Hello everyone! I just wanted to check in as I haven't posted for a while. Things, as usual, are very busy around here. Patrick is doing well. He is really trying to talk now. He says sentences all the time you just cant understand what he's saying~which always makes me feel so bad! He turns 4 on Oct. 13 so I'm trying to plan his party. We had Nora's christening party on Sept. 14, dh is turning 40 on Oct 5, and then it's Patrick's b-day~I am partied out! I hope everyone here is doing well and as usual I hope to start posting more often. It seems that as soon as I read posts something comes up that I have to tend to and I can't post. LIke now~Patrick just went upstairs by Nora and I have to go get him because you never know if he's going to be the loving big brother or the jealous kid who's mad he's not the center of attention any more! So have a great day everyone!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Lands End at sears still has capris on line, they are not in the stores. They just happen to fit my daughter perfect as pants. I e-mailed them and asked them to start a clothing line for down syndrome. I dont know if everyone has the same hard time as we do looking for a winter jacket for Kim .Her arms are so short that all the jackets are to long in the arm . Anyways just wanted to let you all know that we can still buy capris in the fall.

Hi Steff,
Yes Haley is still in gymnastics - loving it!! Can't wait til next year when she can do it in the special olympics too!!! It's one of her FAVORITE things to do! And she does awesome headstands. It has been terrific for her. She is double jointed lots so she's very nimble. We do have to work on balance with her (she's very flat footed) so not only does she have fun, she's workin' those muscles and balance too!

HI!!!!!

Haley you are such a sweet cuz. You sound so mature for a 12 year old.ENJOY your cuz....

SUE!!! Is haley still in gymnastics? Olivia will start in 2 weeks. I am going to co-teach the class as I used to work there and they need an extra hand for that class. THIS WAY it'll be free for her too. COOL HUH???

Olivias nutritionist is very concerned about her weight. She actually gained 2 pounds in the 6 weeks since she started with her. SCARY. I followed her suggestions to the tee. So since we have seen her again about 2 weeks ago I started to have Olivia outside ALL the time. We are doing along with her 30 minute walk every day, skateboarding. She LOVES to go out with Kyle in the morning before school and skateboard on her belly. It's great cause shehas to REALLY use those tummy muscles to keep her head up and her legs from scraping on the ground. Any suggestions of activities that your children like to do that are slightly aerobic would be highly appreciated.

ROBIN so you have a great weekend that I am completely jealous of and you don't post about it???HUH.... 2 morrow I am going to the Mattel outlet by my house .we live right by the mattel headquarters, and shop like crazy. Its the best you guys and Liv is DYING for a dollhouse and a NICE doctors kit for her birthday in Nov..

Linda are you still busy as all get out?

RO whats the next step? What type of patients are you looking to care for?

In november I am taking a web page design class. COOL HUH?? My dad is sending me as he wants me to run his website and create a new one for his business. Can't start back to school till Jan for my child life program so I must keep myself busy. Thursday I am going to school to help the kids paint Starry Night in the kindy class. One thing I love about their school is that it is an arts magnet and they are exposed to many musicians(the l.a philharmonic comes to play a couple times a year) the kids learn instruments, and they learn all about famous artists and recreate their masterpieces. I swear Kyle knows more about artists than I do...Oh yea Liv broke her glasses again yesterday and THANKFULLY the lady at the glasses store loves her and gave us a new pair(they had the same size and colr) for free. You are only supposed to get 1 a year for free if they break but PHEW she took one look at Livs prescription and said I can't make her wait here take these... Whatta Godsend. Sheesh I hope this childs script doesn't get any stronger. The last time she went it went from 5.75 to 7.0 . That is for closeup. She is VERY VERY farsighted and this child has diligently worn her glasses since 10 months.Well gotta git. Hope to chat on messenger with anyone who is still awake.(((HUGS))) steff

Cindy, you are making me cry! I totally agree with you on how life is...Courtney is a major part of this family. None of us can imagine life without her. She is reading, writing, and doing simple math also. And is VERY popular! We are planning our Buddy Walk right now. All the kids in our neighborhood are coming and it looks like half the school wants to come also. We sure didn't think our first Buddy Walk would be this big...but it looks like it is gonna be a HUGE HIT!
I am soo excited...and soooo broke! Looks like Santa's sleigh may be broken this year. But that is another story!
Talk to yall later. I wish I had time for chat, but maybe next week,
Love yall....

HIYA Cindy Lou!!!! :)

Yes I so agree with you about the pictures. It has been so good for Olivia. As far as inclusion goes I am taking it a year at a time. I can't even envision jr. high or high school as of yet so be it.Some times I hafta look at it a day at a time with Liv.Olivia is just now starting to make friends at kindergarten it is sorefreshing to see her run to em in the morning. A little girl just invited Olivia to play with her after school next week I am so excited for Liv cause well all this stuff is starting to begin for her. Her man joshua in her sp ed class is now officailly moved furthest away from Olivia. Apparently the 2 can't get enuf of each other..LOL.

Can I brag a bit on my boy??? Kyle just got his CAT scores back from 1 st grade. He got 96% overall on all his scores. I am amazed at how quickly the child learns. AND even more amazed at his ability to have the entire school accept Olivia and make sure she is doing the right thing. Kyle told me Wed. that Olivia was YIKES pulling up her top at the cafeteria . Instead of being mortified he RAN as fast as he could to her to get her to stop. Him and his 2nd grade pals have known her for so long that she is just part of the gang and they try to teach her how to behave at school. Fortunately the T.A. got to Liv faster than Kyle and had her pull her shirt back down. His teacher came up to me the other day and said that Kyle and his friends ALWAYS go see Olivia at lunch and play with her for a minute and give her a HUG. Isn't that sweet? His lack of embarrassment and love for her shows all the kids that she is just loved and wanted by them so they all take that attitude with her.it is so refreshing to see. His teacher told me that and she said she thinks Kyle as cool as he tries to be is the BEST bro around and she loves to watch him go see Liv... Cute huh???Well gotta go get a mouse for Monty the snake Liv is sick she loves to watch him eat em.GROSS!!!!Soo off i go have a great weekend and HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUINN... I dunno this is the first year I have ever felt much emotiuon about my girl getting older. I am so proud of Olivia she is a great kid overall and is such a champ and is learning so much despite how difficult it is for her. I so admire her perserverance... HUGS steff

Kelly- I feel emotional every year at Kaylee's birthday because I can't believe how different life with her is-different then I expected meaning MUCH Better then I was told it would be. She's just one of the kids in the family, ya know? She's reading and writing and doing basic math--and she's SO popular. So far this school year we have received 3 birthday invitations from "typical" (meaning non-disabled) kids at school and she's gone to two of them. By herself..which is a bit of a worry. I haven't known the parents of these kids, but I've known other parents that knew them and reassured me that they were responsible parents. I called the first mom and said..I don't know if you know that my daughter has Ds and she said..I heard there was something going on..but Jenna just raves about Kaylee every day so I hope she can come.

Anyways, all that to say - yes I feel emotional because I can't imagine life without Kaylee--though the daily behavior issues and speech and hearing concerns make me a bit of a basket case. I always want to make some grand speech to all our friends and family around birthday time about how wonderful THEY have all been, how Great God has been and how thankful we are to have Kaylee--but it always sounds way to sappy in my head to I never do.

Steff-so glad the pictures are working. When they say "A pictures worth a thousand words" I think it's really true for Kaylee. Your so good to go and actually take pictures girl! 'Liv will do great with you and Jeff supporting her and I agree 100% about cutting through the BS and being completely open with the sp ed department. I've always felt that we really need to work hard to keep the lines of communication completely open and honest-and that that will really benefit Kaylee. I do believe in elementary school inclusion is truly the best choice most of the time. Not sure how jr high and high school are going to work out..

Donnita-thank you for the information..anyone else ever had the bright spot on the heart??

Annette-we are a Christian family and I've always prayed that Kaylee would understand her need for a Savior and have a relationship with Jesus Christ, recognizing that He died for her and wants her to be with him in Heaven. I have prayed this for years, never sure how Kaylee would develope. For years she just listened when I talked about it and when I asked if she wanted to pray and become a "Christian" she would say no. Her little sister made a committment to Christ and Kaylee still refused. One day we were driving to my parent, up in the country. Just me and the girls. Kaylee was 9, Emma 7. We were talking about God, the earth He created and Heaven. Kaylee out of the blue said she wanted Jesus to live in her heart. Emma and I were shocked. I pulled the car over and we prayed together and all the time I'm thinking "is she getting it?" and I'm crying. We talked some more and she seemed to understand what she was doing. We continued on to my parents house. About 8 months later we're driving on the same country road to my parents house-not having discussed what had happened for months. I said "Kaylee, do you remember what happened on this road last year.?" she said "I prayed mom." I 'bout fell over. I said "what did you pray about?" "Jesus come in my heart mom."...Anyways, I don't know if you were talking about a Christian baptism, but YES I believe our kids can know God and that spirituality is a great thing for everyone! ;)

HI AGAIN. Now you will never get rid of me cause its FRIDAY and I have TIME!!!LMAO....BTW Tammy Kyle wants to move near you too he DUG the lizard photo. Can ya bring one to the west coast get together???LOL,,,Picture that thing getting away on the plane trip... YIKES!!!

I wanted to thank you Cindy for your advice on the pictures for Olivia. I made her a board for school. We took pictures of the kids standing in line(with Liv in em too) and sitting down on the rug and doing small group work etc. I laminated em at school got a board bought velcro glued it to the back of the pictures and the board as well./ Liv has been MUCH better behaviorally since we bagan that THANKS. Her aide thanks you too.I am gonna give her aide the link to uno. Her name is Miss Charobey so look for my friend . She's awesome with Olivia and we dig her... BTW can I ask you all a ??? Here s a dilemma in school we have had . I have noticed that there is soo much BS in the sp. ed program. So much talking aout and FAR less helping solve situations. Well yesterday I got a clall from the inclusionist saying that if iwere her child she would take her out of sp ed in the afternoon. Then there was other thinfgs she sqid. WELL jeff and i are talking about it afterwards and man ogh man ALL the FREAKING things tht people tell you that they don't want you to say to someone else etc. BS cause NOTHING gets done when all are so scared to rock the boat. Well afeter Jeff and I discussed it we went to the sp ed teacher and toldher NO MORE BS no more secrets cause the only way we can help Olivia is to \be UPFRONT and honest and we do NOT think our child is perfect and we do not get easily offended so we let everyone know whatever is said to us will be said to someone else . Cause NADA gets solved when we can't say this to this person or that person etc. BS BS I HATE THAT PART OF SP> ED. I do believe we have a newfound respect from all after we had the talk. No secrets no holding back. Anyone else feel that way??? Gotta git BYE

Kelly ~ Happy birthday to Quinn! I felt very emotional when both of my daughters turned one. I just loved my babies and didn't want them to grow up. Sarah just turned two and I got teary eyed then, too. She had a really tough first year because of her heart but her second year flew by. She has made so much progress but she still seems like a baby since she isn't walking and refuses to eat solid foods. She has developed a great sense of humor and keeps us in stitches. Enjoy your baby, he will be a big boy in no time!

hi everyone!!!!

I miss it here. Life is real busy right now and I haven't had any time to post..WAAAAA. I did however have to zero out the puter as we had a virus. After I did that I had no time to get back on.. ;( Lets see I hear RO PASSED!!! Was there any doubt girl?? NEVER!!! Melinda I hear Noah is doing better. Tell those nurses to keep the childs CLOTHES ON.. Christophers heart is fine...YAY. Carriana is tolerating chemo well. WTG...and the CHASE man is getting dare I say CHUBBY???? LOL...Robin I hope they get his stuff worked out and dare I say I am EXTREMELY GREEN with envy after hearing bout your weekend.

Well lets see what is up here.. Hmm. Olivia is DIGGING on kindergarten. She is adjusting and all is well with a few minor adjustments. (lol she told her aide the other day that she was gonna tell her mommy she didn't let her have lunch and that her aide was pinching her...My little manipulative smart kid whatta stinkpot...She admitted what she said and that she made it up today at school and all is well with the world again..;) Her speech teacher is FLABBERGASTED at Livs language and talking abilities. She told me Olivia is the STAR of the speech group. Also she came up to me the other day and said that she has never seen a child with ds talk like she does in her 25 yrs of teaching. COOL HUH???Then we laughed cause Liv was bringing a note to the office and found that she had to give it to her teacher. SO Liv started to hand it to the speech teacher and as the lady was gonna take it Liv l;ooked up at her and said ...NO THAT's NOT YOURS...Took it v back and said . It's HERS silly and handed it to me. Very good use of the pronouns. I am so glad she is not having those difficulties so we can concentrate on her really poor fine motor. I have the teacchers justb working on prewriting skills. Like playdough and making BIG letters rather than small ones like the opther kids cause she was getting frustrated as all get out cause frankly she is not there yet.So another thing we are doing is taking er out of the sp. ed afternoon class in NOV.She will go back to her afterschool rpogram after we work out those services. Her sp. ed program after her reg ed kindy is just not right foer her all the other kids are far beyond Olivia and her teacher has a hard time being so rigid and working on Olivias individual needs. The kindergarten teachers in reg ed are FAR better than the sp,. ed teacher at doing that. Weird huh? So we are just gonna plan on fully including her thru the school years at her school rather than the sp. ed appraoch. We'll see as time goes by and perhaps next year Liv will be far more prepared in her fine motor skills to handle the sp. ed class. What else. Oh yea we were robbed sta night. UGGGG. and there was a shooting down the street at a party sat. night. UGGG. Kyle my BIG MOUTHED Mr. KRAVITZ son made the mistake of telling my hubby sunday afternoon that I thought the cop who took the report was CUTE... TATTLETALE I have been teased by Jeff bout that for a week. last time I let him overhear me...That's it hugs and more hugs have a great WEEKEND... Steff

I was just wondering if anyone else felt emotional when their child turned one? Quinn was so sick when he was born, and the day was really terrifying. Now that it is a year later, I am overwhelmed with how many things have happened. I was just curious if anyone else had a similar experience. I have been having flashbacks all day.
I am so proud of my little boy. And I am so glad that he chose me to be his mommy.

Question: My sil's friend just had an ultrasound and was told there was a "bright spot on the left sight of the heart" and that it is a marker for Down syndrome in about 50% of the cases. Have you guys heard of this "bright spot"? They want her to do an amnio, which I believe she is declining. She is going to take the AFP test though. Post up if you've heard of this..

Evening all!
Guess I worked too late tonight and didn't make it home in time to catch anyone in chat.... I feel deprived!!! Oh well.... there's always Sunday night right!
Today was one of those days that let's ya know that summer is coming to an end.... it was only in the mid 60's and I noticed that some of the trees are starting to turn already!!! I am not ready for winter yet. Fall is just way too short here, almost as short as summer! On the up side, at least it means all the road work will be coming to an end for the winter soon!!!
ROBIN: I saw that show you were talking about with the guy with the worms from walking barefoot in Tennessee too! I told the girls "See, I told you you could get worms from going barefoot!!!" We all thought it was one of the grossest things we'd seen in a long time! It was also weird the way those docs got sooo excited by it.
I hope the docs can get Chase's meds worked out real soon you all. Hang in there! And isn't it amazing what a little pudge on a kid can do!!! Alison's surgeon can't get over what a chunk she has become because we were all so very worried about weight gain when she was first born. It took her about 3 months to gain a pound and she hasn't looked back since!!! She could be a Michelin tire commercial baby!!!
RO: Since it seems everyone wants you to come be a nurse near them, add Western NY to the list! Ya won't get worms walking barefoot here..... just frostbite if ya do it in the winter!!!
BETTY: Glad to hear that Christopher's heart studies came back fine!!!
LINDA: Let's do our own Western NY get together!!! I'm out of the knee immobilizer and off the pain meds so I'm up for a little roadtrip.... Rochester... Batavia???? Let's talk!
TAMMY: My Sarah (6 yr old) has decided that she wants to go and live with you!!! Showed her the picture of that Thorny Devil lizard thing ( I still say yuck!!!) and she just thought that was the coolest thing she has ever seen!!! Then started telling her about the other critters you have in Australia and she was sold. Wants to ship her stuff to your house! LOL She is just a little concerned about one thing though..... Wants to know if you guys get headaches from being upside down all the time, after all you're almost on the bottom of her globe!!! I thought I'd burst out laughing in her poor little face when she said that. So let us know if she needs to bring a bottle of Tylenol with her!!!
STEFF: Missing ya, hope things are okay! Let us know.
Okay, rambled on long enough. Gotta go give Alison a bottle and then it's off to bed for us!

Afternoon uno world....
How is everyone? Went for my mamogram this am and got a big smie from the nurse when I asked her how it went =0) Amen to that! Speaking of nurses, RO.....we need nurses so bad here in Michigan darling, so come on over!!!!! I know you DON'T want to go to Tenn to work as a nurse cause even though you will think I am lying... I am not...I saw a new show on TLC..I think it is called residents. It follows the lives of residents as they become doctors and this is filmed in tenn!!! Okay, here is the awful part and now I need to make Susan and deborah move outta there. There was a man who died on the show and the autopsy showed it was from WORMS (yes you read that right) and he got them from WALKING BAREFOOT ON DIRT IN TENNESSEE!!!! The resident said you can get them from doing that in Tennessee!!!!! Susan Louise...you keep shoes on them babies! And what is this about you going to Niagra falls???
Jackie.. I cant wait til the buddy walk!!! Hug those kids for me!
Pat... I am here. I never seem to make it on the puter at night any more =0( I fall asleep sooooo early. I think I am working wayyyyyy too hard! Dave is taking the boys and going to the trailer to get it ready for winter and I get to stay home, and finish the floor and go shop with my friends at the new super walmart and super sams and go to a antique festival and out to dinner... I feel like I won a prize being able to do this!!!!
Chase has become a super monster child again. I know it is because he hasnt been on a stimulant for a month. So when dave takes him back Mondy to Ann Arbor he is going to have a long talk with the dr about it. Although I know Chase wil show him what we are talking about, the kid is a walking talking non stop moving machine. he has also much to my dismay....gained alot of weight, it simply blows my mind to know that 11 months ago this child weighed 48 pounds and we had to force feed him and he now weighs in at 70 pounds!!!! When you hug him you get a body to hug not a skeleton. But he was taking a bath and I went in to make sure he had his hair rinsed well and OMG, I saw two rolls and some dimples on his belly!!!! We are talking Chase, skin and bone boy. Now that he has a appetite that is all he wants to do is eat. We have totally changed what we buy and let hi have and I am sure he dont get why although I try to explain to him. We let him eat but it is fruits and veggies and pretzels and sherbet and air popped corn, those kinds of things, where as he used to get a king size pkg of reeses and a huge bowl or two of ice cream before bed to try to get weight on him.
Steff....how are you darling?????Long time no post!!!
I was just going to say hi to everyone by naming you but if i do, I just know I will forget one or two and then I would feel bad so..... {{{HUGE CYBER HUGS}}} to you all. I hope every one is ok and doing good!!!!
love and huggers, Robin

Hello everyone:
I want to thank everyone for remembering Christopher in their prayers. He went for his ultrasound on his heart this morning and we got the results back about an hour ago and thank God his heart is normal and the murmur they heard is inncent and that he will out grow it.....God does answer prayers and I'm so thankful!!!
just wanted to thank everyone here...This site has been so helpful to us..
I took Christopher to school to have his pictures made after his dr. appointment this morning and he was so afraid that I was going to leave him...He goes to school twice aweek and he crys everytime his mommy leaves him, though he is fine after they start circle time.. I got to talk to his speech th. while I was there and she said he is such a bright little boy the catches on to signs so easy and that he follows direction and that he is a very good little boy. He is doing really good on potting while we were at the school he had to go , he grabs his self and point to the bathroom and then want to wash his hands ...When he was having his picture he was starting to whine and his mouth was wide open so I told him if he want to go just to close his little mouth and he did it and the guy took his picture. I told my daughter that he didn't smile but he did close his mouth...I thought that was good enough. But he had a big smile when we were leaving and he was waving bye bye... Well just wanted thank everyone and let you know how his tests turned out.....Betty Lunsford

Yesterday the Sp Ed teacher came and after 1 yr with her John-John actually had a good session with her. I was going to can her yesterday. I had asked for a different teacher a mth ago but they said she was the teacher in the area and I couldn't have another. I know that if I pushed for one I could get one. Her supervisor came one time and saw how they interact. So she knows the personalities just don't mesh. John-John was so good for his Sp Ed teach that he had from ARC. They had 1 hr together. This one has half an hr, I couldn't take an hr, neither could John-John. Yes, I did discuss different ways that work for JJ and also ways like the reward sys. she tries that don't work. She is trying to change. I will go mth by mth because I won't take another yr of this. (I had even taken the summer off.)It was nice to have good session. I think this will be the FIRST time she won't write that JJ was frustrated, would not cooperate.......
STEFF..How are things with Liv, Jeff, your bthr..
ROBIN.. Where are you!! What's happening...
RO.. When are you moving out to PA to get your new job? :)

Betty,
At my daughter's (non DS) 2 year check-up we had the same thing happen. The doctor doing her check up kept listening to her heart for a long time. I kept wondering why. Thens he proceeded to flip through her chart over and over. I knew something was up. Finally she asked why there was no info about her heart murmur. I told her I didn't know she had one. She said she definitely heard it and made us an appointment that day to see a cardiologist to have it evaluated. It turned out to be innocent and no big deal. They said it may come and go her whole life probably more so when she is sick. She never has to have it rechecked by cardiology or anything unless her private peds think there is a problem. So far, so good.

RO - Congrats Girl!!! :) :) We are all sooooo very proud of you -- you chose a good field to get into as I am sure you'll find lotsa opportunities for a job almost anywhere! - AND I am sure you will be a GOOD Nurse too - you are such a sweetie!! :) (Rowdy at times - BUT Sweet!! )

Betty - I would bet that it turns out to be an innocent sound -- I have a heart murmmer like that - comes & goes -- BUT wise to get it checked -- may need to have him on antibiotics (penicillin) when he gets older & he has his teeth cleaned (I was on that -- taking them just when I got my teeth cleaned - until they did tests to determine I didn't have the "dangerous" kind of murmmer where you could develop a heart infection from the teeth cleaning.....) So it's wise to get it all checked out now. Adam went for several years to the cardiologist - even tho he was determined to have a sound heart when he was born -- the DR just wanted to check & make sure - as a very teeny tiny hole can become bigger & more noticable over time --- but they gave him a clean bill of health last year or so, so no more DR trips there! --- Soooo cute they gave him a little handmade bear with a heart on it when he was discharged!

Ok - will be back - gotta get him moving on his homework -- since all the kids have been out the past week - different ones out on different days w/ a little stomach bug - they all have some catching up to do!!

Hugs!
Linda

PS - Debbie -- I am Soooo glad you posted -- was wondering how you have been & where you have been -- we missed hearing from you!! --- Debbie - if I can ask -- do you remember what age that you began to feel or notice you were "different" from the other kids?? Lately Adam has been saying he doesn't like school & he doesn't like homework -- and I am just thinking - it might be because he is not feeling well, BUT it also might be that he is beginning to notice a difference between what he can do & what the other kids are doing.......He's 8 - will be 9 in NOV but he is a perceptive little guy! His aide says he does fine when he's at school - sometimes gets a little tired - but otherwise good reports coming home.....

Annie & Tammy - glad to see you post up! :)
Steff - where are you? Everything OK?

Barb - is it true about Susan coming to Niagra Falls?? We could do a Mini Get together!! Fill me in! :) - E-mail me if ya don't wanna p[ost up details here incase we have a rude person still among us!:)

Betty my nonds daughter about 2 years ago went in for her annual checkup and they heard a murmur so off to the ped. cardiologist, but as it turned out it was just an innocent one since she is soooooo small you can hear everything going on in there. We will keep Christopher in our prayers and please let us know how it turns out

Betty, Meri's defect was like that. They heard it at birth then it was supposedly gone & we kept saying "At least her heart is ok" Then, we took her into the DS clinic at Children's & the found it there during supposedly routine testing.Hers is asymptomatic (she's not on any meds)yet they want to operate to close the hole, diagnosed as an ASD before she starts school next fall.

Hello everyone:
Christopher had his 3yr checkup at the DR. yesterday and the Dr. heard a heart murmur for the first time and they are going to send him to a heart Dr. to get a ultrsound done on his heart. His mother was about to fall apart when she got this news. and we were just wondering if anything like this has happen to any of the other kids..They have always said his heart sounded good and strong. so this is just such a shock to us. When his was born the heard a little one but it was gone before he left the hospital and was never heard again. He has been to lots of dr for colds ,ear tubes and in the hospital with the croup several times and it still wasn't heard. we were just wondering if this is something that has happen to any of the other kids ...I know my sister oldest grandson had one show up and it was nothing serious..So we are hopeing and praying that Christophers won't be serious...Betty

Hello again... my once weekly check in...
Or so it seems lately...

Robin... A Kidney stone?? Blimey Girl... they reckon giving birth is actually easier than passing a kidney stone!! Need I say more...
BIIIIIGGGG Huggles for ya....

RO... congrats on getting your Licence!! YEEEE-HAAAA all those years of study have really paid off...
BTW... Our Govt is offering "incentives" to nureses from overseas to come and work here... We have a real shortage of qualified nursing staff... Talk to ANY backpacker.. you can get LOADS of work with ANY agency here...But I wont go into the details about pay etc which is the REAL reason we have a Nursing Shortage!!... But Just a thought if you were looking at a working holiday perhaps??? (HINT HINT)
BARB... I can really realte to you and your problems woth your daughter... My 11yr old is EXACTLY the same as you described... and it is just sooooo frustrating knowint they could do sooo much with thier life but seem to chose to throw it away..*sigh*...
My only hope is... I look back and see myself much the same (and my mother will confirm) and I didnt turn out too bad... or so they say anyway..LOL...So maybe the same will go with our girls...(fingers crossed)...

We went to the paed a few days ago and we increased the dose of Emily's medication... after only 3 days on a higher dose... the difference is very clear... So far things have settled down quite significantly. And I am Soooooo happy about that...

Lewis is doing great... seems to be having a language spurt this week... he has made a few 2 sign sentences while attempting words (babbling) at the same time... all progress as I see it...

This is our last week of school, then 2 weeks holidays... Dont know wether to laugh or cry...
We will be going camping for the first week, and will be away off and on for the second week..
I will check in and catch up before then...

Health Hugs and Happiness...
Tammy... and the Mob...

Evening all!
Well, just got home from the old meet and greet with my 13 yr old daughter's teachers. One word will sum it all up: GRRRRRR!!!! Only 3 weeks into the school year and this kid who is so very intelligent is already screwing around with not turning in homework, sneaking books inside of text books to read when the teachers are lecturing. It just makes my blood boil to see this kid who gets high 90's on exams and quizes barely passing cuz she doesn't turn homework in on time. She does it when she is supposed to but somewhere between the house and school there is a black hole that seems to suck the papers out of her bookbag!!! This has been an ongoing problem and every year I do everything I can think of to try to help her stay organized, but to no avail since I can't make her turn it in when she gets to school!!!! GGGRRRRRR!!!! And this year it is even more frustrating knowing how easy all of this comes to her (she really doesn't have to put a whole lot of effort into her school work and still pulls high 90's on exams) and knowing how much of a struggle school could be for Alison in the years to come. Sorry, just had to vent!!! On the up side, her teachers all said she is a wonderfully bright and energetic and pleasant kid ( I think they must have her confused with someone else as far as the pleasant part goes as she is anything BUT pleasant to be around at home lately - gotta love those 13 yr old girl hormonal mood swings!) and is always willing to help her classmates who are having trouble grasping some of the concepts they're covering in class.
Susan: Rumor has it you may be taking a trip up here to Niagara Falls? True or False? If ya are we have to make arrangements to get together, ok? E-mail me!
Robin - glad to see your getting back to feeling like yourself again. Missed ya!
Okay, gotta head back to work now, doing a split shift what with the teacher meeting going on. Hopefully things will have quieted down since I left - I needed a pair of rollerskates it was so crazy there earlier!!
Have a good evening!
Barb

SUE: I read the article back awhile ago in the Boston Globe about the ballet's program. It sounded absolutely wonderful. Gotta say I am a little jealous you and Sharyn are so close to Boston (my hometown!) and the program. A friend is involved in the production side of the Nutcracker and said it was such a treat seeing the kids in the classes come backstage and meet with the dancers and check out all the props. She said this year they are going to try to include some of the kids in at least one show too!!!
Hope you all enjoy the day... gotta run as the little monster is growling very loudly!!!

my daughter is in the 6th grade at middle school. We have been having a hard time with the school system for over a year I recieved her iep last year in april ,they forgot to put speech on it so they fixed it the next one they had made alot of errors on her specials , It took so long that in January I got the third draft and the same thing was wrong alot of errors that we coulnt except. So needless to say Kim is now in sixth grade with her fourth grade iep still .in place so on Friday I called the state Dept. of Ed and talked to this very nice man and he said he would call them and I received her ed plan that same day and it was the same one that I rejected in January still with her summer program on it ,they just changed her placement . I am going to call the state again on Monday and let them know what they did , The state might just think oh they are all set cause they got the iep Thanks for listening Sharyn
If any one is from around the Boston area my daughter just joined the boston ballet ds group it is awsome

I don't know if you all remember me or not but to those who do, I am back! I wasn't sure if I would be able to get back on with everything that has happened.
You just never know what kind of limits there are on a web site after such a disgusting act that transpired on this web site will be.
To those of you who don't know me, I am Debbie and as you see above, I have Down syndrome. I have been posting here off and on for a couple of years. I really don't know how long to be honest, but, it has been quite a while. I share my life experiences growing up and living with Down syndrome here and on another web site too.
I am forty two although I will turn forty three on the fourth of November. I was born not too long after Halloween. My mother expected me on the third and I came a day later. I just took my time to enter the world!
I hope to start writing my biography or re-working my first draft that I wrote years ago. I was twenty one when I wrote it and I have changed quite a bit since then! I have alot of work to do on it and this will take time.
I am a poet and a writer. I live with my parents and volunteer in my coummunity during the week.
I have a boy-friend too and his name is Steve. He will turn fifty in Feburary.
I have never grits but to be perfectly honest with you all, I don't think I would like it much. I do like Oatmeal and I think it is much more appealing to me than grits. My father likes Ketchup on his eggs too. I always thought that was disgusting but, if he likes that and crumbled up cornbread in a glass of milk then that is okay. I don't have it like that though!
Yes, I have read some of the past messages. I do this to have something to type about!
Debbie

Well I better get back to work I was just taking a short break and wanted to check in..

Dolly, Justin had his tonsils out last Oct. and yes they were VERY HUGE same with Ashley hers were out when she was two also same reason causing apnea, you could actually see just how huge by opening their mouth they barely had room in there, the opening to their airway and everything was just wall to wall tonsils. We seen great improvements afterwards as far as breathing but of course as for the snoring Ashley still can out snore a mack truck lol and Justin well he never did snore, but they didn't want to take out anymore of the adenoids for fear of making her sound nasal when she talked.
As for Justin and school it is going great he actually sits during circle time and amazingly follows directions,he has a daily folder that the teacher fills out as what they did today and how he did like if he needed encouragement to participate or he enjoyed it, so far he has always enjoyed everything, hmmmmmm funny though for the snack section there are always extra stars lol. Today I should be getting a note from the ST to let me know how and what they are doing and working on in that department. So all in all he is just being soooooo grown up WAAAAAAA where did my baby go;),when I pick him up I'll ask him what he did today and he'll just jabber up a storm with those hands flying all over the place all the way home.
Ok how is everyone doing with Isabelle,we got some major rain today and some cooling off, darn and I was just going to go out and cut the grass :). Ok have to go pick up the little guy hugs everyone.
Kathy welcome, all of our kids had the T/A, but they have also had to be put on allergy and asthma meds, they still need that extra boost but you are right it did help out tremendously having the T/A done.

Morning all;
Well, we seemed to have been spared the wrath of Isabel here in NortheastOhio. We were suppose to get 30-40 miles/hr. winds but none so far. Some rain, so there is a flood watch, but we are lucky. Hopefully everyone who's in her path are as lucky.
Haven't been on lately cuz my computer was wacko! I had it de-bugged yesterday and its better, but not quite "healed". Waiting for a new CD-Rom cuz mine is burnt out. Then the tech said he can load a program that will eliminate ALL my junk and I can start from scratch. I'm a computer idiot, so I have to trust this guy.
Been catching up on the post...Robin, hope you are better. I had two kidney stones in my lifetime, so I feel your pain...and I do mean "PAIN"! I could never pass the little devils and both times ended up having them "taken out". No fun. Here's hoping your recovery time is quick and painless.
I had Eric's IEP yesterday. I was able to get his days at school decreased to Three full days instead of four. He was having an awful time staying awake. He is there for 6 hours/day, and it is too much for him. His teacher is so sweet...she will let him nap whenever he needs it, and lets me know his progress daily. He seems to love the social interaction, and he has no problem with participation, so I'm hanging in there. I was thinking of taking him out of the program and just get his therapies until next year, but they convinced me otherwise. I'm sure they're right, but it makes me sad. It seems like you have to give up part of their childhood. I know I didn't send my "typical kids" to any preschool program that was 4 days a week, 6 hours a day. My older kids didn't even go till they were 4 years, and then it was only 2-3 half days. It is sooo different with Eric. His days are filled with therapists, and teaching and goals...sometimes its overwhelming. (for both me and him). I know its for the best, and it will benefit Eric, but sometimes I feel like I just want him to stay home and be a toddler. Sorry I'm whining, must be the menopause. I'm sure I'll adjust.
Well, gotta go make some breakfast for the little guy...talk to everyone later...stay dry all you East Coast uno masers! Dolly

WOW LINDA, that is GREAT to hear that the T&A had such GREAT results for Adam :-D Man you noticed that much of a differece in his speech, that is way cool, wish I could say the same but sadly NO.

Just a ? and I guess I should go put this on the BB under medical BUT since I am here ;-) I will ask. When your kids had their tonsils out, were you told that they were very very large??? Christopher's were not large but extemely loooooong so the ENT tells me. Hmmm just wondering if that may be why I have seen no GREAT changes after they were removed,Hmmm

RO girl, I agree with Alice, you are a WONDERFUL person with a HEART of GOLD, so until I know who's "HUG DAY" it is, (as I too can't get into the calendar) Christopher and I are sending out BIG HUGS to you girl.

STEFF, thinking of you, post up when you can K, my bet is on you and Olivia shaping that school up 1 2 3 ;-D

Hope ALL have survied the storm, was nothing by the time it hit our area :-) Kodi Lee was doing the "storm dance" but noooo such luck for her, sadly for her, but Happy for me she had school today ;-)

Have a GREAT weekend everyone...

Kathy - Hi & Welcome -- thanks for posting that tip! Posat up more about you & your family! --- I agree - our kids with DS have a greater tendancy for snoring & restless sleep & stuffy/ sinus noses that are NOT fixed by antibiotics or allergy meds -- a good ENT will help diagnose if a tonsil-adnoidectomy is needed --- Adam had his out when he was 3 & 1/2 and not only did his nasal-sinus probs become less frequent BUT his SPEECH was sooooooo tremondously improved --- even after just 1 day of surgery --- REALLY! BEFORE surgery he would say "Garble-Garble-Blah-- OG!" and after surgery (THAT VERY NITE actually)he could be CLEARLY heard to say a much more understandable phrase like "Ere isa dog!" --- If THAT makes any sense! LOL! - While it wasn't perfect --- it was much more clear about what he was trying to say!

SUZI - hope all is well with you & the trailer stays where it's anchored! -- Prayers going out for ya girl --- Here they've closed some schools tomorrow as well --- mostly those in some of the outlying areas - but the district next to ours is closed -- BUT not ours --- all 3 kids were home sick today with some crummy little flu bug -- sop we will watch the news in the AM to see if schools on or not -- they may be home tomorrow regardless of the storm if they aren't still up to par.....

Annette - Hope all is well w/ you & the family & your farm animals -- I forgot you are also on the Jersey Coatline, near DC is it? --- Keep us posted! Prayers headed your way too!

ROBIN! Welcome home girl! Rest up & feel better fast!

Steff - I didn't go back as far as your post -- so will have to check it out --- but sounds like those CA teachers need a lecture form the NYS mom!! -- Remember -- (this is my own personnal belief) "That our kids CAN BE SUCCESSFUL in ANY environment -- GIVEN the PROPER SUPPORT!! -- (That encompasses an Inclusion-type -- Regular-Ed classroom) AND by LAW -- the Gov is mandated to give that support!

I just want to let all parents know that if your child suffers from snoring and allergy type symptoms--don't let the doctors talk you into using allergy medicine first. They don't work.We tried it 2 times. The root of the problem was Adenoid problems. After months of waiting for the ENT appts and my research on the internet---I realized my son needed exrays of the nasal cavities.Once the ENT looked into my suspicions he concluded that the adenoids were inflamed and needed to come out.I said yes ---when can this happen. In June of 2003 my son had the operation and it is now 3 months later and he is cured of green mocos always in his nose.No more snoring and no more infections in the nasal cavity.Praise God for knowledge that us as parents can find.We as parents are our kids advocates for life.We can educate ourselves and help the doctors come to a better conclusion to health care for our children!!!!!
Please parents---think about it---be a good advocate for your children Kathy from San Diego

Hey just a quick thing about all the hugs going on:)
MY original idea was that the calendar is a part of this board that was really used very little:( Sure there was some who used it and some that just read it(I am guilty) but the idea was that if you have something important to remember &/or to share post it:) We love to have forwarnings of everything around here:)
For instance:) Alisons surgery scheduled for October I posted so that as the weeks that draw nearer to the actually surgery WE know that mommy is going to need to have some ears, someone that has been there and done that to help alleviate some possible uneasiness:). Sure she has been through a couple of surgeries already but it never gets easier:( the sitting & the waiting. Will it work, will it be fast, and what will happen after the surgery? I for one can tell ya she is JUMPING FOR JOY at the thought of POOPIE DIAPERS:) So just before this surgery we could all send her a box of wipes, or a diaper or an apron with gloves, a clothespin for her nose, anything to make her feel loved & to help her celebrate her strangeness for messy diapers:) Just kidding Barb:)
But that was my goal for the hug a day deal:)

Hope that made sense:)

Well, thanx for the storm wishes....we'll just have to see how it all plays out. We're close to the PA/WVA border so depending on which side of the mountains the storm tracks up we may get hit alot or almost none. We're on high ground though & our trailer has elephant chains thru the frame into the footer~as long as the walls hold we're set.I do plan to park a bit further from the one big tree in the driveway when I come back from picking sam up at preschool.I think FIl was headed down to Deep Creek to pull the boat & see what he can do about the cottage though. We heard they started letting water over the spillway there in prep for all the rain. we have generators so we should be able to stay in touch.
Also, thanx to all who were praying for Matt's football coach who had been deployed to Iraq last winter.Due to the storm he got in a bit earlier than expected & reached home lunchtime yesterday. Seems they were right on the front lines & his group delt with more Iraqui prisoners than any other unit in the war.Depending on the weather the team is having a pizza party tomorrow night & I'm sure they'll be alot of celebrating.

Oh dear I just got out of the hospital last night so excuse any errors as these drugs are some potent babies. I wasnt even going to try to post but missy STEFF got my blood boiling mad when I read her post. STEFF..you give me that TEACHER'S phone number and I WILL handle that bimbo. HOW DARE she ask you a personal question like that????? You should of returned the favor and told her rumnor has it her sex life isnt what it USED TO BE!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrr, I am so mad here!!!Somehow people (especially professionals) got the idea that families wiht disabled children should live in glass houses and that IS NOT the case at all!!!! Next.... you go tell that teacher and principle both off good for my nagel baby not getting lunch, not once but TWICE and explain VERY CLEARLY in your (I AM TAKING NO SH** FROM EITHER ONE OF YOU ANYMORE VOICE) that you are not taking any more sh** from them concening your daughter and my girl!!!! Then tell them both while they are still together that your daughter WILL BE IN THAT CLASS regardless of whether the teacher thinks she should or not and they had better start making accomadations and adapions for her as of YESTERDAY!!! The federal law IDEA states they must and they had better follow the law. I am really not up to making such a long trip right now so please knock some sence into their pea brains for me ok?? I hope I am making sense here. Do they have teacher consultants in california? We call them TC's here. Chase has one and she checks on him constantly and makes sure that what they are asking of Chase for school is appropriate and at his level and if it is not, she sets them back on the right path. Ask for one of those. And tell them they'll never know how smart livvie is if they dont give her a chance, then smack them in the head for me!!!! Grrrrr! I often think it isnt our kids with the problems but instead alot of the professionals! BTW..how is my buddy Jeff and Kyle doing?
We btw..do alot of counting here. We count to three and then if the direction isnt followed, Chase is very sorry:-) An example is...time to pick up for recess, he refuses, one, two (by then he is shouting "no say three") and if he hasnt decided to comply, he loses recess. If he still doesnt comply, it is one, two, three and then he gets time out. It is tuff love but it is working well, just really hard the first two or three weeks on both you and your child when you do it at home. Tammy send me the girl please:-) If I can deal with Chase, we can do a difficult girl too:-) Chase also has ODD so this will be a breeze, we'll conquer them both at the same time but can I keep her???LOL love you!
Ok I have to go..but first.... Ro Henrietta, no more fancy stuff from you until all moderators know how! And what am I missing about hugs??? Oh wow I need to go rest, things are crooked
love anbd huggers

OMG I feel awful for missing all the hugs so here are my HUMONGUS,GIGANTIC,ENORMOUS HUGS Sam,Patrick,Christopher and Melinda and hugs to someone today sorry but I can't get in the calendar again grrrrrrr.
WELCOME SUSAN Matts' mom can't wait to hear more about Matt, I agree just keep letting him know you are there for him and love him very much poor kid has been through alot and acting out whichever way he needs too,it's a trying time now and add the pre puberty cocktail to the mix and it just amplifies things for awhile till they level out. Hold on and hang in there, I know I'm no help here but we are going through some rough times now with our 11 yr (nonDS) daughter the little walking prepubescent hormonal monster, ok I'll be nice ;. During these trying times we have to remember their bodies are going through some major changes and they just don't understand what's going on and add Matts' other problems and it's just going to take some extra patience and a whole lot of love and understanding. We are all here for you if you need to talk or just to vent.
WTG COLLIN!!!!!!!! LOL Justin will say un,do, and yell eeeeeeeeeeeee and claps and laughs at himself and yells YEA!!!!!! what a ham lol.
Melinda BIG BIG hugs for the little man Noah Bless his heart and hope and pray he will be home before you now it.
Steff big hugs headed Olivias' way shame on them the poor girl not getting lunch what is wrong with them grrrrrr.
Ok sorry this got so long but I don't get to post on the MB that much cause of the blasted firewall grrrr. Justin is doing GREAT in school and having a ball, the teacher says he is quite the little helper, when one of the other kids is having a bad day and crying he will go over to them give them a hug and pat them on the back, what a little man I have gotta love him. OK I have 2 more hours here with no kids hmmmm guess that means I should get cleaning lol. Hugs to everyone and again everyone in the path of Isabelle stay safe and please don't forget to post up when you can so we can breathe again prayers headed your way oh and yes I have all our fans pointed to the east coast hopefully it will blow it back out.

Awwww LOTS of HUGS ROBIN, Susan told me last night it wasn't a Bladder infection after all but a Stone, OMG I passed a Kidney stone as a child and I still remember the pain, OUCH OUCH OUCH Now girl listen next time you want a stone just reach down on the ground, there are tons of them everywhere, nooooo need to go making one yourself ;-D Hope your feeling better, PRONTO

STEFF: Hows things going at school, better I hope :-D

CINDY: We do the choice thing all the time with Chris and it works like a charm, well most days ;-D We also when we ask Chris to do something, then I stop and count slowly to 7 silently to give him time to respond. I am such a fast speaker and forget to take the time to let Chris respond before rambling out something else to him. Have to say that has been the BEST for us. I use to just go on and on with words words words and nothing was happening except for Chris not cooperating then once I started to give him the time OMG BINGO he was doing soooo many things with no more behaviors :-D

As many have said, anyone in the path of the storm BE CAREFUL We appear to be safe as the warning in our area is for South Jersey and I am in the North, but even our schools aren't taking any chances and went and cancelled the football game and many other events for tomorrow. Better safe then sorry.

Ro - I e-mailed ya back :) :)

Ditto from me - also - anyone in the path of Isabelle - post up & let us know -- Our GS troop cancelled plans to go on a weekend long horse riding camp due to the storm -- they have predicted that even here in Western NY we should prepare for it like a 3 day winter storm -stock up on food, batteries etc incase of power outages & flooding.... Isn't Brenda out there in Virginia or someplace? And Suzi & Meri -- how close are you??! Hugs & prayers for you all!

WELCOME to Susan - Matt's new Stepmom!! I am sure you will get some good advice from us folks here! - This is a great site! :) --- Altho my son is not at the adolescence stage - yet --- I can only imagine what you are going thru! You are so right about Matt being smarter than what people may give him credit for -- our kids are sooooo very bright - don't let 'em fool ya! I guess I would try talking to him - to let him know how much you care about him - although you cannever actually REPLACE his Mom -- but that you love him & want to help take care of him. Maybe getting some books about raising step kids - as I am sure he is going thru some pretty rocky feelings about now & his "running away" from you & the teachers is his way of expressing that..... Maybe a book with pictures that talk to the kids (like for younger ones w/ lotsa pics) to share with him about losing a parent & being raised by a step partent would help HIM to cope with some of his feelings... Keep us posted & fill us in you are one awesome stepmom!!

I haven't kept up much w/ the posts lately :( -- kids & school as usual have me hog-tied! Kate & Adam were both home from school yesterday - so the "germ-warfare" has started already!!- BUT I see that our poor ROBIN is in need of some hugs --- {{hug}} {{hug}} - I hope you are better soon sweetie :) -- passing a kidney stone -- it sounds painful! -- you will be in my thoughts & prayers...

Happy Birthday to the Twins Sam & Patrick I see -- and also to anyone else I missed! :)

OK - gotta go now - but hope to be back later to catch up!!
{Hugs} & prayers

I would love to hear feedback on other 13-16 year old teenagers. I am a new stepmom to a darling boy who is 14 years age. 3 years ago, he lost his mom to cancer. It has torn up the family, and this little boy seems to be the glue. He was my buddy before, but I am finding it challenging to be his stepmom, and him entering adolesence. He idolizes his "Nanny" grandmother, my husband's mother, and goes over to her house every weekend. She reminds me of Everyone loves Raymond's mother. (in a good way), She was best friends with Matt's mom, and my husband often compares me. I have never had children.(I can't), nor have I been married before. (I am 43.) Matt is alot smarter than people think, but I am concerned that he is not getting the proper education in this town of 30,000 people. He also is learning manipulation, and not to talk about feelings, as his family says things that the other person is not suppose to say to the other. He listens to everything. I love him and his dad, but feel like the low man on the totem pole. It was up and down, when we dated, and I really want this to work. Matt, lately, has been running off from his teachers, and not listening to me. He threatens to tell his "Nanny". I don't want to sound negative, but I feel really isolated and frustrated. Matt is so smart, and is loved. He can't communicate as well as I feel capable for someone his age. He also is used to having everything done for him while he is away. I love him and know that he has been through alot. Any suggestions?

Hugs to everyone.

Robin -- Ouch a kidney stone!! Get well soon chickadee!!

Cindy - COUNTING. I can now say that Collin has definately masted counting to THREE. Collin you need to do "what ever" One....and the child pipes back Twoooo, freeee and just laughs and takes off running to do what I asked because he know's his hinney is mine to smack!!! LOL

I do have to agree that giving Collin choices really helps alot. If, you want to do this you have to do this....Do you want to watch Sponge Bob (which is always a YES) then you have to put your cup up or go potty.
But, thanks for the ideas with the cards. I will have to keep them in mind since the child has been a real handfull lately and so obstinate and defiant. There has never been so much foot stomping and HUMPhing in my house and its about to drive me CRAZY and if you know me....I don't have far to go ~!! No comments either.

Melinda -- So glad to hear Noah is doing better. Praying he comes home to you quickly and stays there.

Very late have to go to bed and get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZ's.

Night all,
Prayers for all

Hi there Uno Masers!
I just talked to Robin's DH. (THIS time DH stands for DEAR hubby.....he was being a doll!) He says Robin went to the ER last night and passed a kidney stone.....OUCH! ! ! ! ! ! I'm hoping she'll SOON be back to normal! He said Chase's meds are being increased a bit and they are really hoping for some behavior improvements. We'd better add Robin to our hug list for tomorrow!

SSteff--Liv's behavior does not sound unusual to me at all.. I need to think about it a bit and try to remember how we got Kaylee out of the plops. One thing I know for sure---use 3x5 cards with pictures on them. Kaylee is so much less likely to argue with a picture. Show the card (of kids lining up) and say..Olivia needs to line up like this. Or say nothing but "what are they doing on the paper?"
One key to success with Kaylee is trying not to give a direct command that she can argue with. For lining up after recess we would say "Here's the line up card--run and give it to Mrs. Johnson" If she has a 'job' then she forgets that she's obeying. If there's any wany to make a choice out of things that helps too. "Do you want to sit by Jackie or Emily at circle time?" Then she forgets she doesn't WANT TO sit at circle time because she is to busy trying to decide WHO she wants to sit by. The key is to try to give them as much power as possible so they feel as if they are in charge of themselves (instead of the fact that they are actually being micromanaged and a 'typical' kid would lose it too if he/she had that much adult obsession!) so-

1. Always try to give them a choice..when trying to get them to do something (She won't take her lunch tray..say "Are you going to have choc milk or juice today?" then she drops the arguement about the lunch tray and moves on to make her choice) (She won't wash her hands before lunch..say "Are you going to push the soap dispenser or should I?" - Kaylee is VERY smart, but she always falls for this because she gets to be the Boss that way. (if she refuses to color her color sheet..say "Are you going to use the red or the yellow?" etc

2.) try to give Liv a JOB that will get her where you want her to be. (taking the line up card to the teacher..holding the door for the class..ringing the bell for circle time..even just holding a piece of paper for the teacher will usually get Kaylee to join the circle..)

I'll try to think of more ideas. This behavior is VERY normal for kids with Ds.

Michelle Mc told me once she would start to count with Casey..you know..brush your teeth..I'm counting to 3 and usually by the count of three he was doing what she asked. I tried it with Kaylee and it really worked for quite some time!

Afternoon all!!!
Hugs to Patrick and Sam from me and Alison!!! And hugs to Christopher and Melinda who we missed!!!
TAMMY: Ya didn't say what kind of meds your 11 yr old is on, but if like my 13 yr old daughter it's something for ADD/ODD her dosage had to be adjusted at around 11 yrs old. My own theory is those lovely hormones of puberty were sending everything into a tailspin.... tweeked the dosage of her meds and things improved!!! Not saying that she joy and sunshine to be around 24-7 BUT things did improve. Here's a scary thought for you all - my DH pointed out to me the other day that we will have a teenage girl in the house for the next 19 1/2 years!!!! I asked him if he was driving me to the nearest bridge cuz if Sarah and Alison are anything like Caitlin has been so far I'm never gonna make it through without a jail sentence!!!!
Just got back from Alison's appointment with the surgeon. She is now scheduled to have her colostomy reversed on October 22nd - her 7 month birthday!!! I will be SO relieved to put this chapter behind us - bring on the poopie diapers!!! And after 4 trips to get blood work drawn we finally met with success today!!! A double good day!!!
Well, those of you in the path of Hurricane Isabel stay safe and let us know how ya make out - they're saying we may even have trouble here in Western NY
Enjoy the day!!!

I just heard something tragic~ well, even more tragic than it already was. That family whose van was swept away in the flooding about a week ago & all 4 kids & the mom drowned. the little boy had DS.
Hugs to Sam, Patrick & Christopher!
Steph: How bout a picture chart/schedule for Liv. I've heard wonders about those .There were recent articles on them in the newsletter we get thru that one org. If it turns up, I'll scan it in to you. Basically a big board where she can check in to see what's expected of her next.As for the lunch, I'd be kicking some booty! No child should be going without lunch.I know our cafeteria company here makes sure each child is fed wether they forget their money or their account is in arrears or whatever.Actually unless due to the mess with CA's governor I believe Liv should be elligible for free hot lunch program.I think it is federal not state.

Thanks again for all the hugs. I let Noah's nurse know that him not having clothes on was not acceptable. Someone posted that I should put a sign in his room saying he needs clothes on at all times. Thanks! That's a great idea and I am going to do that today when I am there. Someone else mentioned having a volunteer set with him. He has had one of those for about 12 hours a day since moving from teh ICU last Friday. They moved him to a Transitional unit and put him in an overflow room away from everyone else. I was not very happy about that either and made sure they knew as soon as I got there. He was so far away that noone would have even heard if his monitors or vent came off. They decided to get him a PCA (patient care attendent) then to sit with him until another room became available. That made me feel a little better. Then his respiratory therapist came in and said there was going to be an empty room all the way at the other end of the hall that day. It was farther from the nurses desk but closer to where the RT's set. That was great with me...better than where he was. But they have had someone sitting with him from morning until night even when I'm there they are there. I guess the times he pulled things out they just were not watching him or something....But a good thing came from having his chest tube pulled out. He had a swallow test done before they were going to replace it and discovered that he know longer has a leak so they did not have to put it back in. YAY!!!! I was so happy to get rid of it and I guess he just knew himself that he didn't need it anymore. So hopefully we will begin to get things moving in the right direction to finally start looking at a discharge date. We still have to work out some feeding issues-right now he is fed by a GJ-tube and hopefully we can get him back to just a regular G-tube. I will be so glad to get out of that place. I know we will still be making frequent visits, but that's better than him living there.
Annette, I noticed from another post that you have a son in Kindergarten. So's my daughter. Maybe we can hook them up to like Noah and Ashley.

((((HUGS)))) to SAM & PATRICK Today & a belated (((HUG ))) to CHRISTOPHER & MELINDA. I'd hate to miss out on hugging you little cuties.
Don't worry TAMMY you will survive. I always say I wouldn't give my kids away for the world. A couple hrs a day, DEFINATELY! I think we'll all survive better if we just let someone else have them a few hrs a day. Think about all we could get done:)
RO... I love your huggin' idea.
ROBIN...Just cause Chaase isn't visiting all the neighbors doesn't mean we don't want to hear what's up.
I put a new (to him, his cousins) pair of shoes on John-John on Sunday and it rubbed his heel. The next day he scratched it raw again. I couldn't keep a bandaid on him. So I got smart and put the gauze and tape on, then put his sisters' tights(navy blue) on him:^) Works like a charm. Thank God I didn't pay $40 for them then find out they rubbed!
Well hugs to all you mothers too!

*FREE*... to anyone who is game enough to take her...
One Big Sassy mouthed arguementative, know it all, aggressive, lying, cheating, 11 yo girl.

I have had enough!!! And am frankly at breaking piont with her this week. I really feel I would NOT miss her one bit if she disappeared today.
Sounds awful doesnt it. I feel so bad saying it but it is really how I feel at the moment.

We have an appointment with the paed tomorrow, maybe we need to adjust her medication a bit... I hope so.

The kids didnt go to school this morning, because our teachers were on strike... trying to get more pay...
I could hear Kate screaming and crying from the dining room so I called her and asked what is wrong... she just kept crying and screaming so I had to go investigate...
I walk in there to find Kate had been trying to sit at the table to write some letters to her friends. Lewis had climbed onto the table, taken all her "stuff" and thrown it accross the room, then was standing throwing pinecones at her (out of a basket display I keep on the dining table)...LOL... he had her cornered and was pelting her with giant pinecones and all she could do was cry. When I tried to get him off the table he kept running to the other end to get away from me!! I ended up having to climb onto the table too so I could catch him!!
I dont really know though if it is funny or sad that my almost 3yr old can terrorise and intimidate a 7 yr old...
I know he always cries and screams loudly when they dont let him have his own way, and only so that they will get into trouble. I used to think they were teasing him and would growl at them... but I caught him out and know what he is trying to do now...
Hmmmmm Kids... who wants em??

RO... what a really cute thing.. a hug a day....
To all the Hug receivers I have missed...
I throw out my arms and give ya a big belated SQUEEEZE...

Gotta go....nearly time to get the brats from school... though I am seriously thinking I might leave them there...

Huggles...
Tammy.

Hmmm was chatting with Debi earlier, which lead me here. You guys are soooo sweet BUT its not Christopher's Birthday today, his isn't till December. But THANKS for the early wishes ;-D Hmmm I have nooo idea how that got on the calendar, very odd...

RO you are sooooo SWEAT and you too ANNIE, THANKS for the HUGS for Chris,he is sending a GREAT BIG one back at you guys and BTW RO, he had a SUPER day at school, I am happy to report :-D

ANNIE S. OMG girl where the heck have you been???? UPDTATE PLEASE ;-D Hopeing all is well with you guys.

STEFF Give it time girl this is all sooo new to Oliva. I think its GREAT you went in there, as no one knows your baby girl as you do. Hmmm the lunch thing girl WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THAT???? Here in our schools even if the kid forgot their lunch or lunch money they make sure they are served a meal at lunch time. That is just nuts and I would be sure to talk to the principal bout that one. Hope the behavior person will also visit the school so he/she can see what may be triggering the behaviors and give them lots of suggestions. Least for me, I found the school acted quicker on suggestions from the Behavior expert so called then they did if they thought it was just coming from me. Hang in there girl, it gets better :-D

Awwww MELINDA add me to another sending ((HUGS)) to you and Noah. Golly girl you have lots going on. Not sure if this helps any but when Chris was in the hospital not to long ago, he was only in for 2 days and nights. But being I had to leave for a few hours to check on my daughter, I asked if they could help me out and they sent in a volunteer to sit with Chris while I was gone. Maybe they could do that for you and you can tell the volunteer to make sure no matter what Noah is to have PJ's on. Blessings to you girl and PLEASE let us know how things are going.

If any of you guys are in the area of the storm that is headed at the end of the week PLEASE stay safe.

CC ;-)

Dear Steff,
What if you were told that this was perfectly normal behavior for a kid with Ds during the first eight weeks of kindergarten? Frankly, I think it is. Poor Olivia doesn't know what to do so she flops onto the floor. Can't tell you how many kids I have seen do the flop.
The first thing I would do is get the kid a schedule she can understand so she knows what is coming next. A kindergartener with Ds should not be sitting for an hour. Let her go third or fourth for roll call and then pull her from class for some one on one.
If all eyes are on her while she is flopped on the floor, then she isn't being ignored. I say take her to a quiet area where the aide can really ignore her!
What if instead of forcing her to stay in the class, you made going to the kindergarten class a reward? This way she could give everyone some sense of how long and when she can tolerate the curriculum. Is the aide hovering? Is she constantly telling her what to do and prompting her. I think this is one of the main reasons our kids shut down. They are harassed to death by well meaning adults.
I would give Olivia until Thanksgiving to settle into a routine.
I really don't understand the lunch thing. Are you saying she was denied food? I would hold the principal directly responsible. I don't mean that you should yell at her, but let her know in a firm voice that she is ultimately responsible for the errors of omission by her staff. If her staff is going to point fingers at each other for this situation, let it be known that the last finger will be pointing directly at her.
Keep us informed. Prayers are with you.
MB

Logan my 5 yrold son is in Kindy. well tonight was back to school night and boy did I get an ear full. logan told me the other day that he had 2 stars and all his classmates had 5-7 stars, when I asked why he said he did not know. To find out hes not a good little boy!!! He runs his MOUTH constantly, the teacher says she gives stars all day long to kids that are doing what they are suppose to be doing when she looks up at them. When she looks up at Logan he is talking away. He has been in the time-out chair 10 times since school started.. How embarassing..What am I to do with this little ...?

Hey Hey Hey Happy Birthday Christopher!!! Hope it's a wonderful day for you .. but considering that you have a terrific big sis and Mom and Dad I'm sure you will!!
Steff................. waaaaa you may not want any advice from me Gabe's behavior at school right now leaves a little something to be desired. But I think getting the B. specialist in is a super good idea. Also at the school I work at.. they use a behavior chart for each part of the day and the kids get to work toward some treat they want at the end of the day . It does work with (most) of the kids!

This is a post I copied and pasted from somewhere else as I am busy like crazy.I need your help and input please.Guess who's going to kindergarten tomorrow??? all right you guessed it ME!!! YIKES...Olivia had a tough day on Sunday and was being an ULTRA PILL> No talking or making any headway with her after Kyles birthday party with 17 yes 17 kids. I was wiped then Liv starts up. I in turn wake up this morning with the kids virus they had and am sick to the BONE.SO.. I get Jeff to take them. I went babk to bed. Awake later to find Jeff sitting up on the couch. Guess who called while I was sleeping? Well it was her aide. This lady I adore. She was trying EVERYTHING today and NOTHING was working. So Jeff tells her IGNORE the BEH...(this is while I am still snoozing)Well 5 minutes after Jeff tells me this a call from the teacher. W NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT..Let's talk tomorrow. Well I then in turn ask to speak to the aide. My little LOVELY daughter is being UGGG awful. Here's what she did today(she's been good so far with a few tests here and there but nothing dramatic)She would NOT GET UP. WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. The nurse checked her she is fine. She won't even stencil the pape. She just plops on the ground with her head in the floor. Mrs. c says Olivia lets do this now. NOPE then she ignores the beh as per my dh's suggestion. NOPE what does this child do? She says since Mrs. is paying her no mind...MRS C I LAYING DOWN NOW... over and over each time getting louder and louder... I know this is so true cuz when she's being a pill she will sometimes block the tv while Kyle is watching it and say louder and louder KYLE I'M BLOCKING THE TV...I'M BLOCKING IT... Then Mrs C is down on her knees asking Liv to say. I am going to be a good girl today. What does Olivia say over and over each time she says that? I PROMISE I WILL NOT BE A GOOD GIRL TODAY!!!!That is so Olivia and the part that is so frustrating is that she has the language and she KNEW EXACTLY WHAT SHE WAS DOING and EXPRESSED herself WELL. Oh yea and my gf who was there a bit later said Olivia was HUMPING the pole at recess. I dunno sometimes the child just gets crazy and out of hand and COMPLETELY unreasonable.APPARENTLY she was SOOO naughty in kindy today the aide and the teachers aide took her outside at one point cause Kyle saw em with her.EVERYTHING that was described to me today was completely Olivia. And even worse in the reg ed classroom. SO hence the reasone why I decided to go to Kindergarten tomorrow. the teachers don't know but they will be RELIEVED I am sure I gotta figure this child out and what is up. Not like I have all the answers but perhaps I can give em some tips. Ya know and let em know I am here cause man I know Olivia can be exascerbating. So any ideas or helpful hints that worked for you would be appreciated. I am calling the behaviorist tomorrow after my first day of kindergarten in 33 years.:) I saved my hours with her for a time JUST LIKE THIS. Glad I didn't use em last Jan cause Jefff was fgetting sick all the time and they observe in your home as well as school and such and it wasn't exactly your normal family home at the time.... May take her a month or so to get started but dang I don't care as long as we get her.(this woman has HUGE reviews from other parents who's older kids were born with ds.

Okay now here goes today. I went to kindy. I figured out the problem. OLIVIA... Naw really it is in the beginning.ALL the morning kindy students must sit for almost an hour doing morning business. They all answer roll and say something they wanna then tell how they feel. Olivia did great she told everyone how she played upstairs with Kyle. Then she said she felt good. After that she plopped right down refusing to get up.They read a story after that then they break into small groups. Olivia is manageable in small groups and her beh is totally different. SO we decided to let her stay the 1st 15 minutes for roll then her and her aide will go into another room and work on something else.OKAY so we get that fixed so far then.I pay for her cafeteria. The paperwork got all messed up cause they had her written down for her old school even though I fixed that. SO yesterday she didn't get any lunch. Today she had to stay in at recess (from her sp. ed teacher_) and APPARENTLY didn't get lunch AGAIN. I just called after I found out this and told her she had best get her lunch. ANYHOW after school today I get her from her sp. ed teachers class par ususal. WELL Olivia is having a HARD TIME she explains the recess thing which I am all for BUT she needs her lunch(I didn't realize at the time she didn't get to eat.) So she then pproceeds to tell me she thinks this class may be OVER Livs head. They do LOTS of writing and stuff. Liv is NOT preppared for fine motor NO MATTER how HARD I work with her. Then the teacher says. RUMOR HAS IT.... YOU and your hubby are spilt up??? HUH??? I tell her no he is waiting for a transplant and that could be the cause of some beh but man we are probably one of the most stable and LOVING parents at this school. She was embarassed and rightfully so. SO I am getting a BIT FLABBERGASTED with school already. Olivia is REBELLING to the max I witnessed it with my own 2 eyes. :( HELP!!!!

Awww Melinda:( I am so sorry to hear this. Poor little fella just getting some headway for movement & now back a step:( The reinsertion of the chest tube will definately make him slow up a bit:(I for one would make sure that his bed, his door and his chart from here on out has a LARGE "Make sure to keep dressed to prevent any further tube removals". As for the c-line you refered to:( To me if it is planned to be removed it should be removed per nurse not child:( TO think how much that site is now irritated and will it need to be reinserted due to the replacement of the chest tube:(? No excuses as "well it was due to be out anyways?" How insenstive towards the child and the family. Well I have to go for now Dannie bellers from yon doorway:) got to go get kids

Kimberly, Matthew had his surgery done in Louiville KY, at Kosair Children's Hosp. The doctor did a wonderful job, and I kept telling him that prayer is what guided his hands to do such a good job. They said that Matthew still has a small leak, but very acceptable, and problably won't have to do anything else. When they found the leak on the echo, he was screaming for everything, and the cardio said that all that pressure from screaming could have been the reason to cause the leak. We go back in Oct for another checkup, and hopefully we will be able to go off meds by then. And yes, the AVSD is the same as the atrial-ventricular septal defect. His was huge.
Laura--Is your Dh feeling any better? Get him to the doctor and checked out pronto. My Dh is stubborn like that also.
Melinda--Talk to the doctors about the care of your baby, and if they won't do anything, see the head nurse of the unit, then the charge nurse of all nurses and take it as far as it needs to go until you are satisfied with the results. They are there to take care of your baby and that is what they are being PAID for, to care for your child, whether you are there or not. Hope things work out better for you.

Wow. I just checked and saw a couple of hugs coming my way. I can sure use those right now because I am so irritated with the hospital. I just feel like kicking someone's butt and I'm not usually like that. I'm usually pretty go-with-the-flow and laid back. If I can vent for a minute.....I didn't go to the hospital to visit NOah yesterday because I had a chest cold and cough and didn't want to cough all over him. So my husband went after work which was about 7:30 pm. He told me Noah didn't have any clothes on, just his diaper and the nurse said he was like that when she got there, so we are assuming it was all day. Well, he pulled out his C-line (used to administer meds and draw blood) at some point in the day. Well, duh if it's exposed and he can reach it, he's going to pull on it!!! So they decided it was no big deal because they were talking about getting rid of it anyways. Then this morning I ran to Wal-Mart and come home and my father in law is at my house. He tells me "Matt (DH) called and the hospital called. Noah pulled something out and has to be rushed to surgery." I didn't feel panicked and thought that something wasn't right. So I called my husband at work. He said the hospital called because Noah pulled his chest tube out. Matt asked if he was wearing clothes today and guess what??? NO. You'd think they would have learned something here. Besides the fact that he has a whole bag full of clean laundry that I had just taken in on Sat and unless he's really sick we always dress him or one of his nurses always does. Why in the world would you leave a baby naked (except for diaper) who has a dozen tubes or wires running from him body without any clothes on??? Clothes do not hinder any of the tubes or anything from working properly. So I called the hospital because they want me to come over and give consent to have the chest tube replaced this afternoon. He pulled it out at 5 am and they didn't call anyone until 9 am. I'm just so tired of the hospital and this doesn't help at all.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest and thanks for the hugs. Other than that Noah is doing well. He's happy and playful despite everything and without a care in teh world.

Hello everyone! Well, after saying a couple of weeks ago that I thought I would be posting more often, the computer wouldn't start. I finally got around to getting it fixed and so here I am!

Things here have been pretty busy. Conor and Patrick both had pink eye last week and spent some time home from school. We had Nora's Christening yesterday and during the party I could feel my eye starting to get all goopy and sure enough I have full blown pink eye today. I just hope everyone at the party doesn't get it too.

Nora's Christening was so nice. We had a private service with a Bishop that was a priest at my old parish when my dh and I went to school.Nora was so good-she didn't even cry when he poured the water on here head. The baptismal font at our church looks like a hot tub (it is sooo ugly!) and I had to stop Patrick from trying to get in it a few times.

Patrick is doing well at school. He is happy to get on the bus each day and his teacher says he is doing well. I think I'm going to start potty training next week and I am not looking forward to it! Any tips out there?

Well, I haven't had a chance to read through all of the posts and I hope everyone is doing well and I hope this time I really will be able to post more often!

Kimberly...I always let my kids they are beautiful, they are cute and are told so by many people. I also let them know beauty comes from the inside.(I have reminded them of that enough that they will say "I know beauty comes frome the inside") So at times I let them know that they are not being very pretty right now. It does have an affect on them. I have used the crib method on all 3 of mine esp. when they are whining.I started this at least by the time they were 1, probably a little before that. Ask them where whiny babies go. They answer to bed. My Mom taught me not to smack a childs hand, as they can smack yours back, but flick your finger at it. They can't repeat that. If you don't discipline your child, you will have a BRAT with down DS, not just a child with DS. Hope this helps.

Well Hello everyone...
It has been ages since I actually posted on here so I guess I should write a few lines and update everyone.

I hve been lurking and reading, but not as often as I would like, and posting the occaisional reply on the BB.
I just dont seem to have the time to sit long enough to read everything AND post up... its gotta be one or the other.
Hubby has been away of and on for the last 5 weeks...Grrrr... wishe he would either go away and stay away...or come home and stay home... all the coming and going has got knobs on it. Disruptive to our routine and sending myself and the kids Barmy.
Emily has been really testing her limits with me while he has been gone. She has been refusing to take her medication and been soooooo not nice to be around. Her teacher called me last week to tell me to start giving her medication in the mornings again please... she is not functioning very well at school and making it hard for everyone. OK.. Seems Emily tells the teacher that Mum forgets to give her her pills... fact is she wont take them..Grrrr....
So I have met with the teacher and explained to her what the situation is and has been etc and now we have a better understanding of each other... Emily is in BIIIG trouble and has been grounded for this week, and being made to do "extra" jobs around the house. I have also with held payment for school camp and told her if she doesnt smarten up within the next 2 weeks, she will not be going on camp with her friends, she will remain at school and work. We will have to wait and see if there is any improvement. *Sigh*....

Lewis on the other hand has been really good lately!!
except for terrorising the cat, destroying my house and terminal temper tantrums...all of which we have come to accept as "Just being Lewis"... he has been a real "angel"!!
Hmmmmmm wonder what he is really up to????
So Other than being a bit stressed and frazzled, and a sore throat from shouting at that daughter of mine..
We are all doing fine down here in Oz...
The weather is warming up, and the beach is beautiful.
We are going camping in 2 weeks and will be away for probably 2 weeks. School holidays again...

Robin... Im pleased my package arrived safely...
Hope you enjoyed them.
Laura...Glad all went well with Ethans rash and blood tests. Lewis gets the Petechia rash all the time... so often that now no-one even worries about it. He had low platelets when he was born and the did 101 tests to find why with no result... then he started getting platelets back so they just scratched thier heads and said if he shows any signs of bleeding bring him back... so the first 3 times he got the petechia he was admitted to hospital for more tests all still with nothing... so it is Just a Lewis thing.

To everyone else... hope all is well!
I will try to post up a bit more often... but no promises...

Huggles...

Tammy.

Kimberly,
Hello! Boy do I remember those days...It seems like yesterday. We had to pop Courtney's hands (even though we didn't want to) but not hard (it didn't have to be). She was always in the plants and pulling them over. Remember consistency is the key! It may take you 100 times of tapping her hand telling her no, or whatever you figure out that gets to her. Just don't make a BIG deal about or she will think it is a game. We made that mistake a few times. I can't believe Isabella is that big already! BTW, can you send me a picture @ my email? I don't have any of her. I have Michaela, Karson, Sarah, Jaynie, a new little baby girl, but NO Isabella.
Have you had any response from the registration forms or posters for the Buddy Walk? I will not be at the meeting Thursday, but will talk to Katie and Amy about what goes on. I will be ordering the tshirts probably Friday. If you need anything or want to talk about stubborness, I am home...call me

I am sorry I missed chat you guys....We were making our weekly trip to Walmart to load our pantry (and medicine cabinet). Thanks all of you for wishing us well! We need positive thoughts! Talk to you soon,
Jennifer

Kimberly,
Years ago my son would throw handfuls of dirt from a potted tree at me whenever I was in the bathtub. He was somewhere between 12-18 months old. I had no choice but to take him to his room and put him in his crib so I could clean up the mess. After the third trip to his crib, he just stopped. Looking back I realized he had a big smile on his face whenever he created the loch ness monster by throwing the dirt and spanish moss at me. Bottom line, I started placing him in his crib whenever he repeatedly went after things he shouldn't touch. I would carry him with his back to me, place him in the crib with his back to me and then turn my back on him and walk out of the room. For naps and nighttime, I would smile and kiss and tuck in and say it's nighttime and that he was "my baby boy and pride and joy." He really did know the difference between the time out and bedtime.
Do not become frustrated until you do this 15-20 times in a row for a specific incident. If she is touching a lamp's cord, be prepared for 15-20 trips to the crib for just that lamp. After a while, she will get it after a couple of trips to the crib for an infraction. By the way, I left him in the crib as long as it took me to finnish whatever he had done interrupted. The bathtub took a long time to clean. A lamp cord would mean I would go downstairs and finish whatever he interrupted i.e. dusting or vacuuming or loading the dishwasher.
Good luck.

lavada, isabella had an atrium ventricular canal defect...is that the same as the avsd? she had surgery on dec 11, 2002 and it was amazing how much she came to life afterwards! you cant really see how sluggish they were till they recover from the surgery and are like a new baby! where did yall have ti done at? we went to aschners in new orleans. she still has a leaky vavle, but it is not bad enough for them to repair at this time, though one day that may have to be done! i dont know that i can live through another suregery! we just had the eye muscle surgery done in aug 03. everyone kept trying to console me and i finally had to explain after heart surgery and seeing your baby on a vent-a blood shot eye is nothing to get upset over! glad to hear your baby had great results from the surgery!

PAULETTE: Welcome back, you were here before my time (LOL) but I'm glad you're back. I'm very glad to hear Tiffany is in remission, and will keep her in my prayers. We'll keeping in mind the things you mentioned to watch for. Part of the reason we were so scared is because we had noticed Ethan's balance was off (took him to the ENT, suspecting fluid in the ears) and blood in his mouth one day last week. Thank God those were just coincidences.
~
RO: LOL, did you use the word normal in the same sentence as the name Robin? Nothing normal about that gal, but that's why we love her, right? ROTFL!
~
ROBIN: I hear ya about doing things yourself if you want them done. I just put up a wainscote in my kitchen (alone) and a new fan and ducting in my bathroom (alone!), painted my kitchen (alone!) and just got done priming my newly redone bathroom (still alone!) I am just not patient enough to wait for people to get their s**t together to help me.
~
SUSAN: I loved the story about Emily and the concert - that is SOOO awesome! I think lots of our kids outgrow the sensory issues that make them sensitive to loud events. Please keep sharing those stories, they totally make my day (and I needed it today!)
~
JACKIE: I'm with you on the lawn work - it just seems to be piling up. I shouldn't say this, but I think I'm ready for winter to be here, then I'll only have work to do IN the house, not in and out. LOL
~
~
Okay, you guys, you aren't going to believe this one. After we got the news on Friday (late!) that Ethan's blood test was normal, Rod and I were still extremely wired. He couldn't sleep when it was time for bed, said he was going to stay up and watch TV for awhile. He fell asleep on the couch, and when he awoke at about 1am he got up, and let the dog out. For some unexplainable reason, he passed out COLD on our concrete patio. When he came to, he came in the house and crawled into bed, acting not quite right. I asked him what was wrong, and he said he thought he passed out. I sat straight up in bed, freaking out, and said "What in the world do you mean?" Went and turned the light on, and looked at the back of his head, and he had this HUGE bump on it. I started worrying about concussion, so was asking him about a meeting he had at work that day (to see if he could remember)checking his pupils, asking if he was nauseous, etc. His hands were numb, and his chest and shoulders were burning in pain. I wanted to take him to the ER, but he wouldn't go, because he didn't want to wake the baby up. He was up ALL night (so was I, I was too scared to sleep) in horrible pain, and insisted he had to go to work yesterday for roll call to get his guys their assignments (he's a sergeant with the sheriff's department). I made him come home and took him to an ER for X-rays, which showed no broken bones or cracked vertebrae. WHEW! They sent him home with muscle relaxants and a soft collar, but I think he may have torn a muscle in his shoulder. His trapezius muscle is visibly swelled up on one side. I gotta tell you guys, he is built like a rock, lifts weights and wears a 48 coat, and he just dropped like a stone on that patio, all 195 pounds of him. He is just barely moving today (again had to go to work for roll call - GRRR!) so I am going to have to drag his butt to see his regular doctor tomorrow. I had to practically kidnap him to get him to the ER yesterday. I'm so tricky, he thought we were just going to a walk-in clinic, and instead I took him to the hospital. He kept telling me he wasn't going, and I told him his only other option was to open the car door and JUMP! I'm telling ya, talk about pigheaded. The people in this house are going to be the death of my yet, my nerves just can take anymore. I was thinking of you, Steff, when all of this was going on, I just don't know how you do it. Give me your survival tips if you have any - LOL! Hugs to everyone! Laura

Hi! I am new here, hoping to make new friends. Sounds like some nasty problems have affected this site. Why do some people have to be so mean? Anyway, I am LaVada (pronounced La-Vay-da) a SAHM to 3 boys, and one on the way in November, another boy. Ian just turned 6 and is in kindergarten full time (boohoo), Logan is 4.5 in preschool 2 half days a week and my little helper with an attitude, and Matthew just had his first birthday the same day as Ian in August. He is our Down syndrome baby, we knew prenatally, and yes, still kept him! He is so full of happiness. He had his AVSD repaired in June, and is a completely different baby now. I would not have believed it had it not happened. I am so amazed at the miracle of surgery and how God was there with the doctors and nurses. He has gained over five pounds since we left the hospital!
I forget who was talking about the sickies at your house, they are here at ours also. Started over 2 weeks ago with Logan, with though Dh and me, now Ian and Matthew have it. Yucky stuff....
BTW, what is a "ICQ number"?

Have ya hugged your kids today?

On the calendar it states today that you should MASS HUG YOUR KIDS today.

While you hug your kids think back to a time where while in public they really wanted to be hugged and when they really didn't want any attention:) Ya know because of embarrassment:)LOL

Here is mine:
When Daniel(now 11) first started kindergarden it was the uncool thing to have your MOMMY kiss you in front of your buddys:) I almost cried the very first time he did it but he reached over into my ear and whispered.... "Mom them other boys dont have their mommas kiss them in front of everybody else.":)LOL SO from then on out it was kiss in car and then we walk up the walk to wait for the teacher:) Talk about heart breaking the first time.

Ya know the last time my kids wanted to be hugged in public was when they were little bitty:) Usually it happens as a goofy thing:) Being boys I think they are worried about their COOL status and it had to be before kindergarden the last time they wanted to be HUGGED in view of non family members:) Since Dannie and I had our children prior to being married I think that was the most memorable time:) They got so excited not only did they hug Dannie and I they hugged the clergy and the people in the courthouse:)

SO post up where and when?

JENN: Wow! I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with bugs! Surely it's about on it's way OUT of your house.
~
Last night, we went to a concert.....Jars of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, and Chris Rice. Anyone ever hear of them? It was wonderful! I got such a kick out of watching Emily. I had been afraid she would not like all the LOUD noise. (she once fell asleep at a concert with her hands over her ears). However, she stood throughout the whole thing, clapped like crazy and danced off and on. SO cute! When we left the concert, she kept saying over and over "THAT was so awesome"!!! As much as she loves the Contemporary Christian bands we listen to, I'm going to have to find a way to get her to see Aaron Carter....her heart throb. She would just MELT. She cut out one of the pictures of him in her CD cover and took it to school and taped it in her locker.
I hope to see everyone in chat tonight!!

Hey guys...We need to be quaranteened in this house!
This virus we have had for a week and a half now is recycling itself again. Courtney started being sick again this morning. SNOT COUGH COUGH COUGH THROW UP SNOT COUGH CRY CRY COUGH and MORE SNOT followed by more COUGHING and fever.
Everyone in the house has it! I lost my voice for 3 days and barely have it back now. I am just hoping we all get over this soon and it leaves this house for good! Not coming back in a week or two... This has kicked our BUTTS!
Darin is out of sick leave now so if it comes back....he is out of luck or we are, as he is our bread winner. These summer colds/viruses are a booger!!
Hey do you all know about the ds awareness stamp congress is trying to pass???
go to www.loveandlearning.com and click on the link for more info. We all have to do it to get it passed quickly!!
Paulette, let me ask you something..Would this show up in a regular blood count when they check for wbc?
Nicolas(my 8 year old) has dizzy spells, and arthritis. He had major back surgery when he was 3 1/2, so I have always thought that it was due to the surgery that he had pains in his back. But, he also complains about other joints hurting. My mom had osteoarthritis so I guess it is possible that he may have that coming also. I guess I have rambled long enough...
Well, I am off to open my personal pharmacy for the family.....I sware we keep Walmart in business!

I haven't been to this site in years. My name is Paulette married to Steve we have 4 beautiful girls Tiffany 16, Crystal 14, Katlyn 12 and Becky 10.
I read someone talking about patichea and platlets and this is something i unfortunately know lots about. Tiffany was diagnosed with leukemia in January. She is in remission but she still has to go thru 2 more years of Chemo therapy YUKK!
Never hesitate to get the blood tests done if your kids are showing signs of bruising or dizzy spells or even complaining about sore or achy bones. I thought because Tiffany was older she was over the high risk of Leukemia it didn't even occur to me that this is what she might have. For Tiffany it started with a sore ankle. Xrays showed nothing. Then weeks later dizzy spells(which I thought she was faking at the time) then the paticea. Blood tests confirmed our worst fears. We truly didn't think it would happen to us. Hopefully no one has to go thru this. Tiffany is a very strong girl she is very aware of what she has and is using her own ways to cope with pain and stress. I admire her determination but then I always have.
Anyway if anyone has questions about platlets or hemaglobin or white blood counts ask away.
Take Care
Paulette.

Kristi... man oh man girl, I really hate to side with the male population but I have to this time. Ewwww, dont make me do it again ok? LOL, kidding. We have got stockade fencing up in the backyard so Chase is now allowed to go out there as long as Zach is with him. (Zach because he will yell for me if Chase does something like climb on the roof or stuff) The front yard is TOTALLY off limits for Chase unless Dave or I are out there with him. It breaks my heart too because Zach can be out there without us and it makes Chase cry but I am all about thinking some day he may run out of guardian angels or they might be on lunch break at the wrong time and heaven help us he get hit by a car or picked up by a freak or find the river THREE blocks away.So I am with Ron (cant believe I am defending a guy) that boy needs one on one like Chase =0( And btw....here is some food for thought... there are some organizations out there that will donate money for fencing for kids with disabilities, the Lions, the Elks, etc. Why not give them a call and see what they say? You can get the ARC to help you with calling them for that too. Let me know how it goes and hug that bad baby boy for me =0) LOLOL, he is so like Chase with the "no this is my house" thing!!
Laura I am so relieved to hear all is well!!!!!
Cathy..I didnt forget darling, just havent gotten a call back from Chase's TC, any progress from her school yet? You have been on my mind, hugs!
Jackie...LOLOL bad news for you. Dave was being a butt head this am and Zach said...let's get a new daddy, I said eww no, this one is enough and he said...but how bout CHUCK??? LOLOLOLOL, I said what about Jackie and he said you can come too. He also said him and Ashley can be sister and brother and share a room LOLOLOL!!!! Seems he thought Chuck was pretty cool in ohio last time and I am sure it had NOTHING to do with Chuck buying him snacks at the rest stops or giving him drinks for the rides, or giving him tokens or taking him to the game room, need I go on?? LOLOL HUGS!!!!
I have officially got half of my living room now sanded, and stained and am about to put the first coat of poly on it...I am going to finish this half by tonight if it kills me cause I am tired of waiting for a man to help me. Then I am on to the walls which look so lovely in dry wall and mud. Grrrrr.
Hope you all are doing great, we are having the most wonderfully warm autumn so far, although a bit of rain might be nice. (not complaining mind you)
ok huggers and love to all,

We have NORMAL blood test results. I called the doctor's office one last time and talked to the gal in the office who as "adopted" Ethan (his picture is on the side of her computer). She went and sneaked a peek at his lab work, and came back and told me it was normal. I will still get a call from the doctor, but I am soooo relieved. His platelets were 408, and she said over 140 is good. Anybody know anything about platelet values out there? I think I'm going to go pollute one of my precious Cokes with some whiskey - LOL.

At 3:30 when I called they said they had the results, that they just came over the fax, but they had to get one of the doctors to read them and call me. It's almost 4:30, if they don't call in the next few minutes I am going to go TO THE OFFICE and CAMP on their doorstep -cannot spend the weekend wondering.....

Thanks everyone for the input and the prayers, they mean more than I can say. We are walking zombies today, and I'm frustrated that it takes this long to get an answer on bloodwork that was ordered STAT. I'm not QUITE postal yet, A., but if someone doesn't get me those results before the weekend, that may change. The biggest reason that I'm concerned is because he also had some bleeding from his gums earlier this week, but we thought he had just hit his mouth. And maybe he did, but of course right now that seems to have a more ominous meaning.

Anyway, I'll post up the minute I know anything. Please keep praying. You guys are the BEST! Hugs right back at all of you! ((((((HUGS)))))

Hey Laura... Russell has had Petechia twice. Don't go too postal on us LOL. It CAN be a sign of LOTS of things actually, ranging from no biggy to BIGGY :) Both times Russell had Petechia I DID go straight to the docs and they did blood tests but all was well. Once he got it for no apparent reason, and the other time was this last time he got REALLY sick and we had to take him to the hospital, RIGHT before the Chicago trip. He has some viral thing BAD and it caused the petechia. Petechia can be caused by things like, vomiting, coughing, straining, and others non serious things like that too... so don't worry...

Keep us posted.

Laura,
Let's hope it is nothing too serious! Courtney gets it often from either rubbing or scratching her skin to hard from allergies. Also, if she cries too hard, she will get it all under and around her eyes. She is very DRAMATIC, so she puts alot of strain on that poor little face of hers.
Let us know!

Laura,
We have been through the petchiae thing twice. There are an overwhelming number of viruses that can cause this rash along with the dreaded leukemia. Both times the bloodwork came back negative for leukemia. My doctor showed me my son's mouth and said that petechia that is inidicative of leukemia usually shows up on the gums because the chewing of food will break the blood vessels. (I hope I said this correctly, it's been 10 years). My son's mouth looked fine, but blood tests were still ordered. You might want to take a look inside his mouth.
Our last scare was last month and and turned out to be broken blood vessels due to a belly flop at the pool!
My prayers are with you. I do remember going to bed for two days sick to my stomach after we received the blood tests.
God bless, MB

Laura, Your family is in our thoughts and prayers!

Robin, Cody taught his self how to ride. I tried but every time he took off he would ride until he fell and then he wouldn't do it again. The other day I caught him getting on Kylie's practicing by hisself. Her bike is too small but he can catch his self better when he falls. Now he is riding it all over!! He gives it a couple of pushes to get it going then starts pedaling. I think having his sisters riding their bikes helped. The bad thing is that I told him he has to learn to ride with no training wheels before he can ride in the rode. Now I hope he understands it when I say he has to Ride HIS to ride in the rode. Boy am I in trouble, can't catch him as it is!!
I left yesterday when I saw his bus coming (Ron got him off) just went to my moms and back. (1 mile away). When I got home I noticed a neighbors truck in the drive. He lives 1 1/2 blocks away. Cody had walked in his house and went to his girls' room and started playing. He said he told him that he had to go to his house and play and Cody said "no, this is my house." So he loaded him up and brought him home. Ron said he had just went outside. What am I going to do with this kid!! We had put a chain linked fence up and put locks on every gate. Yep, they climb over it. You think we would get in trouble if we put some wire up at the top that would shock them if they touch it?? LOL. Ron's is upset saying that the boy can't go outside anymore unless he is out there. I hate taking his freedom away like that because his sisters get to. So this is where we get into arguments. Ron's like, I'm sorry Kris, but that is my boy and I don't want anything happening to him.( I know a little too much info for ya!) Just wanted to add it because its sweet considering Cody's sperm donor has nothing to do with him. Ron's trying to get stuff done so he can go outside more. Right then he was remodeling the bathroom, now he's done so hopefully Cody will be able to go out.
K, done rambling, better get home so Ron don't think I ran off...LOL.

Susan - thanks for the return of the swim stuff!! You talked about your procrastinating ways, so I wasn't expecting them until...........maybe this time next year??!! Davontae was ECSTATIC about the Boy's Life magazine. He took it to bed with him.

FINALLY I will be able to try the relish that Ron (that was him, wasn't it?) made. Thanks for getting that to me also. It made it safe and sound.

LAURA girl count me as one THINKING and SENDING GOOD GOOD Positive thoughts your way. I am praying its nothing and holding you guys in my thoughts. PLEASE PLEASE girl post as soon as you can. HUGS and Blessings to you and Ethan. One thing I have found with all of Christopher's blood tests lately, with the Doc writing STAT on the script you really do get the results 1 2 3.

Hmmm SUSAN, one of mine and Kodi's favorites is peanut butter on toast with Miracle Whip OMG YUM YUM YUM
:-D I guess Mayo would work the same but we are Miracle Whip girls ;-) LOL Hmmm wonder if that would work with Gritts Hmmmm NOT :-P

Speaking of escapers I had the lock smith yet here again today. He was soooo soooo kind, after the guy heard bout Christopher's last adventure up on the tracks he walked my entire house pointing out what might be problems and such. Christopher's safety will ALWAYS come first but I have to share when the guy left I was sad for a little while looking at all the locks that are to keep one little character in, you know what I mean???? I said to Colin tonight YIKES when we do finally put this house on the market, we are gonna have to explain to each person that NOOOO these locks are not for fear of being robbed. They, without living the life would have noooo other idea why we have sooo many locks, Hmmmm

K, time to hit the hey, Happy Friday to you all ;-)

ROFL ROBIN~ Get this: My FAVORITE thing to eat when I was growing up was a peanut butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and mayonaise sandwich! It was delicious!! I still eat them....but have eliminated the mayo. I also won't touch a french fry unless there is plenty of MUSTARD and ketchup. And, my favorite way to eat waffles is with peanut butter and hot syrup! However....I will not under any circumstance eat GRITS!!

CATHERINE M. Giangreco, M.D. ... I go to Bradenton every year. We attend a pastors conference at Christian Retreat.
You might try some churches to take it on as a missions project or Sunday school project that would help support them.

Okay, just me FREAKING out here. Ethan developed petechiae all over his face, arms, and torso this afternoon. Yours truly flipped out and drove straight to the doctor to have my suspicions confirmed. He said that they were indeed petechiae, and ordered blood testing, which we can't do until TOMORROW! I think I might have a nervous breakdown before then. He did order that it be completed STAT, so we should know something by noon. This will be the longest 18 hours of my life. Somebody please tell me that I'm over reacting.

Catherine... I wish I knew of a place to help but I dont. I will however keep them in my prayers for a organization willing or able to help. Maybe asking the NDDS for suggestions might be a good idea?
I am thinking we must have a full moon coming or here. Adrienne sent me a email and said Russell the muscle got outside before they got up and she woke up to find him gone and the door open and had to do a "ROBIN" and run braless and in PJ's thru the streets looking for him. LOLOL Adrienne, it is such a special feeling to be running like that isnt it? She said a sweet older woman found him. These kids can make us crazy. I have tried EVERY THING to stop Chase. I think we are there and then bam, it happens again.Anyways..his behavior at home has been really good (for ME, not Dave) but school is a night mare. Thank God he has a angel for a teacher with patience of a saint, she says he shall not win, LOL and she laughs when she says it, to still be laughing after all of this, she has to be good!!!! =0) I am not going to go into details but lets just say it isnt pretty at school.
KRISTI... OMG, I am sooo thrilled Cody is riding a two wheeler wiht NO TRAINERS!!!!!! I am so impressed!!! So, tell me how you got him to do it??? Wow WTG Codester!!

Hi Carmen...
I had the exact same issue with Chase's speech teacher two years ago. I got it fixed pretty fast and have never had the problem again, of course I also dont have that speech therpist any more either. I called the special ed director (or supervisor depending on what they are called in your area) and told them what Chase's IFSP or IEP depending on the area said and that the ST was NOT showing up and I wanted it remedied immediately. I also said I understood they probably werent aware of the problem but it needed to be taken care of at once and thatr I expected more sessions to make up for the ones missed. I also ended up getting those too =0) I was kind but very firm ..I think the secret is to act like you know exactly what you are talking about cause it has always seemed to get me what Chase needed, although bak then I had no idea what was legal and what wasnt. I just feel it is better to go to the top then start elsewhere=0)
Good luck, let us know how you make out.
hugs, Robin

Hello, I am a Pediatrician and Mom of a special needs child in Bradenton, FL I was contacted by a group of parents of kids age 2-7 with Down's syndrome in Paraguay. My husband is from there and we visit every year. They are looking for contacts outside their very small poor country for support, financial and otherwise for a small project they started on their own. So far they have a preschool, integrated half and half with downs and other children. There is no available government help for this in Paraguay. I have emails and pictures from them describing their work so far, but they are really having trouble paying a teacher and therapists. Any ideas? Any parents out there speak/write spanish. I looked at the website for the Kennedy foundation, and that didn't look too hopeful. Anyone know of an international aid foundation that could help with this. Any suggestions welcome . God bless Catherine

Hey Jackie- congrats on the first day. I can't believe you even let him ride the bus- better than I did the first day. what will his schedule be? John is supposed to go 4 mornings a week but this week we had a 2 hour delay due to fog on Monday, which means am preschool is canceled, Tuesday he was sick, Wed he went to school and today another 2 hour delay due to fog. He wouldn't have gone anyhow today as he started in with the croup about midnight last night and I had to give him breathing treatments about every 2 hours- kept him open though so I'm hoping we can do the same tonight. He seems to feel okay today but is hoarse and a little croupy. Bummer. Tomorrow he has a check up with a doctor so if he is still sick maybe a little steroids or something. I have GOT to get some sleep!

Ok sniff sniff I survived I made it through the first day of school with Justin. Have to tell ya though it was rough when the bus got here :(, I kept my cool though until it pulled away. One thing though I remember the end of last school year they fitted him for the harness for the bus and said NO ONE gets out of the harness well guess who got out of the blasted harness, somehow he managed to get his arms up and slide right down somehow out of it grrrrrr I tried to tell them he would get out but they wouldn't listen, so the aide is sitting right smack next to him lol. Other than that he did AWESOME once he seen where he was he did great of course we didn't let him see us, and we watched from the hallway ok so I couldn't help myself, they said he just went on about his business and kept his glasses on the entire circle time hey it's a start lol... Ok have to go and check on him again nap time lol.

YES...I am thinking of everyone too...but noticed in the coverage of DC...that they referred to today as PATRIOT'S DAY....I think this would be an excellent way to rename today...rather than 9/11.....another day to express patriotism...fly flags...think of it just not as the tragedy it was...but as a coming together of the people of our huge nation in a big embrace.

Carmen~ Have you talked to the therapist about your feelings? What does the IEP or IFSP say about how often the therapist is supposed to come? If he/she is not doing what the educational plan says, you have reason to request another IEP or IFSP meeting (in writing). In that meeting, you can explain that the therapist is not providing the services properly. She has to do what was agreed upon. Try to be calm and polite, but firm. Good luck!!!!

Dear Steff,
Steff,
Yahoo! four successful trips to the market. No one should become frustrated with any behavior mod until they have tried it 15-20 times in a row, especially with the younger kids.
There must be something in the water this week. Mine hopped on the bus to ride home. He has never been on the middle school bus. Thank goodness for two-way radios. They kept him on until I could get back to the house. I must say it was great to know in my heart that he would have sat and waited for me to come home. Growing up is a good thing!
Loved the kareoke story!

HI!!!

Andrea. My Olivia usta run away from us. Thought it was a game. I started practicing with her for the street at about 2 years old. Now she won't run in the street. Our locks on our doors are up high. Hmmm I guess my Liv would wanna go thru the dog door too.. Wonder if anyone out there has a solution for that one.I do however tell Olivia to stand by my side when we are at the market for example...(MB taught me this one ;) thanks girl it's working)So when we are at the market for the last 3 weeks I have taken Liv in with me to get a few things. WELL If she leaves from my side(which she ADORES to run and grab in the market) then WE LEAVE PRONTO. We musta left the store 20 times in the last 3 weeks BUT we have had 4 straight in a row successful trips to the market where Olivia will only need to be reminded to stay by my side. She now KNOWS the consequences. I do however make our jaunts short. Not the whole list just a few items so she can practice staying by me.Perserverance for my Liv. fer sure. FRUSTRATING YES!!! But at least I know that she'll be better behaved in the market(there is no longer SWEAT dripping down my forehead as we leave) and she doesn't run away(I started this after she got away in the market for 20 minutes and they called a CODE ADAM and shut down the store<---only to find her hiding behind a door.)Keep on her Andrea that's a habit you may wanna lose quick and early.Lotsa practice get the teachers involved in a strategy to keep her from running away.

KRISTI!!!! YIKES that scared me. AND man LMAO to the pink bike... LOLOLOL...YCMU!!!

SUSAN glad Em's school is going so well...Glad to hear she is participating.

Well... HI The kids are off...YAY!!!.Funny thing is last night Jeff was on the freaking karoke machine with a cd I got Olivia for it.(she adores it) it's got all the songs kids sing and barney songs etc. Liv LOVES the thing. So before bed Jeff is singing with em. I hear him saying on the mic. I am coming to you from Kyle and Olivias room and (in that lounge singer voice(aka bill murray aka sat night live)and he is belting out the nursery rhymes and ain't it great to be crazy. I crack up go outside am still hearing em thinking OHHH HOW SWEET with a smile on my face. Come back 10 minutes later to hear Kyle DAD and Olivia BELTING OUT ON THE MIC..... You gotta fight for your right to PARTY!!!LMAO....Kinda took that sweetness away.HYSTERICAL that guy.LOVES those kids...He is on a pain patch(fentnyl) so I beleiev he is a bit more loose then normal lately cause he is not in soo much pain.hee hee....I'm glad cause the doc kept giving him pain meds that I thought weren't good for his liver so this is WAY better./

oh yea I learned a trick from Olivias speech teacher which has helped us already. This child is EASILY distracted. they hafta sit her next to a quiet not hyper little movement child or otherwise she watches them move all day... But this one trick is ...lets say someone comes in the room .OLIVIA loses ALL concentration cause she is seeing who is coming in etc. SO as most of us would be able to come back to what we are doing Liv loses her FOCUS and ya hafta start all over again. SO we tell her to LOOK QUICKLY.....Then COME BACK. This way she gets to look.(like we all wanna do) then if ya teel her to come back right after you say look quickly she DOES and she doesn't lose her concentration and you don't hafta start all over. Works like a charm thought I'd share. Well gotta git. C-ya...

So my child isn't the only one that wanders off!?!?! Livi's daycare sent a letter home a couple of weeks ago saying that during beach day she ran off toward the parking lot. She is getting older and too FAST for some of the teachers to catch her. She doesn't seem to understand the consequences or the danger yet. They recommended that we get an aide for her for the daycare. She recently moved up to the 3-5 year old room and there aren't as many adults per child as the toddler room that she has been in for the past 2 years.
Anyone have suggestions? Time-outs and "safety lectures" are just not doing the trick. I feel bad for her teacher because I think that when Olivia runs off or tries to escape the playground area she is separated from the others and this in turn takes the teacher away from the other children and seems to give attention to Livi.
We have issues at home too, not as many lately though. Olivia thinks that it is a game to run down the driveway and toward the street. Her Dad lost her one day a few months ago. I was in the shower, Dad was in charge, the dog door was not locked (our dog is 104 lbs). I came upstairs, Dad thought the Olivia was with me, I thought she was with him. We panicked, ran outside. Our neighbor behind us was walking through the yard holding Livi's hand. She was knocking on their front door! I think a few gray hairs sprouted out instantly over that one!

ANNETTE: What a scary ordeal.....I'm so glad Morgan is just anemic. Poor kid, having to go through all those tests. And poor Mom and Dad, having to be scared like that! WTG Ashley! Now, she'll be getting into stuff like crazy! Go girl go!
~
BETTY: Sounds like Christopher is doing great! He has grown up so fast it seems! Keep posting when you can. I miss seeing his pictures.
~
I talked to Kristi last night and she said Cody wandered off yesterday afternoon and got about 4 blocks away before he was found, and it scared them to death. A policeman brought him home. Seems he had his backpack and planned to go back to school! The little guy just can't get enough of school.
~
Last night was open house and the first PTO meeting at Emily and Jordan's school. The MOST exciting (and surprising) thing was that JORDAN'S teacher said he was doing FANTASTIC! Normally, I always hear comments about how he is too "busy", etc. Emily's home room teacher went on and on about her. She said that she had to admit on the first day of school she had been worried about how Emily would keep up, and how she (the teacher) would be able to help her learn everything she needed to in the class. But last night, she GUSHED about what an asset Emily has been to the class. She said she has watched this shy little girl get SO excited about learning and now raises her hand to answer questions every day. That was good news because Em is normally pretty quiet in class. She has a student teacher who seems to adore Emily and the teacher said she owes so much to that student teacher for making Emily LOVE that class. Em couldn't wait to show me her locker....the most exciting part about school, according to her!
~
CINDY: Get better fast! Sounds so painful! Glad to hear Kaylee is doing so well. I can't seem to get Emily interested in her bike at all. I think the neighborhood kids have a lot to do with it......all the kids in our neighborhood play basketball every afternoon in our driveway, so that's what Em does too. Maybe I should convince the neighborhood kids to ride bikes more often!! (there are a couple of them I'd love to get OUT of my driveway!!)
~
Better run. Have a great day Everyone!

Happy B-day to all the kiddos.
Havent been on too much lately I was having a problem with my bus at work and my poor Morgan 4yrs old non-ds was ill.. Morgan had a limp in 1 leg and then broke out with a BAD rash all over her face, and sleeping ALOT. In fact dh and I laughed about our trip to Ohio, how we never got soo much sleep till then.
Dr said could be menningitis or some type of child cancer or maybe an allergy to something. So we had to get blood work done, OMG it took 3 of us to hold her down she screamed kicked, bit it was the worst experience I ever had with her.. My NERVES!!!Anyway results came back tonight she is fine other than EXTREMELY anemic, so she is getting Iron tablets..
A good note... Ashley is crawling steadily now up on ALL fours YEAH!! And she is going from belly to sitting up by herself..
I also got my same bus back from last yr. Ive had that bus since it was brand new with 500 miles on it, I put the 99,000.00+ miles on this bus..My work is jerking me because i didnt take the same route I always get which is long and hard, so basicly I was being punished I guess.
Also havent seen dh hardly at all since we got back from Ohio, he is working sooo much. He says to make up for the Holiday pay and couple days off from our trip.
Sorry to VENT just had a bad couple of days.
Anybody in New Jersey our Buddy walk is Oct.5 and this friday B.U.D.S is having an Ice Cream Social.

HI!!!!!!

Kyle read all the birthday wishes and told me to tell you all THANKS!!!!

Katie Happy Birthday to you too. AND KAYLEE happy birthday to you too.

My girl is in school today. Amazing how quick she recovers. She had the funkiest nose and SHAZAM she looks and feels like a champ(so far so good)today. ALSO LMAO Kyle got this toy that is an automatic thumb wrestling machine. WELL Kyle showed everyone how it works and man the laughter. It is a VERY PHALLIC looking thing and man oh man my family and friends were peeing in their pants trying not to let Kyle see when he showed em the toy...HYSTERICAL...

I gotta tell ya Olivias sdc teacher is awesome. I LOVE the homework she gives the kids on a daily basis.Whats really cool about one sheet they have every day is that...She'll ask the kids a ? like What is your job in this classroom. Then she'll write the kids responses next to their name. For example... Olivia: MY JOB IS TEACHERS HELPER. Then so on for the other kids. WELL what is so cool bout it is that I read the paper to Liv .It always starts out with today is wed. yesterday was tues tomorrow is thurs(example) then in the end after reading all the kids responses to the ? She 'll have like a main work. For that one about the job they have she'll write in the end. Circle the word my in the paper. Every kids response starts out with MY JOB IS.... So they do that then she writes _y. And they have to fill in the M. Then they count the circled words and write their name. Olivia ALWAYS has me read this paper to her at least 10 times. She likes the fact that it is all her friends and her responses.Yesterday we did one homework while she was at home and by the end of me reading it 15 times to her and pointing to the words this child had the word I HAVE down while she was pointing to it. I wrote it on paper this morn and she remembered what the 2 words were. She LOVES the fact that it is something she did that day. They must print em out toward the end of the day. reinforces what they did and talked about plus learning a new word etc.I am glad cause I like to help her with her memory every day. This is a perfect way.Well must go in a minute.

Jeff is going to have a procedure in a week which we are kinda nervous about .I am gonna also talk to the doc who is once again banding his varices thurs for another endoscopy.See they want Jeff to get this filter called a vena cava so that the embolisms will not go into his lungs. My problem with the whole thing is he CAN'T take blood thinners. What the heck will happen? He has so many emb.'s in his lungs already what if the clots get stuck on the filter cause he can't take blood thinners. Then what he gets NO BLOOD SUPPLY?? Boy I am on this one cause although it sounds like a choice and this particular filter is meant for those who can't take blood thinners it also says that there is a BIG possibility of it getting clogged.(from the blood clots and Jeff gets lots)In the last year and what they can see now in his rt lung he will have had a total of 10 clots in his lungs this year. SO most folks are not like Jeff and get so many. I am gonna check out the rates and stuff now but I am still a bit unsure of that one/ I must get to reading so that I can go in thurs with my dh and ask away. Anyone know anything about this filter process successes? drawbacks? or anything bout it would be appreciated.Where does the day go once the kids are in school???LOL Gotta jet BYE

Susan-we did get stronger steel training wheels and Kaylee is riding her bike more often with the neighbors. She still mostly prefers her 4 wheeler-and actually is very careful (when there's more then 10 kids riding bikes it seems dangerous to me because she could ride into a bike and knock someone over.) So far she's been really good with it.

Hi guys..been crazy around here.

Kaylee turned 10 this weekend. Had a buncha girls over for her b-day after school. A make up party--and did they ever have fun. We bought the make up vanity thing they're selling at Costco right now and they played with it (after getting out of the pool!) for a good hour or more. We bought her a mini trampoline which she just loved. She was very polite and thanked everyone. We didn't invite the whole neighborhood because it would've just been too many kids--but alas--the door bell kept ringing all weekend with neighbor kids bringing her gifts. What a blessing to have a small neighborhood (30 homes) and have Kaylee be so loved and accepted by all the neighbors. I prayed for that, but am still shocked when it actually happens.

School started last week. Kaylee had a bad first day and it's improved daily since then. I've been on my death bed with a breast infection that feels like it's going to kill me --- and now a bad cough. Thank God the kids have been good. Kaylee's been doing her reading right after school so that she can go outside and play with the neighbors. She set the table last night and included a cough drop at my place setting. She cracks me up. She requested an alarm clock for her b-day and my SIL got her one of the round ones (not digital) that actually rings REALLY LOUD. Kaylee loves it--and wakes right up and gets out of bed (before it would take me forever to get her out of bed).

gotta run and lay down. feel like I'm dying here
