really mad at him and said POPPY SHAME ON YOU... YOUR DOOMED!!!! LMAO... We cracked up cause she meant it. LOL and got real mad when we laughed but still after a minute she hasta laugh too. The girl gets the MAJOR giggles. Day 8 only 10 more days. I believe I will go out of my mind soon. 2 kids me with little $$$ and no school or camp. YIKES!!!JEFF come back... He digs Portugal but I only have talked to him 2 times since he's been there cause he has no number over there yet. I'll be in the loony bin by the time he arrives home. I literally broke down this morning cause the stress of having just me and them 24/7 is getting to me. Liv looked at me wrapped her arms around me and said MOMMY PLEASE BE HAPPY.. Sheesh felt like a sap just told her I missed daddy but I'd be okay she was sooo worried.. :) Well gotta git nighty night Steff

Hello all!
I've been wondering if anyone here is from NC area. My husband and I are thinking about relocating at the moment.
Noah has been doing great. WE got back some terrific news that his xrays didn't show craniosynostosis at all. Things are looking great for Noah, but boy we'd like to move to an area where we are closer to a children's hospital where they deal more with Down syndrome and coloboma.
Hope you are all having a great day!

Any takers? I'm bypasssing the Cedar Point fun on Friday and just doing Saturday's picnic and swimming fun, and going home Sunday.

Well, yesterday I had one of those days. That little stinker, we were all playing in the backyard. There was someone there to buy a puppy. I went into the house to get the lady some papers came back out in less then a min. About 2 min later Victoria says "where's John-John?" He had gone in the house from the backdoor and out the front(usually locked, but the people were coming over for the puppy & I wanted to be able to hear them). He had made it down 2 houses, walking the yellow line(wouldn't his PT be proud). A couple of cars stopped. So when I got there, one was sitting on the back of his pickup holding John-John & the other had dialed 911. Two police cars showed up because when the man was on the phone to 911 he had said the mother was running towards them. The police thought there might be problems. They thought I might think someone was abducting him. I'm just glad they caught him!! The man who dialed 911 had a cousin who had DS. The good part is now the police know where John-John lives.
BARB.. that Navy base is looking better & better!

Joseph is my 12month old stepdad's son. He is DS and I am trying to access information for his mom online about activities that would help him developmentally. She is from Lima, Peru so things in Spanish are helpful also. If you know of any good resources other than ECI or Project search in the Southeast Texas area that would be great also. Thanks, Crystal

Maria~ Emily's family will be in my thoughts and prayers. That is just terrible news! It really hit home with me when you posted about her surgery because.....well because my own Emily is about to be 13 and there is nothing I can imagine that could be worse than losing a child.
~
Staphanie~ Welcome to Uno Mas! We'd love to hear more about Bryn. I went to your Juice Plus website.....interesting! My family has taken that for many years. My grandmother loves it, so she sent it to us for years.
~
I hope to have good news about Emily going to camp in a few days!! For the past several years, she has gone to a week long overnight camp, and has LOVED it. This year, the summer camp she was so fond of....shut down due to lack of funding from our school system! She was really disappointed. I told her I would look for a camp (hopefully somewhere within 45 minutes to an hour from here), but I was pretty sure I'd never find one at this late date. Ok....to make a long story shorter, I talked to a woman at the Easter Seals camp and they have a number of sessions each summer. The one that would have been ideal for Emily was LAST week (a performing arts camp~ they work very closely with the Ds association in Nashville and there are a lot of kids with Ds who go to that session. She would have LOVED that!!!), but they have another one coming up for kids with developmental delays. The woman faxed me the application, I filled it out and faxed it back. They are deciding TODAY on which kids will get to attend, depending on their available counselors, etc. I haven't told Em yet, because I don't want her to be disappointed if she can not go. She will be SO excited. Her older brother went to a week long church trip, her youngest brother is going to a week long cub scout camping trip in mid July, and now maybe she can go too. LOL she would alwyas prefer to be the CAMPER, rather than the one staying home being bored! The camp will run from July 4th afternoon to the 9th.
~
Can I put in just one more plug for the Sandusky get together??? If anyone is reasonably close to that area, please try to come.....at least to the picnic on Saturday. I'm thinking I will call Robin after we decide on the exact location for the picnic and she can post it here on Friday. It's LOTS of fun to get to meet each other face to face!!

Morning unoland,
Yikers it has been a difficult last several days!!!! Before I whine to you all, I want to sy hey to all the new families and welcome welcome welcome to a wonderful place. If there is anything you think others won't understand.....just know you have found a place where nothing is off limits concerning our kids, ask, vent, laugh or cry away...oopps, whining is also allowed :-)I can't wait to get to know all the new families. I live here in mid Michigan in a small small town with my husband and two sons, Chase 11, he has DS, and Zach 5. We also have two grown sons, Mike 27 and David almost 25.
A little plug for our upcoming trip this weekend...we are meeting several families in Ohio and if you are interested in joining us at the last minute, give myself or Susan or Barb a quick email. I wont be doing the Cedar Point part of the trip but I will be there early Saturday morning for the swimming and picnic part of it, and stay til Sunday afternoon.
Okay.... Zach was hospitalized last week overnight so they could do some more tests, we took him in Thursday afternoon (I think) because we could not get his 104 temp down and he was crying his lower back hurt bad. they ran tests and found nothing so they admitted him, and did more tests Friday. We got to come home Friday night, they did however find that one of his kidneys is very enlarged and something about where the opening of it meets something else, I hate to admit I did not get anything she said, I had no sleep and she was using foreign words and I think I was shocked to hear he really had something wrong with his kidney, she said it needs to be followed up on and dont worry til we get more tests done, what is that about telling me, Robin the worrier not to worry? That is like telling Santa not to come Christmas Eve, sighhhhh.
So I get home to find my dogs gone, yes both of them were gone, they had climbed the fence (you'd be proud of the fact Chase has taught them both to follow him up and over the chain link fence) So I called the animal control's answering machine, crying because they had been gone for two whole days and they have never ever been gone from us for that long. To make a long story short, we got Bailey back this morning, he had been in the pound since the morning he escaped with Sophie, he is very traumatized, Sophie and he were crossing a road and she ran out in front of a car they said and was killed. When the animal control got there, she was dead and Bailey was curled up around her protecting her, ok I am crying again over this. The boys are devastated and I feel terribly guilty for every time I said she was a PITA.
One more whine and I promise to go away...Chase got kicked out of the pool at the college yesterday, you know he is being taken of his meds right...well, seems he......the little brat crapped in the pool!!!!!!! He is so grounded, so grounded from the pool for such a long time he may forget how to swim, why, why on earth would he do that?????? That is so disgusting, so disgusting!!!!!
Ok, I leave you now with that image in your heads, sorry. Hugs to all, I hope you have a wonderfully sunny warm day. We are going to the zoo, I thought it would take their minds off of Sophie for a while and then tonight I am going to a "celebration of differences" It is a huge dinner at a very fancy conferene center with music and dancing, it is going to be alot of success stories about people with disabilities who are winners because they never let their disability stop them from achieving their goals. It is people with disabilities who have a job, or are volunteering, have learned to use public transportation or made a network of drivers for themselves, and are living independently!!!!!!
love to you all, huge hugs,
Robin

Hi everybody!
Welcome to all of our new friends!!!
~
Just have to share this!!! After months of working VERY hard, Alison accomplished a biggie today!!! All by herself she got from laying on her back to sitting up!!! Her PT & I were getting so frustrated because for the longest time - easily since about the beginning of March - she has been SOOOOO close but would just give up! I'll tell you guys if I could do cartwheels, I'd have been doing them down the middle of the street today!!!! LOL! The best part was that Bob, Alison PT, was here for the big accomplishment! He was almost as thrilled as I was!
~
JULIE: Have no fear - you are NOT breeding freaks when it comes to kids and clothes! My 7 yr old daughter is SOOOO label conscious it is scary! I'll get her stuff at Walmart or Target and this little imp will not wear them! I also have an almost 14 yr old daughter who is like the polar opposite! Caitlin could care less about clothes - just give this girl a pair of jeans (doesn't even care what brand!), a T-shirt, and a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor hi-top sneakers and she is one happy camper!!! Boy I can hardly wait until my 7 yr old hits her teens and is REALLY clothes conscious - NOT!!!
~
Can't wait to meet everybody who is going to be in Ohio this weekend!!!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say what a wonderful site this is. I wish I would've known about it sooner. I have a 15 month old little baby girl with downs and where I am from there are not very many children with downs because it is such a small area, so it is nice to be able to communicate with others who are parents of a downs child who know exactly what your talking about. I know that I will enjoy coming to this site. Take care....Tammy
