Just got word through a twins list I belong to that Hollywood is looking for an African American adult male with Down syndrome for a feature film starring Angela Bassett. Even though I got this info from a twins list, they are not looking for twins, just a singleton. This person needs to be in their 20's - 30's, be personable, verbal, and able to follow directions. No reference to any prior acting experience being a requirement. This same agency had a casting not too long ago for a young boy w/DS recently and I believe this is for the same movie. Just to put your mind at rest - this request is from a legitimate casting agency that mostly deals with twins. They put a lot of their casting info in their weekly on-line newsletter. Their website is www.twinsworld.com. It's run by Debbie and Lisa Ganz.
Please pass this info along to your local support groups. If you know anybody who fits the bill, please email Debbie and Lisa at twins@twinsworld.com, or billywonka@aol.com. Tell 'em Judi sent ya!

BARB: Prayers going up for Alison. So sorry to hear she is sick!! Please keep us posted when you can.
~
I had quite a surprise last night! I was sitting here at the computer, and I got an instant message on Yahoo from my dad! He was supposed to be in the hospital at least one more day, but said they let him go. (He added that he was afraid he had been the worst patient in the history of that hospital). He still has some trouble swallowing, his speech is still a bit garbled, and he's depressed. He says they found some significant heart damage (not as a result of the stroke.....but they found it during the testing), and he is looking at major life changes. I'm really hoping this will included no more smoking, but he has smoked 2 packs a day for nearly 55 years! Thank you ALL so much for the prayers on his behalf.
~
I never posted again after Emily's awards banquet the other night, but we all had a blast! I'll post a few pictures at the Island soon. Emily looked SO pretty....if I do say so myself! The speaker for the banquet was a young man named Nick Trail. He is the equipment manager for the University of TN football team, he has CP, and he was such an inspirational speaker! His parents were told when he was born that he'd never be able to walk or talk, but he is attending UT, majoring in psychology, and definitely can walk and talk!!! When it came time for the awards, Emily immediately looks at me and says "I'm not walking up there by myself. Make Jordan go too". I kept whispering to her that all the other kids were accepting their awards all by themselves, and she should too. She looked absolutely terrified! Jordan started saying "aw Mom, just let me walk her to the podium, and then I'll come back and she'll be fine". So, when they called her name, Jordan immediately stands up (dressed in a suit and tie, and looking like a little man!), gives Emily his arm (like an escort), and they walk toward the front......to many awwwwwwwws! He immediately turns and comes back to our table, and Em was fine. She gets her shyness from her mom, and I'd give anything to help her get rid of it!! Afterward, the dance was so so much fun! The gymnastics instructor asked Emily to dance and I thought she was going to faint! She danced for about an hour, and had such a great time. I'm already eager for the NEXT banquet.....a year from now!

Morning guys, on my way to work and thought I'd pop in for a quick peek. YIKES! Good thing I did, prayers needed every where I see.
Barb.... prayers and more prayers going out to sweet baby Alison for a fast recovery back to home and sisters!
Jenn... I will think of Darin all day tomorrow and keep him in my prayers, you keep us posted right away ok?
Susan... I am going to look at this the upbeat way. If your dad had to have a stroke, (may he NEVER have another one) this was the perfect time...he has three awesome grandkids coming to see him so he is going to work harder then ever to get back what he lost from the stroke so he can spend tons of great times with you all!!! I know it is coming up fast to be a year since your mom passed away and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I always miss my mom so much this time of year, so hugs and love to you my friend.
Ok I wish everyone here a wonderful Wednesday...just get me to the weekend and let me hear that phone ring for a job for Dave!!
hugs and Love,
Robin
PS.... Laura, how is your dad doing? He is still in my prayers also as is Cariana, any one heard from her mom Janice lately? love to you all :-)

Hello everybody!!!
I'd like to ask that you say a prayer for Alison - she was admitted to Children's Hospital here in Buffalo this evening with RSV and bronchiolitis (similar to bronchitis) and is in ICU on IV's, oxygen, respiratory treatments and steroids (I wonder if she'll get "roid rage"?). At this point they are holding off on any antibiotics until a repeat CBC is done to see if her white count goes up and are also waiting to see if anything grows on the blood cultures they did as well. Needless to say she is not a very happy little camper.
Well, just home grabbing some stuff and heading back to the hospital for the night. I'll let you all know how things are going as best I can.
Thanks so much.

hellooooooo.......

I haven't been around too much lately....alot of stuff going on!

Just thought I would come to my friends with a prayer request.....
My dh is having surgery Thursday. He has two masses surrounding his right jugular vein in his neck. They are going in to remove them and then will send them off for biopsy. We won't even know what is involved until they get in there and see it. They gave us a list of possiblities:
Lymphoma, Thyroid cancer, salivary gland tumors, etc...

Would you please keep him in your thoughts and prayers Thursday. The place they are operating on has some nerves that could be damaged easily(voice box, right arm and shoulder)....so keep the surgeon in your thoughts too. I am really nervous and he is too!

On a brighter note...Courtney made the honor roll once again! Nicolas made the Principle's list....all A's!!
WOOHOO!!!
HE is on the 504 plan so they pulled him out for the Iowa tests...They lady who tested him said she had never seen someone do as good as he did. I am pumped! He will be tested for the Gateway program next month. I am trying to decide if I want him to go to the magnet school or keep him there with Courtney. I think the latter.
Anyways, talk to you guys soon, I am not sure if I will back Friday or later. It all depends on what they find in his neck. Wish us good luck!
Robin and Susan...I am thinking of you two!

Robin, will be praying here that Dave gets job soon. Know how it is, Ron's unemployment ran out and he went to roofing but right now its not that great thanks to the weather. Hasn't worked in a week.
Susan, will be praying for your family.

Just have to tell a funny. Was on here playing solitaire with the kids in bed. (supposedly). I all of a sudden hear Cody screaming and Kylie runs in and screams that Cody is stuck behind a bar. Ron and I ran in there and there is Cody hanging in the closet upside down on the bar with his feet and hands wrapped around the bar. It was soo funny, all me and Ron could do was laugh. Boy, would he have been in trouble. I guess he climbed up on his castle toy box and was trying to get to shelf in closet or something and the toy box fell. Wish I had my camera, would had made him hold on a little longer...LOL. After I could get straightened up I did explain how dangerous that is but I don't think he will be doing it again.
Wish I could have sent you all a picture so you could share in the laugh.
Hugs,
Kristi

ROBIN: Of course we'll pray for a job for Dave QUICK!!! It really has been a long 8 months for your family, and I'll be praying Dave finds work soon. WONDERFUL news about Chase and his new friend....Nicole sounds like a jewel too!!
~
I just got a call from my sister. She said my dad is in the hospital in Phoenix after having a stroke. He will be there a few days for physical therapy and speech therapy. She says his words are garbled, and he is NOT a happy camper at all....a VERY independent and determined guy, he is. Please add him to your prayer list. The kids are really excited about going to see him in just 9 weeks. All of this feels so sadly familiar, since it was exactly a year ago that we received the news that my mother had cancer and she passed away when we went to visit. Scary!!

Hi everyone.... my back is still really bad but decided to pop in and say hi any ways. I got a cortisone shot Thursday night so I am hoping it will kick in and combined with the TENS unit start to help. I have to get better soon as it is garden season and I cant find any fairies to help me.
Chase has a hernia but the dr seems to not be worried at all, he says it is small enough that it shouldnt cause any problems, just stay in watch and see mode.
Chase met a new friend named Drew who is 14 and has DS. They went to the movies last night to see the new Scooby Doo movie and then on to Pizza hut, didnt get home til 9:30. He had a ball and I was so excited for him! We are planning more fun, horse back riding, box cars, and softball along with swimming (which he is now doing three times a week) Finally, he is getting a life thanks to Nicole, who comes to our house and spends time with him every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
My grand baby is absolutely gorgeous, and I will post a pic of her when I get a chance at the island.
Dave is STILL laid off, only two more checks from unemployment so is it ok if I ask you to pray he gets a job soon? It has been a lonnng lonnng 8 months.
Ok I need to get, hugs and prayers for you all, welcome to the new families and the old ones that have come back
hugs, Robin

Wanted to share this poem that I thought I'd lost - it still makes me cry nearly 6 years on......
A meeting was held
Quite far from earth.
"Now it's time for another birth"-
Said the angels to the lord above,
"This special child will need much love.
His progress may seem very slow,
Accomplishment he may not show.
He will require extra care,
From the folks he meets down there.
He may not run or laugh or play,
His thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he won't adapt,
And he'll be known as handicapped.
So let's be careful where he's sent,
We want his life to be content.
Please Lord find the parents who would do
A very special job for you.
They will not realise it right away-
The leading role they're asked to play.
But with this child sent from above,
Comes stronger faith
And richer love.
And soon they'll know
The privilege given,
In caring for this gift from heaven-
Their precious charge,
So meek and mild
It's Heaven's Very Special Child"

Good morning!!!
For everyone who is planning to go to the Cedar Point get together (and for anyone who even MIGHT want to go), please check out the group ticket thread on the Bulletin Board. I'm hoping we'll have a large enough group to get this discount.....I'm always eager to save money! There is also new info on the hotel's group rate....not such a great savings, but it's the best they could do.
~
Tomorrow night is the awards banquet for the athletic team Emily is a part of, and she is SO excited! It's kind of a dress-up thing, and after the dinner and awards there is a dance. THAT'S the part she is talking about.....as well as a list of all the people she plans to dance with. The team is getting larger and larger each year, and Emily is really enjoying it! They are in the middle of "bowling season" right now, and after this will be baseball. Jordan is already into baseball season, and has 3 lonnnnnng practices each week! Seems like a bit much to me, but he loves it!
~
HEATHER: We recently had a get together with some of the Uno Mas moms, and Michelle Mc mentioned that she is looking for a better way to have a photo gallery. Despite all her efforts, we did have a problem a while back with some loser taking a few of our pictures from this site and others. I'd love to see a new pic of Sophia!!

Dear Pamela!!! If you're reading this board...I tried to email you to your Pjsbabyblues01@aol.com address, and several times it was rejected...??? Have you perhaps a second address to which I could email you?
And hello to all the rest of the UNOMAS21 family!! Hello! I know I tend to linger in the shadows now and again... but life's ups and downs this past couple of years has taken more than out of me than I could dream of... but Sophia and me are now vveeeeeeeeeery happy... and things are starting to work themselves out. Staying in a foreign country is not exactly a walk in the park, especially if you have no help or support in sight. But Sophia's school is very good for her. Sophia started talking (YES!!!) last April just before her 5th birthday... 'tickle' 'thank you' 'turn it on/off' 'it is broken'... mind you.. Sophia never even babbled! She just started spewing beautiful 3-4 word phrases just when I thought I'd be waiting at least another year or two. I'll post an updated version of my 'silly goose' soon :) I have a lot to catch up on here at unomas21! When Sophia was born in May 98, there was nothing here to help AT ALL. And you all here at unomas saved us! I will spend some time reading now and will get more interactive again. I've learned a lot... time to spread some of life's knowledge again.
Warm wishes to all of you... wonderful that you're all still here!

Hi!!!

I read back a few posts and Susan they did infant massage at Livs old center based EI when she was a baby. They showed me how to massage on her belly to help with the major constipation she had as an infant. It really worked!!! The babies LOVE IT. Sheesh I felt like lying down occasionally and saying well HEY WHAT ABOUT ME??? LOL!!!

Robin I gotta go back and read a post I skimmed thru about your back!!! MAN!!! SOOO SORRY. You DO know Chase man is messing with ya now that he knows your DOWN( your back). I give the child credit he is some smart cookie.

Well life is crazy gotta get in a minute but wanted to say HEY!!!! Liv is doing really well. I have found out a way that has her a DELIGHT( did I say that?) in the morning and off to school. Now i havce been having some MAJOR probs with her in the last few months.behaviorally. EVERY morning I come home after taking her so FRAZZLED. EVERYTHING is an issue from 15 minutes before school till she gets inside the classroom. SO last week by accident found something that worked one day by accident and just kept on doing it and so far so good.!!!! K...Now I hafta wake up much earlier than I choose to but my sanity was at stake here.LOL....I have her eat her breakfast and put on her clothes. She will wash her hands and face and brush the teeth. THEN at 7:30 we go outside to play ball frisbee basketball etc till 5 till 8 whereby HER JOB is to go into the house and tell her bro its time to go.(I let him play his gameboy or gamecube at 730 while we play outside he digs it...he is also always ready at 7:30 now.hee hee) THEN after she gets him I swear its the cutest she'll walk to the car every morning put her arms around us and sing ME AND MY FAMILY!!!! LOL WAAAAAAY too much Barney in this house does he ever grow tiresome? Not a problem ever since nothing but fun and a JOY to be around PLUS she giggle so much when we play ball guess she needed a good belly laugh every morn before she could deal with a full day of school!

Talk to you all some time in the near fututre.YIKES WAY too busy... HUGS Steff

Hi there everyone...Sorry it has been sooo long, but you know how things are! I haven't been keeping up with everyone's posts, but wanted to tell you some exciting news!!! twice over actually!
Well, over the Xmas break (you know we get 6 weeks here in Australia 'coz it's summer), Jordan decided that he wanted to be toilet trained.....WOW!!!!!!
He just one day took off his nappy and ran to the toilet and WOO HOO did a wee!!!!!
OMG did that boy get the hugest cuddle, I nearly strangled the poor kid LOL.....
Anyway, that is just the start. He has been wearing Pull Ups to pre-school and when they take him to the toilet he performs. At home he is in underwear most of the time, and on a few occasions has run hell-for-leather to the toilet and pulled down his jocks and sat himself on the seat and done wees! Very encouraging right? What about BM's I hear you ask? Well, I've soaked many underpants in Napisan and have even thrown away a couple of pairs because I couldn't deal with the mess. (Am I bad?).....
Anyway, Jordan was earmarked to go to school where my two elder girls go (for any uninitiated viewers, they are 11yo and nearly 8yo). But it turns out that while awaiting Jordan's arrival, they've placed an autistic boy in the same class. Jordan did quite a few transition visits from pre-school, and each time was bullied by this kid. So he was whipped out of there so fast it would make your head spin. The reason being is that Jordan is a very routine kid, and this particular kid, Callan, was pushing him over and shoving chairs into him. This afected Jordan so much that he was not eating his snack at pre-school and at home his behaviour was totally not him! He would not even get out of the car when we pulled into the driveway, I've had to carry the damn kid everywhere.....and he is no light weight. He's not overweight or anything, just very heavy for me...I'm only 5'2". (nd not as strong as I think sometimes.]
Anyway, in Australia, a child has to start school at the age of 6 legally, so things were going from bad to worse. The current school could not offer him a place, and a "Special School" or "Special Class" I was told would not be available until next year. Well, because my kid is nearly 6 already, a lot of push and shove by the Education Dept. and also the Down Syndrome Society have secured him a place at a special class starting in 3 weeks time!!!!!!!
OMG....I cried when I heard the news. Laughter and tears in the Korver household for days at our good fortune.....I guess someone is looking out for my boy, thank goodness. I just can't bear the consequences of his settling somewhere for 6months and then being transferred to a totally new environment! Anyway, thanks for listening to me share the sorrows (or part of them) for the last 6 months.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THIS MONTH....
Sorry I've not been in contact sooner, lifehas just been too stressfull for me the last few months....
Love to hear any responses regarding school entry.
Luv to all, Jules

Veronica~ Welcome to Uno Mas! I'm glad to hear you want to work with babies with Down syndrome. My daughter is 12 years old now, but she had infant massage for about her first year of life. She also had (and still has) physical therapy. I don't think it's a matter of one of them being more important than the other....I see infant massage as a part of physical therapy. I think you'll find that working with babies/kids with Down syndrome will be FUN and rewarding!!! Please go to the Home Page of this site, and check out some of the links. There is a site by Dr. Len Leshin....a parent and pediatrician. He has loads of info on various therapies. You might also want to do a web search for info on hypotonia related to Down syndrome. Again...WELCOME!!

Hi all,
some days you just need big shoulders to cry on! Jackson got a new aide. . .she's great, we both really like her but Jackson has decided to go into testing mode with her. He will NOT do ANYTHING she says!!! He will do it for me, but not her. I keep telling him that she is his teacher. I sign and tell him to listen to her. I think that he is just trying out some defiance!! We started giving him small rewards for doing what she asks. We will see if it helps ( he likes silky material, so he gets a silky scarf to hold when he listens to her). The rest of my class is just nutty this year. Not at all a good role model for J. I seriously have 16 children, and out of those only about 4 are what I call "typical" kids. They either have horrible behavior issues, diagnosed oppositional defiance disorder, mental illness, ADHD, severe speech problems or they are gifted!!! Many come from abusive or disfunctional families. Is it June yet??? I am thinking of having Jackson transition to the the first/second grade class so that he is not around all this negative behavior. He is definitely picking up on some stuff. Today he threw a block at someone!! He has NEVER done that kind of thing before! The school psychologist refers to my class as the little e.d. (emotionally disturbed) class on the ridge! Man. June should be here soon! Thanks for letting me vent here. I know it is unprofessional, but some days I am only human!

Pamela - Mom of twins - I've been trying to email you (from both my work email and yahoo email) and each time I get a message saying "not accepting messages from this person" (or something like that!). ANNIE S: Way to go on the weight loss!!! I love Weight Watchers! About 2 years ago, I lost about 44 lbs on WW. Then, last year when I went to CA (when my mom passed away) I totally blew it......ate everything in sight! And I continued to do that until just recently and have gained back SO much of that weight. So, now I'm back on WW and feeling better. The pounds don't just fall off....but it is steady and sure.
~
I've noticed the same thing about the BB. Occasionally, it says "too many connections", and often when I do get in (about 15 seconds later), there are only a few people there. Maybe only a few Uno Masers, but too many other Pro Board users? I have no idea.
~
Better run! Can't wait to see the pics of Allison's first bday! Barb, I'll pray that she is doctor-FREE for a while.

Oh, I almost forgot..... I've also had trouble getting onto the boards and chat at times. I get a message saying that there are too many connections, yet when I do get onto the BB there are only a couple of members logged in and a few guests. Wonder what's up with that?

Hi everyone!

Alison had a great first birthday!!! We discovered that this gal LOVES ice cream and frosting! She wasn't too thrilled with cake part though. I posted a few pics on the Island. I can't believe how fast this year has passed!!! It went by so fast and yet in other ways so slowly what with getting her through the 4 surgeries. I have to tell you all that I don't know how I made through some days - I do know though that coming here was a HUGE help and inspirations. Thank you all so much for sharing your lives and the lives of your children!!! Can ya tell that I'm in one of those sentimental, mushy kind of moods with all the birthday doings around here?!?!?
ROBIN: Congratulations on your new granddaughter!!! Do the stores in your area have any frilly pink baby clothes left?!? Sorry to hear about your back - all I can say is I feel your pain, I have 3 herniated discs in my neck and 2 in my lower back with pinched nerves so I have a pretty good idea of what you're going through! Hang in there! Prayers for you and for Chase that things will work out for the bestest!
SUSAN: Glad to hear you and your family had a great time in Florida!!! Add me to the list of jealous people, I would just about kill for 70 degree weather about now - it's 20 degrees out now and snowing!!! Have I mentioned lately that I hate winter?!? LOL
ANNIE S: Prayers going out that you and Sonny get good news at the urologist appointment Thursday.
Well, wish us luck on Wednesday. Alison has an appointment with the surgeon and I'm really hoping that we can cross him of the frequent flier program. So far, Alison does not need to go back to the cardiologist, the opthamologist doesn't need to see her again until she turns 3, and her thyroid studies have come back normal. It would be great to see a whole month on the calendar without a single DR's appointment for her!!!
Hugs and prayers to all!

Susan - We were supposed to be in FL last week! I would have just croaked if you would have been in Universal the same day we were supposed to be there and I didn't know it! LOL But, as it turned out, we had to reschedule our trip. Our friend's daughter ended up in the hospital. Not a fun way to spend spring break!
And, have you noticed that several people have been having trouble getting on to chat, BB and the message board? Is there something up with that? Just thought I'd ask.
Robin - the other one! LOL Sorry to hear your back is out. Glad to hear you finally have a girl to spoil! Did you get the Y straightened out?
Maggie's new school thearapies are going well so far. I was so nervous about all of it and I'm still mad they won't give her the hearing therapy she has had for 3 years through EI. But, I'm dealing with it.
Take care everyone.

Well I just started on ww and I have been so happy with it ...I did the atkins before and its just didn't seem to work for me...rememeber those of you that are on atkins you must only be on it for 6 months to nine months then get off because it can cause some kidney problems..I do believe thats in the book...
I was so proud I lost 11 lbs in one week...my first week...
Sonny goes back to the doctor this Thursday for his urology check up let's hope its good news..

Happy Birthday to all I have missed...

Just talked to Robin. She's having mega back pain, and now has a TENS Unit, which is not really helping at all. Chase has a hernia, and the behavior he had that was SO good is now terrible at school. (although still pretty good at home). He has gone back to climbing under the table at school, throwing pencils, saying "no thank you" when it's time to do math, and using bad words. She is getting lonnnnnnng reports from his aide with plenty of sad faces and exclamation points. Please pray!! Otherwise, she is enjoying being a granny to a beautiful baby girl~ although she is not fond of the baby's name(Ella Dale). Robin is affectionately calling her Maizie Grace. Robin says to tell everyone HI and she'll be back online as soon as her back is better!

Happy Birthday to those Bday Kids!!!
SUSAN... Do you have to make me jealous? FL w/o me?:( My DH is leaving for FL w/o me Thur. What a double whammie.
ROBIN...Where are you girl?? Is your back still Bad?:(
Good news:) That cute boy of mine stopped climbing up in those cabinets once I removed those bottles that contained liquids that shake. Of course he has found something new. He now climbs in the cabinet under the sink and shuts the door. That's okay with me because I never keep anything harmful down there. I don't need that padded cell after all, well at least not for the last 4 days or so:^)

Hi there Uno Mas!

HEATHER: It's great to see you posting again!

Happy belated birthday to LINDY! Hope it was a great one!

Happy 1st birthday today to ALISON!!!
~
We had the BEST weekend!!! The kids are out of school for a 2 week Spring break, so we planned a quick trip to Florida. I was REALLY in need of some SUN....and LOL I got more of it than I bargained for, and now everyone but Emily is a bit sunburned. I always make sure to cover her up in sunscreen, but somehow I missed myself and parts of the boys so we are in a bit of pain right now! We went to Universal's Island's of Adventure on Friday......GREAT amusement park! I have to push the Entertainment book again here: We bought one last year for $15 and saved hundreds of dollars, so we ordered another one this year. When I called to get our hotel room, I asked what the room rate was and the woman said "$139". I said, "and what is it with the Entertainment book"? She says "$79". We spent 2 nights, so that book has paid for itself several times already!! You can get them for any big city, and there are hundreds of coupons or discounts for restaurants, entertainment, etc, in addition to the hotel discounts. We spent Saturday on the beach at Daytona Beach Shores, and the kids had a blast playing in the sand. The water was a bit on the cold side, but they didn't seem to care at all. I was amazed by how many people were swimming. Jordan said it was the best time he's EVER had in his whole life. We came home with hundreds of shells too.....searching for the best ones is so much fun for Terry and I. He even got up before 5am yesterday and went back to the beach to get a few more, and got some great sunrise photos. I'll post some pics of the kids soon at the Island. I'm not sure if this will make sense, but I'll try....on Saturday night we went to Olive Garden. We usually order water to drink, just to save a little $$$. Everyone in the family is OK with that, except for Emily. She is not crazy about water at all. She took one drink, and said "Mom, tell Jessica to bring Sprite". I kept asking her to reapeat it cause I just wasn't sure what she meant (her best friend's name is Jessica, and I couldn't figure out what Em meant). Finally, she looks a bit annoyed with me and says the same sentence again very slowly, using her hands to put quotation marks around the name Jessica. About that time, our waitress walks up.....and sure enough, her name was Jessica. It was on her nametag, but no one paid attention to it but Emily. LOL but poor Em still didn't get any Sprite!
~
Time to rush off to work now.

I've been meaning to get on here and say Hi for awhile. Wish I had been able to get to Vegas to hang out with you gals, but my Dad's condition was far too precarious at the time. He is actually doing much better than I thought possible, and I'm grateful for every good day that we get.
Hope everyone has seen Jackie's post about Cariana and is already saying prayers. Jackie (Justin's mom) mentioned that we should stuff her snail mail box, and I think that's a great idea. Anyone who would like her address (I have it from teh Christmas card list) e-mail me and I'll send it to you.
~
ROBIN: Where the heck are ya, girl? It's supposed to get in the 50's later this week. I have spring fever so bad that I ordered 3 rosebushes yesterday. I can't wait to start gardening again soon!
~
JELLO: Thanks for the shoulder tonight - you're the bestest.
~
STEFF: I'm so glad you post here - I get the best ideas from you. I think I'm going to start cutting and pasting them all into one document for when my little Ethan starts acting up (MORE!).
~
~ Gloria, sounds like little Jacob may have some sensory issues. Nothing to be really alarmed about, but we went through all this with Ethan. I was observing the same sorts of things that you are, but with some work he is doing GREAT!!! I enabled my e-mail, (it better work!) so if you'd like to send me an e-mail, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
~
OK, it's late and I've got to have both the kids out the door at 7:30 am for Ethans 8am therapy appointment. Makes for an early day. Ugh, I hate MOndays. Hugs and prayers to all who need them! Laura

BTW--I am in sunny California!!! Anybody live near Folsom?? Scott had to be at the Intel site here for most of this next week---so we all drove down for a little spring break in the sun (it was supposed to be raining in Oregon..not sure if the weather had changed though) We just purchased a brand spanking new van and were dying to take it on a road trip. We've been playing in the pool since 10 am ! LOL- Only Oregonians would think 70 degrees is hot! ;) If anyones near Folsom post up and I'll meet you somewhere!! We're all here until Thursday!

mamajeannie--Michelle Mc-the creator of this website-gave me a suggestion several years ago in dealing with Kaylee's stubbornness (and she weighs like 85lbs now at age 10) She said simply say.."I'm counting to 3 and you better be (in the car..shoes on...off the pc..out of bed..) by the time I get to 3. Then count slowly..1..2..3 Sure enough it worked wonders for Kaylee. Unfortunately I often forget until I'm red in the face and out of patience with her! ;) Good luck!

Hello Pamela, mommy with twins.... First, I tried to email you but my mail program is busted for the time being. Pamela, I live in Switzerland, and the laws are not the same as in the USA. I was married for 7 years, my husband was Swiss. He NEVER helped with Sophia...not from day 1. Never grazed a chapter of anything remotely related to DS, never enquired as to how Sophia's speech, physio or school was going, etc. In some strange way though, he does love her very much, but just couldn't manage to jump the 'I didn't have a perfect baby' thing... So, I did all the work. Then one day he decided it was o.k. to start punching us.(Before I go on, know that it shocked him as well that he did what he did...and was a one-off. He never did it again) In a nutshell, I moved into the guestroom for 7 months so he could get the help he needed. He went 2x and never went again. So at 7 months, I moved out with Sophia after never even getting a 'sorry' out of him, not even for Sophia. But wow! Did his attitude change toward her when he just sort of 'assumed' that he could get partial or total custody of my baby!!!! O.K.... living with Armin was one huge SURREAL experience at best, and he's predictably unpredictable, but of all the selfish, mindless assumptions to merely 'throw' out onto the table? I was baffled, and I felt horribly threatened. Suddenly I couldn't think straight, in a foreign country and my mind-bending husband was after my baby. OMG. Pamela I understand your view here...if not, maybe more from a fear standpoint. However, this did have quite the comedic ending... Well I mentioned above how he is sooooo selfish, and no idea of what consequence or conscience is for. So, I put it to him bluntly...and you might want to use some of this technique... Never know, it might help you. First, know that most people just start doing things in a divorce just 'because' they think they are supposed to, think it's how it's supposed to go, or they feel threatened. He might just want to make sure he is continually involved in their lives, Pamela. It might be as simple as that... so, here's what I told my X. "Armin, why do you want any type of custody of Sophia? Well I want to be involved in her life, to help make the decisions for her. (this terrified me...bad enough already) "Well, Armin, who sacrificed her career for Sophia, dropped everything for her baby and did not go back to work? Oh I remember, I DID! Who does all the research for Sophia? I do. Who does her physio and speech therapy? I do. Who drives her around to all the places she needs to get to, and who arranges them? I do. Who makes sure Sophia can make friends and have playmates outside of school? And who makes it to the evening meetings? I do. Who makes all the medical decisions? I do. Who sleeps in hospital when she is there for a week, everynight so you can watch your football games, and who do I ask when I have problems or questions with insurance coverage, etc? You. You have always solved those things, and we are greatful. Armin, but with all those things that I do for her day-in and day-out, I always consult you and let you know what we're doing, don't I? YOU ARE ALREADY INVOLVED all the time. It's always there waiting for you when you're ready. You don't need custody for that. I'm staying in this country so that you can have your daughter in your life. I will not move back to the USA. There is no need to worry that you will not have regular contact weekends or weeknights with Sophia. I've never threatened you before, never once, so I don't understand where this is all coming from. It's just that I have always made all the decisions and research for her, so I should have custody. It makes sense. Nobody's taking her away from you." "O.K. then...but it will be in the contract that I get to see her every other weekend, one night a week with me and if you move to the states, then I get her 4 weeks per year" "Fine", I said. Pamela, THIS ALL TOOK NO MORE THAN 90 SECONDS. You see, he was just afraid I would steal her away, he'd never see her again and that I might leave the country and he'd have no say... but if he had partial custody he'd be able to stop me, under Swiss law (but of course I didn't tell him I already knew that...so I kinda already knew what to say, and what his real fear was) Maybe if you knew what your husband's real fears are... then just alleviate them and play on his being able to keep on being without responsiblity... not have to work on the family. But he does love his boys... he probably just wants to make sure he isn't taken for granted. I know that's all he's done so far, I do understand how you feel. But one thing I also saw after moving out was that Armin was a GREAT deal more interested, careful and just more responsible all-around with Sophia. It's been 2 years and he's taking her to friend's birthday parties... I hope this helps... Take care! Love Heather
P.s. I haven't posted here in almost a year, my life alone has been quite the rollercoaster, but I will post soon. Hello everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ciao for now, Heather
