I have been a member for a long time until a couple of days ago when for some reason I appear to have 'unjoined'. On the bulletine board it says I am a new member but it won't let me post, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

Liv the WHOLE vacation which was 6 days..GRRRR woke up and would say...CAN I GO TO SCHOOL NOW???? She LOVES LOVES LOVES it.On the 9th she has her Christmas performance. They sing Rudolph and are dressed as elves and angels, 1 mrs, santa claus and 1 santa. They sing a hannukah song and they do the signs for the song do you hear what I hear????? The Mariah Carey version its the sweetest thing in the universe. The one kindy teach is so anal she has em start practicing before Halloween. It really is a cute performance. In the end at graduation the whole kindy class signs and sings I believe I can Fly its so sweet.....

I asked Liv in bed last night what she wants from santa. She says...WELLL...I want a HUGE GIANT monster and I push the BIG button and it goes RAHHHHHHH...and she makes this monster face. POOR Santa is gonna get scared.I finally got a hold of her FAVORITE dolly (a tall rag doll) and washed her cause man this thing was a walking GERM....wellnot walking..LOL And the creepy thing is as we were cleaning yesterday we found this tall time out doll. It lookslike a person from behind as it stand in the corner.Liv usta love that thing till she tore the hat off only to find a stocking filled with stuffing. Hi again everyone- Thanks for responding- I am so glad I found this message board. To Melinda- Finally!I have found another parent of a DS child with a trach! I thought Eleni was the only one! Eleni came home with a trach because she couldnt be extubated following her heart surgery. She had several infections and has so much scar tissue in her trachea that it completely obstructs her airway and blocks her voice box. She is supposed to have tracheal reconstructive surgery when she turns 2 years old to hopefully correct the problem. Will your son be able to have some type of surgery as well? I never thought I would adjust to all of Eleni's health issues, but its amazing what you can get used to in time, isnt it? I cant wait to hear all about everyone's kids!

Welcome Kierston and Hi Jennifer! I love your kid's names!
We're all recovering from colds and stomach virus yuck. We had a delayed Thanksgiving dinner Saturday night at my mom and dad's house. Not much fun eating when everyone is sick!
No shopping either. I haven't been out of the house for 5 days! A new world's record I think. Not one I have enjoyed since my 9 year old is now totally bouncing off the walls. He is so into Christmas, it's unbelievable. He's already asked 110 times when we're decorating and worried who is going to sit where to open the gifts this year. I've rearranged the furniture since last year. Oh my gosh. I'm pulling my hair out!
Okay, I feel better now. :) Sorry, had to vent.
We're still fighting with the school over Maggie's therapy and not making much head way. They made an offer to pay for outside therapy, then wanted it on their terms, which the therapist couldn't do, so now we're back to square one. Don't get me started on that!
Maggie's doing better in her eating. I can actually add chopped up turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, etc. to her baby food and she'll eat it. A huge step for her! She's drinking from an open cup by herself, BUT she refuses to touch her food. Or even the spoon for that matter. Oh the joys of sensory issues. :)
I better run. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Who can believe it's gonna be December on Monday? UGH! So little time, so much to do!
See ya - Robin M

Kierston,
I saw your post. My son Noah will be 1 in just a few days. He has DS and also has a trach. He has a GJ tube rather than a G tube. He did not have heart problems, but a condition called esophagael atresia. He was born with 5 cm of his esophagus missing. He received a trach because he suffers from tracheomalacia, bronchiomalacia, and upper airway obstructions. Why does your child have a trach? He is also on CPAP support 24 hours a day to keep his trachea opened. I'm sure we can probably be of some help to one another. There is a wonderful trach message board that I visit sometimes. I think the address is www.tracheostomy.com. It's called Aaron's Tracheostomy Page. If you have not been there, you might find it helpful for any trach related issues. And this board is wonderful for DS related issues. Best luck to your little one. And let me know if I can be of any help and maybe you can be of help to me as well. Thanks!!!

Hi- I am new here and would like to converse with other parents of children with Down Syndrome. My daughter, Eleni is 15 months old and had a rough start. She had the AV Canal repair in October of 2002 and remained in the hospital for 6 months due to complications. She finally came home to us in February 2003 with a trach and a g-tube but she is doing well and is now sitting up by herself. I finally feel that I am at a place where I can start talking about Eleni with other parents and would love to get to know everyone. Thanks for reading all of this! Happy Thanksgiving Weekend :)

I just wanted to say (late) Happy Thanksgiving!!! I don't know many of you but I love this website and am so grateful for all your comments. Just reading about other people and their kids helps me. Bliss is doing wonderful. We are so lucky to have her. She already loves sports. She will sit with her dad and watch Basketball for over an hour. She is such an active child that this is amazing. She gets bumps and bruises all the time right now because she is everywhere and into everything. She crawls everywhere and pulls herself up to everything. She currently has a little bruise on her forehead because she was trying to pull herself up the entertainment center and lost her balance. She has already started to take her first unassisted steps. She is VERY wobbly and is afraid to take more than 1-2 steps. It's just so amazing that she is even willing to take those few steps. Thanks again for this website!!!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone!!
Boy, wish my puter would hurry up and get fixed!!
Just got done shopping and I am broke!! But sure did have fun!!
Kids were looking at their catalogs yesterday and pointing to all the toys they wanted or should I say the page of toys they wanted. Cody brought me the catalog and was going crazy, "I WANT THIS" it was a luggage set. I asked him what he wanted that for and he goes "Go to Ohio and swim trunks!" LOL! Every time we leave the house he asks if we are going to Ohio..LOL. Can't wait till September comes!
Well, sis is leaving for work so I guess I have to get off of here. Miss you all!

AWWW Aimee thats a cute story... hee hee..Tell her next time to give the ladies shirt a TUG...LOL...The funny thing about my girl Liv who is 6 also is that if someone doesn't hear her or ignores her she will LITERALLY TAKE THEIR face and turn it towards her and make em look in her eyes.LMAO. I think its cause her "man" Josh who is autistic has to be reminded sooo many times to look at people she figures OTHER people need help too... LOL

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL...I am SOOO Thankful for all you guys and michelle you too for keeping this website going despite hardships and silly people. Now that is a BIGGIE...(((HUGS))) to you all and have a great DAY!!!!!

BTW yesterday at my old high school Liv and I helped people shop in the store. They set up a GIANT store with warm blankets sleeping bags jackets etcsocks underwesr clothing bathing stuff. Now remember folks when you go to hotels to SAVE all the toiletries and give em up to homeless shelters that is a nice thing to carry round cause its not so big.. Liv and Kyle i sent out to look for kids in line.(there were over 1000 people there) I can't tell you enough how much JOY the kids got out of giving things up to others. It made em happy to make other kids happy and that was the point I was trying to get across.Even Liv who is kinda sttarting to get possessive of her things had a BLAST giving the kids COOL TOYS thens she'd say AWWWW GIMME A HUG...LOL And the child walked down the long line to get in shaking peoples hands and telling em HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!Fun had by all... have a great one

Just wanted to thank everyone for your input I really appreciate it. Just wanted to share a cute story. The other day Kenzie and I were at the grocery store when we are done shopping we get a splash (it's a flavored water drink). Kenzie put it on the counter the casher rang it through and gave it back to Kenzie and started ringing the rest of my groceries, Kenzie said thank you, but she didn't hear her, so Kenzie said thank you, again, the clerk still didn't hear her, so Kenzie said "I welcome".
Happy Thanksgiving all, and I'm thankful for this site and all of you.

Howdy all... hee hee somehow it doesn't sound the same as RO types it.LOL

HI guess what our kids are off school today till Monday. UGGG. I was thinking bout a funny Liv story this morning as I was packing up toys clothes and blankets for something we are ding today. WELL today we are going to my old high school to feed 1000 homeless folks turkey dinners etc.,The kids havebeen gathering up toys and blankets and stuffed animals so they could give em to some kids there.GOOD TOYS mind you. GREAT KIDS I have here I must say. Oh and yes we figured that we may have Olivia in the front as the greeter cause I CANNOT get the child near food. That would be a SNL skit fer sure.People come for a nice dinner and Liv charms the food off their plate. ;O SO in thinking bout this this morn I remembered something funny that happened to me a couple years ago...

Okay my old Catholic high school a few years back had chosen the Down Syndrome Assoc to be part of their Christian service hours and such. So one night Liv Kyle and I went to our DS meeting that hgappens once a month. WELL in the other room (away from the parents ) the kids are watched by a preschool which donates their time AND the students from my old high school to help(they also helped at all the conventions).SO after the meeting I went to get my kiddos from the next room. I walk in (and man these people just LOVED to see Liv once a month) and everyone is kinda snickering. WELL the BOYS from the school are snickering louder and louder when the preschool lady says to me.... ARE YOU MISSING ANYTHING??? I'm thinking NOOOOOOOOOOOO...She lifts up Olivias dress(when Liv was about 3) and to my surprise their is a pair of G string underwear on TOP of her diaper... LMAO. I wanted to dissapear. The boys inally couldn't stand it any longer and LOL so hard and I am thinking THANK GOD they were at least cute ones...LOL I laughed so hard my belly hurt then I remembered back a few hours before when Olivia was helping me fold the laundry... AHA...Well gotta git take it easy and have a FABULOUS HOLIDAY!!!(((HUGS))) Steff

Well again.. my once a month "HOWDY"...
I always read the boards but just never seem to have time to write up... *sigh*..
Today I am sitting here feeling very nervous...
Hubby and I have decided that we have probably babied and mollycoddled the Big Girls for long enough and now we need to encourage more independance...after all Em is 11 and Kate is 9... sooooooo......
Today we allowed tham to ride their bikes to school on their own...without me to escort them...and I am sooooo worried...
I am sure they will be fine, but... well you know...
Im a Mum.. it is my job to worry.

Lewis went to see the Opthalmologist yesterday and all went well.
My main concern was that his eye tends to turn in occaisionally, and especially when he is tired... so we had it all checked out properly.
The found him to have "Mild Pre-Cursive long sightedness and a Mild Astigmatism" which could be causing his eye to turn sometimes while attempting to focus. At this stage it is all very vey mild and they do not recommend glasses, especially with his activity levels being so HIGH... but they will check him every 6 months for deterioration, and estimate by age 7 he will need glasses... But I think it will be MUCH easier for everyone by then!!

I have been given the job of running and organising our local KinderGym!! Today was my first day and I think I did OK... I set up a great circuit with the balance beams and lots of steps to climb, parrallel bars, uneven bars.. the whole lot. The class usually has around 10-15 kids aged from 12months to 5 years. I also have use of the rollerskating rink in the next room, so I took all the kids out there with 12 GIANT Fitballs and let them chase them round the rink... They had sooo much fun!! and so did all the Mums!! I dont know if I will be taking this on permanently or if they will try to find someone qualified to instruct Gym.. but I will enjoy it in the meantime!!

Well, this weekend is the weekend we put up all our Christmas lights!! I get soooo excited this time of year. I got out all the old lights last weekend and did the big testing of the globes and replacing the duds... ended up throwing out 3 whole strings of lights... I think they had seen one summer on the roof too many... so I am going shopping tomorrow (payday) for MORE NEW lights!! Even more exciting!!

Well... five more minutes until the girls are due home... I am shaking....
I will go for now... and stand out the front to see if I can see them coming round the corner...

Until next time...
HUGGLES...

Tammy...

Steff: Thanks for the words of experience and encouragement about the rolling and sitting! I know that when it's her time Alison will be rolling all over the place. But like ya said it gets a little discouraging at times that she's not doing some of it yet. Then I just remind myself that her little tummy has been through alot in her short little life and needs time to strengthen! Needless to say patience is definitely not on of my strong points - but ya better believe I'm getting better about realizing this little gal has her own agenda and to heck with what I think!
We had Alison's first session with the new SI instructor and WOW!!! what a difference there is between the way this gal works and the old one!!! I didn't have to ask what the purpose of some of the activities she did with Alison was - told me right out! She also seemed a little bothered about some of the things that the old one wasn't doing with Alison - things like grasping an object and then getting her to let it go into a container, passing things from one hand to the other, etc. Said she was going to call Alison's service coordinator and try to get some additional specific goals written into the new IFSP that she really feels should have been put in by the old instructor. If first impression is a good indicator I think we may have a keeper here!!!
Just want to say to all of you who are traveling for the Thanksgiving weekend have a safe journey. And hope everyone enjoys the holiday!
Barb

I tried to include this in my previous message, but it wouldn't go through. Maybe the message was too long.
.
I want to say to the people having problems posting to this board and the BB ... (getting "bad referrer" errrors)... I think I have figured out the problem. I have the same problem when I use my computer that has a pop-up blocker and cookie blocker etc. When I try to post or log-in to the site, I get errors and can't do so. When I disable the blocking software, and refresh the message board page, and then try to post ... it works. I don't know why this is happening. I don't believe the message board uses cookies. It does, however, log your ip address when you post so that we have the ability to bann the bad-guys. I think some filtering software blocks this and causes the error when you try to post. Does that make sense?
.
I think the Bulletin Board does use cookies so that it can recognize you when you return, and you won't have to login everytime you visit the BB. If you have cookies blocked, you won't be able to login or post. There is no way for me to turn this off, unless we allowed everyone and anyone to post ... which was the way it was in the past and turned out to be a disaster.

Hi Uno peeps! I wanted to let you know that I've finally set up a new calendar, just in time for all those November birthdays. Happy Birthday Luke, Olivia, and Kyle! I'm counting on your moms to help me test the new calendar by posting your birthdays. It takes a little trial and error to get the hang of it, but it has some cool new features like the pop-up box so you can add more info about your event.
.
The other great thing about this new calendar is that it is remotely hosted, so that it won't go down everytime our webhost decides to move our site to a new server. Oops, sorry, I'm getting too techie now. Simply put, it works! and I expect it to be more reliable than our past version. Many thanks to the people who have made contributions to the development fund ... your donation made the switch possible. The next development project in the works is bringing back the photo album with new security features. I hope to have it going before Christmas.
.
Welcome back Radonna! It sounds like you are doing great. There are so many people I wanted to catch up with ... will write more soon.
.
Okay then, please experiment with the calendar and I will try to answer any questions you have. Mostly it's trial and error and not forgetting to look for the yellow "view calendar" button at the top of the entry page.
Thanks,
Michelle

hi welcome everyone. Sorry I could only read back a couple of posts but miss you guys. Tricia I read about the moms extended weekend out. Of course you know that sounds FABULOUS!!!!!
BARB ....I read your post and wanted to let you know Liv had a real hard time rolling over and getting to sitting position. One of her arms was messed up due to a medical problem for the first 6 months of her life but her muscle tone was really poor. I did find that I could sit her up at 7 months and she would stay sitting up. I did however not just sit her up I would go through the motions with her on the way to sit up. Liv pulled to stand before she ever got fromthe floor to sitting. Those tummy muscles had the lowest tone I have seen on a kid ever. BUT she did it.I usta get so frustrated cause you know you wait for your kids to roll over and get to sitting up but Liv didn't do those till over a year old. She had surgery at 8 months to correct her breathing and arm movement problem but I really think her tone in that belly needed to be stronger before she could do any of that.

Happy Birthday Luke!
and Happy Birthday Liv......I'm sorry I missed it!
I am just waiting for our bad luck streak to end......
Nicolas has Bronchitis and is having regular breathing treatments. This Pulmocourt stuff is 277 dollars for 2 weeks worth! OMG! Kids all had LICE Friday.....so Guess what I've been doing since??
Geeze that is nasty!
Our big Freezer died so we lost all our meats, veggies, etc...Our Fridge is teeny tiny so you can't fit anything in it. So, I guess I'll be making MORE frequent trips to Walmart for fresh meats and veggies!
I will spare you all the details on all the CRUD that has been going on....Please pray that things turn around for us, financially too..
I hope everyone is well!
Talk to you soon, Jennifer

Hi everyone!
Well, Alison and I had a great visit last weekend with my family in Massachusetts! Her great-aunts have fallen madly in love with her and wanted her to stay there with them!!! Offered to send them 13 yr old Caitlin but, no go!!! My aunt said she is done with teenaged girls!!! Her daughter is now 27 and expecting her 3rd son any day now! I have to say that Alison did amazingly well on this trip starting with what turned out to be a nasty ride out there in snow and wind - took almost 12 hrs to do what normally would take me about 8 hrs! And then all the "pass the baby" with complete strangers... complete and total disruption of our usual schedule... and then the 9 hr ride home in fog as thick as pea soup! Not a peep out of this little trooper... only time she got fussy was coming home for about the last half hour!
She also had her first review for early intervention this past Tuesday. I requested a change in her Special Instruction teacher because the woman was very unreliable.... calling at the last minute to cancel or reschedule appts at least once a month (Alison was seeing her only twice a month!!!). We're also increasing PT to twice a week because Alison did not achieve some of the goals set in her initial eval - rolling from back to tummy, prop-sitting. Both her PT and I feel that those things should come relatively quickly now that Alison no longer has the colostomy bag to work against ( YIPPEE, still!!!). She'll also start receiving OT because of some feeding and tongue-thrusting issues which have started since the last go round with n-g and o-g tubes the last surgery. EI is also going to "loan" us some books and videos on signing so that we can all start learning together! All in all, I am very pleased with the changes being made but hope that the new SI teacher will be better than the last one since she is from the same agency (apparently you have to stay with the same agency unless there is a really BIG, BIG problem!).
Oh, and Alison's sister Sarah is standing over me now telling me that I have to tell you guys that she lost her first tooth today!!! Let me tell, this kid has been absolutely obsessing over when she would lose her first tooth since the started kindergarten last year!
Jackie: Tell Emily congrats on her gold medal!!! I for one am very impressed because I think I am probably the world's worst bowler! And what a great idea to pair Debbie and Emily together to work on Em's reading skills! I enjoy reading Debbie's posts and really do hope that she will one day write her autobiography!
Mary L: Glad to see that Patrick survived his experience with stitches - and you too!!! Unfortunately, that is one area we have WAY, WAY too much experience with in this household!!! Four trips to the ER this summer alone - everyone but Alison had to be sewn together at one point or another!!! And what is it with people??? I get the same thing with Alison - what a cute little boy! - and the child is wearing a PINK DRESS!!!! Some days I wonder!!!
All right guys, I think I've babbled long enough! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Hope to catch up with some of you in chat later!

Yesterday was our Special Olympics bowling tournament here....Em won a gold medal...but..LOL...they had her heated wrong...had misfigured her average so she had to bowl with better bowlers so dont know if she really earned this ...or if it was a...gimmee...but none the less she is happy and had a great time there and later at the dance. \

After the bowling we went in and ended up sharing a booth in the cafe with Debbie from our site and her boyfriend. In the course of conversation we decided that Debbie would be a great choice to help Emily with reading improvement...and this amazing woman came up with wonderful ideas of writing challenging words...etc on file cards as they work together...so after Thanksgiving Emily and Debbie will become a duo......

It must be the time of the year... everyone does homecomings & reunions close to Thanksgiving time and look at all us "old" visitors dropping back in at Uno Mas !!

I, too used to be a faithful (daily !!) poster, but time gets away !! I hoep everyone is great ! I am so bummed to hear about the bad news with the photo album. That was my favorite part of this site.

We are here in Massachusetts, just going about our daily routines. Erin is in school & LOVES it. SHe is making some great strides. Communication ( as always ) is the point I wait for. But it's coming... slowly but surely. SHe loves to sing & dance, is still as physical as ever... her PT has to try & keep up with her. He takes her into the gymnasium with all the older elemntary school kids & she can definitely hold her own !! She is still quite a peanut.... all that running around keeps her at just about 20 pounds still, but she is getting taller !! ... can just about see the top of the kitchen table.

We had a pretty rough year... my husband & I are divorcing and my 6 year developed type 1 Diabetes... so 2003 wasn't my favorite year.

Anyone else dealing with 2 homes and a child with DS ? He only sees the children for a few hours on SUndays, but he has a hard time relating to Erin... the boys (her 2 older borhters) report back that she is frustrated and banging her head against the wall. He doesn't attend meetings at school or seem too interested in strategizing, but then again... that has a lot to do with why we are divorcing. After re-readign that it sounds like we disagree over Erin & DS issues... not the case... we disagree about EVERYTHING... and it is hard because I want to make this as smooth for the kids as we can, but I need his cooperation, and that isn't going to happen. Has anyone dealt with courts & exes ?... any advice would be so appreciated.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving !!
Allisa

Hi everyone. I'm new again to this site. I use to visit and chat quite often, but got busy and didn't get back into it. It's been about 3 years. I guess what happened is that when I came back everyone is new and didn't know everyones story anymore. I always enjoyed visiting with everyone here. Well anyways I'm back and asking for help. I've posted my problem on the bulletin board, if you could read it and give me some feedback I sure would appreciate it. Hope to get to know you all again. Thanks

Awww.....
Patrick, Sorry to hear of the stitches and boo-boos:( Usually the hard part is putting them in here and I usually take them out for a less stressful event:)LOL Can you say babies. I have a soon to be 11 year old, a 12 year old and a 58 year old. Takes an act of congress to get them to GO to the doctor just to get the blasted things and then they just hand me the snippers to take them out:)LOL Very trusting souls I have here:)LOL
Hope the bandaid comes off soon and the pictures are pretty when ya actually get to go and get them:)

Good morning everyone! Well, I took Patrick to get his stitches out yesterday and ~oh my gosh~it was worse then when he had them put in! I had to practically lay on top of him while the nurse held his head and the doctor took out the stitches. Every time I would look at it I would feel my stomach turn and had to turn away. So I just want to say a big thank you to all docs, and nurses and paramedics out there- I dont know how you do your job but I am grateful that you can do it. So now Patrick has a gauze strip and a band aid over it-so much for getting my Christmas cards done early. :( He's actually being very good with the band-aid. I thought for sure he would be picking at it but he really leaves it alone. When you ask him how his owie is, he points to it and puts a sad look on his face-it's pretty cute.

OK~I have to go get Declan off the school. Have a great day everyone!
