Uno Mas! Photo Gallery

A Note from Michelle: The photo album has always been one the most popular feature of the Uno Mas web site, and it really broke my heart to have to shut it down last year. I think new parents are anxious to see pictures of other children with Down Syndrome. By adding photos of our kids having fun and doing the things that any kid does growing up, we can help new parents see that their child will laugh, play, swim, and bring all the joy they had dreamed of. I'm delighted to announce that the photo gallery is back. In fact, it's even new and improved! For security purposes, guests can only see tiny thumbnails. In order to view any full size photos you have to register as a member. It's easy and quick to register. Just make up a username and password, enter an email address and click submit. Then check your email for an activation link. Just click on the link and you are all signed up! Members can upload photos and they will be viewable immediately. (I can change this, if trouble arises, but for now I'm going to be an optimist). Registered members can also add comments to the photos that others have posted. You can also vote for your favorite pictures, which relieves me from having to pick a "coverchild" each month. It is more difficult to copy pictures from this album, but still nothing is guaranteed failsafe. So please upload pictures with that in mind. Michelle Mc |
Here's how to upload them from your computer to our Photo Gallery:
Go to this page: Wild Thing Photo Album and follow the instructions below...To add your pictures:
Click on THIS MONTH's Album (only the current month will have this link)
- Click on "Upload"
- Click "Browse" and search for the picture on your hardrive.
Then click on the button to "Upload New Photos" button at the bottom of the screen.
That's it!
Unfortunately, I can't coach you through how to get a digital picture from your camera to your computer. You'll have to ask a computer-savy friend, co-worker, or in-law for that sort of help. If you want to take a look, click here for some basic steps for scanning a photo and saving it to upload.
But honestly, once you get the picture on your computer, it's easy!
So anyway:

Ok, down to the nitty gritty Scanner directions. This is how my scanner works. Maybe your program and scanner is similiar and these steps will help you a little bit.:
If you have a scanner, or know someone with a scanner, you can scan your pictures and save them in either .jpg (jpeg) or .gif format. This is important; web browsers only recognize photos in one of these two formats.
- How to Scan a Photo.
- Open your Scanner Software. Mine is called "Photo Magic." Once the program is open, go to File at the very top left of your screen and use pull-down menu to click Acquire This will open a new window and may turn on your scanner.
- Put your picture in the scanner and click PreScan. This will fire up your scanner, and it will prescan your photo. You should see a copy of your picture on the screen
- Now you need to move the white dotted lines around to choose exactly what part of the picture you really want to save. Whatever is within the white dotted box, is the part of the picture that will be scanned.
- My instructions say to let the scanner warm up for best results. I wait two or three minutes before clicking scan.
- Now, click Scan, and your scanner will go into action again. A new window should open with your picture on the screen.
- Now go back to the File Menu at the top left of your screen, and pull down to Save. This will open a save window.
- There should be a pull down menu that allows you to choose the format that you wish to save the picture in.
For photos, I suggest saving the file as jpeg or jpg.
You may also have a compression choice. If you do, try using 40% compression to make the file quicker to email.
Or if you are resizing it, try using bilinear resampleing. Try to keep the picture below 640 x 480 pixels. That's the basic size of a small computer screen.
- Name the picture and, before you click save, BE SURE to pay attention to where the file is about to be saved. You can browse around and pick a folder on your desktop such as "My Folder. or My Pictures" This way, you will know where to find the file when you go to "BROWSE" and need to find the exact "upload photo."
- Then just follow the instructions above to get to this month's gallery, and click on "Upload my photo" ... Then, (since you've paid attention to what you named your picture and where you actually saved it on your hard drive) you won't have any problem browsing to that saved file and uploading it to Uno Mas!
That's the best I can do. I hope it is a little bit helpful.
I'm looking forward to seeing your cute kid's pictures!
