Our son, Caleb, is 7 yrs old with Ds. The other day, my husband wasn't feeling well and was rather quiet for quite awhile. When it was dinner time and I asked my husband a question, he answered with one word. Caleb exclaimed, "Mommy, he talks!!"

It's been a while since I posted on here about my Keala. She just graduated from Headstart last Friday, and went to the big school to meet her teacher and see her new classroom (and got to ride a bus). As she was seated by her cousin Cole, who keeps a close eye on her, she would hug him, then turn to the kids behind her and pat them on the chest or leg. She watched them get their certificates, and patiently waited her turn. As soon as she heard her name, she jumped right up and got her certificate. Then when she was sitting back down, she would turn to the other kids and tell them to "shh".

i am amazed to find this fresh site i try not to look at my son liam ( 18 year old down syndroome ) condition as a bad thing its his life and we think its a blessing to be so unique.
My story dates back to when liam was about 14. Me and his mother Alice had taken him out to the supermarket to buy groceries and liam wanted to sit in the trolly. we told him he was too big to sit down in the trolly, many times.
eventually we got on with our shopping. about fifteen minutes lateri left Liam with the trolly as i went to the vetgtable section. to my surprise when i returned there he was in the trolly sitting on a tray of, now broken eggs drinking the chocolate milk. wen he saw me he just began to laugh and i coudnt help but laugh with him.

I have not posted in awhile but our son Matthew 8 does not speak but is really making progress within the last few months. We were at my daughter's basketball bgame and he likes the blowpops at the concession stand. My wife got him and as he sat there and asked him to say lolipop he said "oipop" and wife gave it to him and they return to the bleachers to watch the game. My wife told him Matt that lolipop looks good can I have some? He looked at her and hekd on tight to the lolipop and shoved it in her mouth and then pulled it back, My said thank you matt He lookked at her and let her have some more, she thank you Matt, the third time he did this when he pulled it back he looked at her and grabbed her hand and motioned for her to stand up. he walked her down the bleachers and walked her back to the conncession stand. She said oh I see you want me get my own. She bought another blowpop and once she had it he grabbed her hand and started walking back to their seats and all was good after that

My son Anthony is 2 years old. Like everybody else there are numberous accounts of my little monkey be way to funny..The one thing that comes to mind is something he did last night , he learned how to work a light switch, his daddy was sleeping for about an hour then all of a sudden i hear him laughing. Anthony was in the bedroom flipping the light switch on and off for like ten minutes before he got his daddy's attention...it may not seem like much, but it made his day, to make us laugh.. I love my son so much...

Abby may just be turning one, but when the camera comes out, she has a huge smile for the photographer. She is a real shutter bug, and I love that because I get e-mail with photos all the time.

My little cousin Travis(DN)is so hilarious that I don't know where to begin. Sunday at church the preacher was preaching and he ask if any don't mind praising God and he got out of his seat went to the front, grabbed a microphone and started singing a song, and the crazy part about it is that everyone else joined in to help

Although I'm only 14 and have just found out about this site thorugh searching on the internet, it brings smiles to my face and laughter inside. I had to leave a story on here to share my moments with a family member with ds.
My cousin with ds is 5, he's such a doll. I love him to death. As his parents went out for a night I'd babysit him and his other sibling. He constantly wants to watching wiggles or barney or some movie of his that he loved, and when he does you have to sit with him. He's so cute the way he responds to questions and it brings the saddest feeling in my heart when he cries when he misses his mummie or dad. When he was born I have younger and did not understand his condition since I was only 9. After a while I figured it out on my own and accepted the fact that he is going to be like this for the rest of his life and thought of it most as a miracle later on.
I always remember the little cute things he does. It's always that little things that count. He use to sit and watch tv and roll around all over the floor, and when I'd do funny things to make him laugh I'd want to do it over and over because when he smiled and laughed it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. It was like the face of an angel.
Another thing he'd do was pronounce my name wrong or other names of things wrong and I couldn't help but laugh. He's such a cutie. There are sometimes I wish that my parents had had a ds child because somehow it makes your life so much better. It is the best blessing of them all. I loved when he's bring me books and books and I'd read a page and then he'd want me to read another book. I love his adorable personality and his thoughfulness. He always greets his friends and family with hugs and kisses when they come over. I remember once while giving him a bath he's splash around and squirt me with water and laugh and it was so funny. I like talking to him on the phone and asking him about his day and I love how he gets confused and ends the sentaces with yeah! or Oh.. lol. I love him to bits and could talk on and on about this little gift, but I'd thought I'd show my dedication and love to this child because he is one of the gifts in my life I have that light up my life and make it so much of a blessing.
All the stories on here give me a loving feeling and a bit of understanding of these beautiful children.
Much love to all
Hannah.

I have a friend named Patt-Patt! He is the cutest thing ever! He is a country music fan to the fullest! When he wakes up in the morning he is listening to music, and when he goes to bed he is listening to music! When you catch him in a great mood, he will even sing a country song to you! You can not understand one word he says, it basically looks like he is mouth singing the song! He points and smiles and waives just like a real country singer! You can't help but laugh!!!! He's the best! :)

In a resturant our daughter was looking at a little girl with Down Syndrome, she looked at me and said "That girl is funny." I said "Why?" Emily said, "Her face, look at her." I replied "She is beautiful." Then turned to my husband and said "And you thought people would make fun of our child." (with Down Sydrome) Funny how we don't see our selves.

I sure like to come here when I fell I've had a bad day. I could laugh all night.
Here's 2 about Adam.
At his sister's first communion when everything got quite and the priest started to bless the kids getting their communion, Adam just started singing the "I love You" song from Barney as loud as he could. Everyone started to laugh and the priest said" What an appropriate song Adam" LOL.
Again at church one Sunday when the congregation got up to sing (They always post the words of the songs on the front wall) Adam knowing his alphabet started to say the letters that he would recognize. Like "Wow A, Wow and so on)LOL. He was getting everyone mixed up with the words. After the song was done he started to clap his hands so did a few others, then he said "Good job guys). I gues he learns from us as we always say good job guys when heim and his sister do nice things. Everyone was laughing. I think everyone looks forward to Adam making their Sunday mass a little less boring. LOL.

Hello everyone,
I have 2 chilren with ds. Nafiq 4, and Jannah 10 months, and they are a handful. NAfiq is commical. He loves to dance. Most of the times, when we are out, if we walk into a room of people he automatically concludes that he has an audience so he gets his dance on. and there needs to be no music. lol. He gets to clapping his hands and shaking his little butt. ANd he has a nerve to have rhythm! lol. ANd my daughter Jannah is just too much. SHe is fearless and full of energy. She'll dive off the couch to get something she wants. Especially paper. Once she zeroes in and sees the papaer, she doesn't stop until she gets it. Even if you pick her up. She turns and squirms for whatever she wants. My childre are hilarious. I love them to death!

Yesterday I could hear singing coming from the bedroom "bare bottom!!, bare bottom!!
I didn't think too much of it and then I
heard it again .... this time from the lounge "bare bottom!! bare bottom!!".
I went into the lounge and sure enough there was Jordan ( and also has Down syndrome)
with a little blue teddy teddy bear which was sitting on top of a little bare bottom (Jordan's) with Jordan singing loudly!
I never did quite think of the English language in that same context "bear bottom" (bear on my bottom)... but it does make sense!
Kim and the ever eventful Jordan (aged six)

My son Kenyon is now 20 years old, when he was about 5 years old we were living out in so utah. My husband had just finished changing the oil in our car and placed the dirty oil by his shop. We had been out front when we suddenly had a cloud burst and the rain just poured down. We went inside and since it was early evening forgot about the oil outside. I put the boys to bed and evenually went to bed our selves. Well the next morning we got up and as I was getting breakfast ready I looked up to see kenyon walking through the sliding glass door with this black gook all over him from head to toe. ha ha I can laugh now. He saw the pan and stood inside the oily mess and poured the oil over his head with his sand bucket. I never thought I would get his white blond hair back again. It was green for weeks. lol.

My 17 year old son David was home from school as they had a half day. I left him with some reading that he needed to do before I got home from work. When I got home I asked to see his work and he told me that he didn't have a chance to get to it as he was busy watching television. I told him there would be consequences for that choice and said we would talk about it later. After dinner David asked me if I had checked my appointment book to see what time his orthodontist appointment was the next day. When I replied 'No' he informed me there would be consequences for failing to do so!

I was very surprised at my daughter told me she was adopting a downs child. But the surprise was on me. At first I found myself underestmating him. But in 3.5 years I find that he alot smarter that alot of regular kids. Especially when I see that he "GETS" what I'm teaching him. I taught him how to dog paddle in my pool in about a half hour this fourth of July weekend. He really got into it. He kept wanting to practice. He would jump from the edge of the pool then turn around and swim like BELLE (my black lab) to the edge and do it over and over. I told him that abuela was tired and he just said. Lela come here.... Sit. So we sat for about two minutes and he decided that I was rested and started jumping in again. Ouch.

Quite a few years ago, Daniel and I were driving home and it was very late...Perhaps 1 a.m.... I had a lot of trouble staying awake as I drove and it got so bad, I began slapping myself in the face to wake up.... Daniel said "What are you doing Dad?" and I said, "I'm falling asleep and I'm afraid we will have an accident, so I'm slapping myself to wake up"...Daniel said "OH, OK" and then after about 10 to 15 seconds, he hauled off and slapped me good right on my cheek...
At which time, I laughed and laughed all the way home.
No problem dozing off after that....

Following my retirement from the Air Force, I began an airport shuttle business. Often times, Daniel would ride with me and help by greeting the customers and he also helped me carry the luggage. One day, I told him we were going to pick up people from Russia.
When they boarded the van, Daniel didn't say a word...no greeting...just silence. Then, when we were half way to the airport, Daniel turned around, looked them Russians squarley in the eye and loudly and boldly said "I know all about you Russians and Lee Harvey Oswald". I died with embarrassment and was speechless after that... There was no way I could smooth that over....

My son just called me while ago and said mom do you want Matthew for about a month. I laugh and said no and then I said what did he do?..Then he ask if I had seen the comercial for stanley steemer where the little boy takes and jumps on a bottle of chocolate syrup and it goes all over the carpet..well guess what thats what Matthew did to there new carpet in there hall way and his sisters room and the cat...I thought oh no... But I couldn't help for laughing and said that happens when you have little ones... Matthew is 3and 1/2 years old and does not have DS...It seem that Christopher Kelly with DS and Matthew without DS are both getting into a lot of trouble these days ...They are a handfull. Christoper Kelly is five months older than Matthew but they are running a race on seeing how far they can push there mommys and daddys...and mama Betty. But they are the apples of my eye..And I thank God for the both of them.... ma ma Betty

My name is Jess and I am 14 yrs. old. My dad and step-mom just had Jacob 4 weeks ago, and guess what....he has downs. Well needless to say the family was very upset, as was I, but after having this little guy around for even just a couple weeks we've forgotten about his condition.
Well to the point....I've gotta tell you, my little man LOVES music, just like his sis. Before he was even born I had a band concert which my step-mom, Desiree, and my dad attended. The performance went pretty good for me, (I play the flute,) but apparently even better for Jakey. After it was finished Desiree told me how much she enjoyed the evening and that Jacob did, too! Well I was excited at this, but confused. She then explained to me that as soon as our band started playing Jake started kicking and moving around. Apparently he was dancing. ;) I know downs kids are slower, but my little bro is a fighter and I know if he wants to and really works at it that he can be in band some day, and I'm gonna help him there.
I also wanted to say...thanks to everyone who put this site together, it really lifted my spirits! *!*Also if anyone out there knows of recommended reading, or support groups FOR SIBLINGS, PLEASE contact me!!!! ladyluck2189@hotmail.com*!* Thank you so much!
